4:05 I have a Big Tuna with a trolling motor and when I’m on Lake Toho with it I wish the Florida waters were not as grassy. Lake Toho = me fighting the hydrilla on the prop
I Know what you mean. That's part of the reason why I go to Lake Kissimmee all the time. No hydrilla in the areas Im fishing. Just pads, Kissimmee grass and reeds. Haven't been to East Lake Toho in a while but that should be clear too?
@@ChrisMitchellFishing I have launched out of Granada Boat Ramp a few times. I think that is just Lake Toho but I’m not sure. If you ever go out of Granada Boat Ramp on a Saturday or Sunday morning and wouldn’t mind me being there asking a few questions let me know. There is a guy at my local lake that teaches me how to fish that. Carolina rig, drop shot, neko rig but I can’t figure out how to fish there at Granada. I need someone like you to spread your wisdom.
Thank you...I have been learning all I can before purchasing my first kayak...I've never even kayaked before but I'm an angler and I really want the freedom a kayak would give me...im 52 so the power drive will allow me to enjoy more of my time on the water. Thanks for ur video and opinion...Im getting a old town...now to just save the money. Lol
It’s not built for saltwater but if you rinse the motor well and keep it clean it should last. I know a guy in Texas that use’s it in salt and he seems fine with it. His name on UA-cam is mldr fishing.
I'm on the other way around mate, I switch from old town auto pilot 120 to hobie pa12 360. the hobie 360 is the perfect kayak fit for myself. best exercise and recreation. good to know u r happy with ur autopilot, but auto pilot didnt wotk for me at its best. cheers.
Hey Bro, beautiful kayak. More like a little vessel fishing machine. I was so close to repurchasing that boat. This was my 1st season off the bank. I set a budget, with Fishing add-on's, accessories, etc I'd want. I purchased a Hoodoo Tempest 120 Hybrid. They make there own 46 lb thrust trolling motor, that drops in where my PDL sits. So me at 5ft 7" 151 lbs. My kayak 12ftx34" wide, toe control drop down rudder system, anchor trolleys, and the J2 BIXPY, Vibe gravity rudder on the way. I built my vessel for my budget, and because I have a heart condition. I'll use the bixpy to hop around, and my troller on light speeds, to troll, never both together. And paddle around my spots. Trolling motor has 5 forward, and 3 reverse. Had all summer getting used to her. There's no better serenity and water therapy, in your vessel you built. Be safe..🤟🙏🙏🎣
One thing I don’t like about my old town I can’t network my kayak 😐 $4k and no networking?? I still like tho hopefully navpro will come up with something soon
Yeah that was one strange thing about that kayak. I assume they will have that feature in the new model whenever they do make a new one. I’m sure navpro will come up with something. Other than that, it is a great kayak and does serve its purpose for the most part.
@@ChrisMitchellFishing I’ve already gotten in contact with navpro to be honest the guy that returned my call was the co founder him and I had a great conversation right now they won’t be doing anything they don’t have the kayak as of now they are working on new model right now he said they will be looking into it end of this year to next year he has been emailing me asking questions about the old town so hopefully I’ll being testing the product soon the problem is minnkota made it super compact and no connection to a foot pedal but the ipilot is still on the head so that’s one thing good
I hope the next generation of electric drive kayaks will take the weak points of the Old Town and address them. There's still a lot of room for improvements with them. Btw...you mentioned Tennessee lakes. You'll still have to contend with hydrilla and milfoil on the Tn River lakes. Especially if you fish Chickamauga and Guntersville. They both are great fisheries but have heavy boat traffic from bass boats to yachts...I wouldn't advise fishing from anything smaller than an 18 foot vessel on them just from safety reasons. A 12' kayak would be no match for the wake from a 60' yacht or cabin cruiser and those frequent the Tn River systems. I often have to get down off the casting deck and get in the floor of the boat to keep from getting tossed out of it from some of the wakes.
There's defiantly room for improvement. Cant wait to see what they come up with next! I hear you on boat traffic. I see other kayakers fishing those lakes and looks like a blast. they may be on a part of the lake where boat traffic is light. Not too sure though. Thanks for the insight though Ill have to do more research.
