This is my final SML video (unless you count more Gmod videos). It's been nearly seven years since I started reviewing SML's content. Thank you all for watching and enjoying my videos! I plan on making more content of course, so I hope everyone will stick around for that. As always, thank you all for watching, and take care.

I don’t know why but I feel like this video is gonna blow up with the old Super Mario Logan fans as a sendoff and an awakening for all the classic SML fans to smile and be happy that they got to experience super Mario Logan when he was good. I think the old SML community really needed this video to smile and thank Logan for giving us a childhood and then move on.

Sml is the youtube equivalent of Fairly Oddparents, what was once an iconic series. devolved into adding new characters, and pushing older ones to the side. until everything collapsed
Note Logan Thirtyactre (SML) has the same personality like Butch Hartman (The creator of Fairly Odd Parents) because they scammed people. SML is nowadays a worse, watered down and Cheap version of Polandball (Countryballs) comics in a video format. Countryballs have filler but the Comics are funny and smart because of the charm and satirical humor because of them poking fun of the world such as politics and history. Take out The good parts about Countryballs and keep the bad parts and double them with 1000 and voila you got sml . SML is just bad
Ever heard of the Trope Franchise Original Sin?
A Franchise Original Sin is a flaw that in earlier, good installments was kept under control to the point of not really being a flaw, but goes out of hand and becomes apparent in later installments.
Expect to hear a lot of statements like "It was all right when it only happened occasionally, but..." if this trope is brought up in conversation. Sometimes, these elements might have actually been embraced initially, only for fan opinion to turn against them once they became problematic to the work at large. Ironically, the Fan Dumb might use this to defend Seasonal Rot, invoking false equivalency with statements like "Well these elements were used back in earlier installments, and you weren't complaining about it then!"
In Fairly Oddparents's case, sure Cosmo got dumber in Seasons 2 and 3, and he got more flanderized in Seasons 4 and 5 (and other characters got flanderized in 4 and 5), but he/they/the show was/were still funny so people didn't mind as much. But later on?
In SML's case, sure Junior had the same problems as Jeffy, but he was written better and funnier so people also didn't mind as much. But Jeffy is in some ways a more corporate attempt to copy what Junior did/make lightning strike twice.
They should've ended fairly odd parents at channel chasers
Now that I think about it sml is like any good cartoon in the 2000's. The first seasons are okay but jot amazing. After either the first or first few seasons it's amazing and hits its peak. But then it slowly goes down until its just a flaming pile of garbage

I believe the message to this whole thing is to not pressure content creators giving into their fanbases' random demands, because it's impossible to please everyone. What ultimately matters is the UA-camr and the viewers must maintain a healthy relationship with each other, whether that includes everyone that has worked/watched the videos or not. Both groups are humans, after all. Logan's downfall has taught me something: Treat the people behind the screen the way you would in real life and help them when in need or cut your connections if relations get toxic. This scenario can apply to any internet drama both in the past and what's going on right now.
Dabhdude, I had one hell of a time. And you're right about moving on, instead of sulking about SML's decline we should focus more on the people making content we enjoy, watching over them to make sure they don't end up in similar situations and whatnot. Sorry to say this, I'm not that interested in your future content right now but that could change someday. Regardless, it was nice sticking around. In the meantime, don't do anything stupid and please take good care of yourself.

Some Jeffy stans would say "Jeffy's Birthday Surprise" (the biggest punching bag of SML) or "Jeffy's Broken Laptop" (the video that debuted Jonathan) started the downfall, when in reality "Mario The Babysitter" started the collapse of SML

Jeffy's 17th Birthday (the most recent SML video before this comment) proved that Logan didn't even improve Jeffy's character! Jeffy is still a nasty annoying spoiled brat who doesn't have one bit of a calm voice! And thank-you for making a video with this exact title! It suits that longtime situation perfectly!

So great, one more year and then jeffy hopefully gets really hated. He is just like a somehow worse version of modern spongebob’s Patrick. Just boiled away to only a few characteristics that are bland as all.

