    Something which wasn't explained in the video: force outs can only be made in a force situation, in other words, when you're forced to run to the next base. The batter is always forced to run to the next base when he hits the ball in fair territory. If you're standing on a base, and all of the bases behind you are occupied, you're also forced to run to the next base. Only when you're forced to run to the next base can the defense tag the base you're running to get the force out. If you're not forced to run, they cannot record a force out. They have to tag you while you're off the base.

      Thanks a lot for this,man.. I didn't find a detailed explanation of this before.And I've got one more query. Consider this situation- A runner is at the 1st base,and the pitcher pitches 4 balls.And the batter walks to the 1st base, so what happens to the preceding runner at base 1??

    I don't know if this is common elsewhere, but in norway we have a game called what translates to strikeball, which is simmilar to baseball, but with key differences.
    The pitcher is not on a pitchers mound, but stands in the batrers box oposite the batter, and throws the ball straight up for the batter to hit. Missing the ball, or failing to swing are identical, and only if the ball is thrown poorly is it not a strike, but there is no such thing as 'walking'.
    Upon a hit, the batter needs to then run to a line oposite the batting position, and then to the back of the lineup (the field is shaped like a square) in order to score a point.
    There are some ways to be outed. You can be taged by being hit or the pitcher can bounce the ball in the batters box while you are between the two lines. The teams swap positions when a person on the defensive team catches a ball in one hand once, or they collectively catch the ball with two hands twice (this only applies to flying balls obvs). Additionally, if at any point there are no batters who aren't out, or on the away side of the field, that also causes a swap, but a point can be spent to call back an outed player into the batting lineup.
    It's a schoolyard version with weird rules, and I'm sure several of these were area specific.
    The game is won when time is up,

    At 5:18, should say that a ball hit to the outfield which is NOT a fly ball rarely results in batter out at 1st.
    At about 6:04 you left out "foul" when referring to but on 3rd strike.

    So why do they sometimes have to "tag out" someone instead of force out them at 3rd base? Is it the same for 2nd? What ruling covers this?

    • @TheOnDeckCircle
      @TheOnDeckCircle  4 роки тому +3

      You have a force at second if there is a runner on first base. And if there are runners on first and second base, there would be a force at third base. And if the bases are loaded there would be a force out at home plate.
      If a runner is on second base and nobody is on first base though, there would not be a force at third base because he doesn't have to run, he can stay on third if he wants to because there's no runner behind him to 'force' him forward to the next base.

    • @Anna-kj3np
      @Anna-kj3np 2 роки тому

      Hi! So force outs are only for if you’re forced to the base. This is when the batter is running to first, since they have to go there, or when all the bases behind the runner are occupied, because now he has to go to the next one. That’s the only time you can force out because it’s implied the out will be made, otherwise it has to truly happen with a tag.

    Is it compulsory for the batter to run, though? If they're sure they're going to get out, can they just avoid running?

    • @TheOnDeckCircle
      @TheOnDeckCircle  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, and many will either not run or run slowly. It's sometimes criticized though because especially on ground outs, there is always the possibility of a bad throw or missed catch.

      If a fly ball is caught for the third out, then the inning is over. It doesn't matter where the runners have run (or not run) to.

    • @snake1625b

      I've noticed that too. The base player can just step on the base to get them out but instead hell opt to do the harder decision of chasing around the plaster to tag him

    • @philmccracken179

      On “force outs” the defense just has to touch the base. If it’s not a “force out” you have to tag him with the ball

    What if the hitter gets a fly out, does the player who ran from first to second have to run back to first?

    • @TheOnDeckCircle
      @TheOnDeckCircle  3 роки тому

      Yes, if the defense can catch the fly ball, then touch first base with it before the runner can get back to first he would also be out. Usually when there's a fly ball that looks like it'll be caught the runners won't run to the next base.

    How do base umpire checks if milliseconds diffrence between batter and fielder touching the base ...how does umpire declare if batter is safe or not?

    • @willoughbykrenzteinburg
      @willoughbykrenzteinburg 4 роки тому +3

      It's actually pretty rare that it is literally milliseconds between the two things, and actually even more rare that you would be looking for two players touching a base. The most common "bang-bang" plays in baseball by far are the plays at first and in those cases, umpires are not looking to see when the ball is caught. They are simply listening to when the ball hits the glove and comparing that sound to the visual of the batter/runner touching first base. At the Major League level in today's game, there is also video replay for plays like this that coaches can use if they disagree with a call.

    When is a player forced to run?. Like if a batter hits it into the ground region should he absolutely run

    • @TheOnDeckCircle
      @TheOnDeckCircle  3 роки тому +2

      A player is forced to run if there is also a runner on all the bases before him. So a runner on first base is always forced to run. A runner on second base is forced to run if there is a runner on first also, but not forced to run if there is not a runner on first base. A runner on third is only forced to run if there is both a runner on first and second base too.
      And yes, that would only apply to balls that are hit, that touch the ground before being caught (a ground ball). If a ball is hit into the air and caught before it touches the ground, the runners on their bases should stay there or they can be doubled off.