I feel like the Old Town doesn’t tip nearly has much as the Hobie. My first impression of the old town when I got into it, felt like I was on a floating dock. it was that stable.
Nice setup. I have a titan 12 with a 50lbs Kota on it. It’s great for lakes. But anywhere near underwater vegetation sucks. I primarily fish the California delta. But I’m getting sick and tired of getting gunked up. Happy trails bud. Enjoy .
Thanks man! I know what you mean. Theres a few lakes around here that have a ton of hydrilla which I get caught up in a lot. Frustrating but worth it in the end. I normally just go paddling when theres that much though.
I’m using 4”pvc right now. Just a 10’ piece cut in half the bolted to the brackets the 2x4 came off of. It’s not the best launching because the bow hangs up. So you have to pick up the bow and push. However the pvc holds the kayak better in my opinion.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up using bunk boards and added side guide bunk boards. Back in and use the remote to drive the kayak off and on the trailer.
Great video Chris. I got the 106MK. I also have bad knees. Right knee replacement and left is in 2 weeks. You'll be happier with the AP120. I might update eventually but the 106 works for me
Great video, Please keep us posted on your thoughts on the auto pilot 120, because I am thinking of doing the same thing replacing a Jackson big rig with the 120
Thank you, Will do! As of right now I'm loving it. I'll have a video up either tomorrow or Tuesday and you'll get to see how easy it is to fish out of going against the wind. It was a breeze!
Thank you! I'll make a video over the weekend on how I did my trailer. If you need more info now, take a look on Facebook in the Old Town Sportsman Group. They have all kinds of info dealing with trailers for the auto pilot. For right now I'm using two 5' pvc pipes 4'' diameter on a single jet ski trailer. In my video I can be more specific. Hope that helps some.
Chris Mitchell Fishing from what I understand it’s something you add to the head of the trolling motor and then you have to link it to the appropriate Humminbird fish finder. It’s the same technology used in the boat world. It would allow you to preset a course to your fishing spot while you pre-rig or do other tasks on the way. Or you could run down a shoreline that is not a straight line. It’s not part of the standard offer. But I’m certain it’s possible. The Nucanoe/Motorguide setup is similar. But it’s and additional $450 plus the Lowrance unit.
longest I've been out so far is 9 hours and I still had 3/4 + battery life. Now that's only if I don't go full speed everywhere I go. Today was a 9 hour trip and I went just over 5 miles. Only did 4 long runs that took about 30 min - 1 hour to get to a spot then fished a big stretch going on slow speed. I don't go past 6 on the remote for the runs and I'll do 1-1.5 sometimes 2 when I'm fishing a stretch covering water. Hope all that made sense and gave you an idea how long the battery will last. Also I'm using a lead acid battery for right now till I can get a lithium.
Chris Mitchell Fishing okay thanks. I’m still debating between those two kayaks. It’s so hard to pick. The spot lock is really what interest me about the autopilot especially when I fish in the marsh and with current moving it would come in so handy but the only problem I will have with the autopilot would be that it’s a motor kayak so I will need to do all the paperwork for it.
I honestly think that will have to be a personal preference thing. I don't feel a difference at all but thats just me personally. However the Proangler seat does have more adjustments to it so you can adjust to your liking. The oldtown only has adjustment for the back. I fish 99% standing up and only sit when moving spot to spot. So its a not a big deal for me.
I've actually ran out of battery once and had to paddle back to the ramp against the wind. I was probably a mile or so away and it really wasn't that bad!
I got it at bass pro. Here's the link for it! www.basspro.com/shop/en/nite-ize-hitch-phone-anchor-and-tether The black square goes between the phone and phone case and a little ring sticks out where the charger hole is.
Thanks for doing a video that's nice short and sweet! Everyone else is doing long videos because I guess they like to hear themselves talk.
Thanks 😊
Glad you liked it!

You're wasting time and money on a kayak. Just get an aluminum jon boat. Throw aboard a 40HP outboard and a trolling motor, and you're good to go.
If your battery dies or your motor breaks you are totally screwed with that kayak because you are not paddling it nowhere !