Like the people in these comments said. The reason why Logan had a downfall is because of the popularity. Which led him to be more disconnected from his fans. And he wouldn't listen to anyone's advice. It's crazy to think because AVGN has been making content for a very long time (longer then Logan) and the reason why he's still beloved is because he listens to his fans. And he's self aware about being uncreative and he'll try to do different things. Plus he doesn't pander to one part of his fanbase.
And above all he doesn't let his pride and ego get the best of him. Logan on the other hand does the exact opposite which is why his fanbase is Soo divisive. Now if Logan wasn't the guy he is now maybe I would still watch the new videos. Even with the puppets, but the decline was mostly his fault.

If you ask me sml should have just ended after mario and Luigi stupid dumb Adventures season 2 series finale because it had a endless cycle like ending where the series was nothing but a time loop that never end

My first ever video I saw from him was junior goes to waffle house. I thought it was funny. I thought it was the best video I ever saw.(nowadays that's a silly Idea but I was like 7.) I would regularly watch his videos and stay up to date. Than Jeffy came, but at first I thought he was alright. I was fine seeing him come back. But he got worse. And I got older. It is such a heartbreaking thing to see a role model fall to the the wayside. And especially after the embarrassing "movie" I think I should just never think of him again. I am moving on, and hey even though I do plush movies now, I want to follow my own path. Not the path of a sad life.
I believe blue yoshi leaving mario behind symbolizes dab coming to accept that logan will never change and as a result finding a new path. This video is overall his goodbye to making sml content.

You know, the DAY SML Movie: The Super Bowl Problem came out, it was the first time I gave a video a complete 0/10, not that it was really the worst, but because I hurt after that. I hurt knowing that my childhood franchise was dead, gone forever. There still has been like 1 good video on the new channel (The Cookie Jar, it’s legit good), but that’s it. I hope for the best for Logan and the channel, but it’s over. So let’s remember how good it once was, and be happy with that.

exactly everyone else left sml while i stayed there for a little while but i decided to move on i cant deny that i missed sml but i know deep down it will never change so i moved on with the rest and closed my final chapter of sml... lets move on together.
I stopped watching SML after the Nintendo situation. Sure that SML went downhill after Jeffy’s introduction, but I still watch his videos, but not anymore.

I bet you when Logan remakes the Summer School and 1st Grade series, he'll replace some, if not all of the students that aren't the main trio with characters like Jeffy, the Bully, Roy Gebhard, and whatever other filler characters he uses in his videos now. And I bet that he'll give Jeffy more dialogue and "funny scenes" that he'll become a big focus like the main trio when he wasn't even in the Summer School and 1st Grade series to begin with. And I bet you that videos like Cody's missing, Cody's Amiibo, the Pokemon series, and maybe Cody Plays Tennis won't get a remake (so basically any videos that have Nintendo characters or Nintendo Products) or maybe even some of the older videos he made in the channel's life won't get a remake. Or dare I say, he'll make up some random ass character to replace Mama Luigi if he remakes the videos that have him
To be honest, I really liked Jeffy when he was introduced. I saw him as a dumb yet kind of lovable kid who just didn’t really know any better. But then his character evolved into another Junior, except he curses more because that’s funny apparently. I really feel like Logan missed a big opportunity with Jeffy. I would have loved a sort of “Perry the Platypus” thing where Jeffy acts dumb with Mario and all the adults, but he goes on all sorts of crazy adventures when he’s alone. Maybe in his imagination, maybe in reality. It could have also been a good way to bring back some of the old characters like Mr Pig, The Angry Birds, and Woody; have them guest star on the adventures.

Watching Sence July 2018... Watching the History between History Accounts for 4 Years. And Looking at the History Before I Stumbled opon Jeffy Videos. I didn't have Intrest Until when I watched the Jeffy Summer School Video. Old Fans Saying that Logan needed to Stop what He were doing and atleast Put a Warning Screen before Nentindo Found Out about Him but He Ignored them. Nintendo Found Out about Logan's Content and He had to Delete the Content on SuperMarioLogan and SuperLuigiLogan. It's Unfortunate how What was Avoidable had to Happen with Logan. At My Age around 14 Years old, I was Laughing at the Older Jeffy Videos. Then Logan's Content started to Fall apart in 2019 or People say When Jeffy was Introduced. In 2020, Logan's Content started to Go out of Normal when Chris was Absent on the Account for Months. It was a Shame Logan Didn't Listen to People trying to Help Him.

Honestly I'm sad Logan never got rid of jeffy, jeffy impacted the channel in a bad way, money wise and also channel wise.
Dabhdude's downfall seems heavier than SML. From stop posting content about the SML that was responsible for his channel growth and additionally being the topic of his top 29 "most viewed" videos straight.
The SMR also announced he was going to make the decision of no longer posting SML content for the same reason of not liking their modern era of videos, but has saved himself from collapsing by returning to posting about SML as his primary content.
Dabhdude has been rarely posting SML content, but has been stuck on two ideas. Not wanting to admit his channel built a community that watches SML, but won't resume to frequently posting SML content. Despite this, he continues to look for other nintendo plush channels with small communities, but has never find the same success with the fact their channels have a small demand of their audience.
To this day, Dabhdude has went from making tens of thousands of views to less than two thousand. Once every while, he will post SML which is his most viewed content at this moment of time.
Maybe he will redeem his role as an SML reactor/reviewer. Or his determination will force himself from accepting his fate. Only time will tell.
Honestly besides his sml content I do enjoy smr's other content.
And this marked the date where this channel died. Stop making Sml content, and his whole "I'll make what I want when I want" thing utterly killed his channel.

Logan really ruined his career and life. As soon as Jeffy came around things got worse and when GMA got to him SML was basically wounded beyond repair. It's truly sad. His channel is done now.
Logan betrayed himself and the channel the second he got greedy. Most of his videos just became cash grabs so he can fund his Lamborghini collection and house. He lied to his fans with empty promises and many of his videos of him begging come off to me as emotional manipulation.
It honestly makes me sad because Logan had more potential as a youtuber and grow but he simply never did.
I don't hate Logan but I no longer respect him.
I'm still disappointed that we will never see a conclusion on many classic videos like Luigi's mansion and Chef Pee Pee quits.

Lovell was just high from smoking weed during a live streaming and trying to exposed and bashing on logan and the crew for not "calling him" according to lovell's stream. That's why is butthurt mad at logan for letting adriana to be in the sml videos now according to lovell. I stopped before that, maybe watched a new video here or there but when they could only use the puppets I just gave up on them, sad to see really, I used to love every new video but it just gotta kinda bad after a while maybe one day they could change for the better and be as popular as they were

I grew up with the old era. In the addition, Mama Luigi era as well. I always considered myself an all time loyal fan, but even the die-hards give up sometime. The nail in the coffin for me was the SML channel deletion, and puppets as a permanent change. Logan was my childhood hero, now it pains me to even say his name. I feel betrayed by my hero, with all the corporate decisions and shady business management. I wish the best of luck to Logan in his future, I’m officially out. I’ll never forget the impact Logan had on basically 80% of my life. Truly heartbreaking to be in this situation with my former favorite UA-camr.
I myself tried to stay when the Jeffy era began. Once he broke his promise of burning Jeffy I was done. I came back when he uploaded on SBL. I think the Nintendo letter was faked because he wanted to make more money. I tried watching the new videos with the current characters but they ALL SUCK! I hope he learns his lesson one day

I’m gonna be honest here, I think Logan is overprotective with handling copyright and fair use.
Logan even copyrighted most of his fans and he is not being fair to other reactors for no reasons.
After everything that has happened I still feel bad for Logan. He started out as kid who wanted to make videos with his friends about all these adventures with plush toys. Silly as his old videos may be I could tell how much fun Logan was having. And seeing him being excited when he reaches a milestone is in some way very heart warming. All the time and effort kid Logan and young adult Logan put in his videos are wasted because of the mistakes present day Logan had made.
While the main Super Mario Logan channel is gone forever archivers such as yourself made sure that the videos themselves will never fade away from UA-cam.

Yeah logan's also a victim in a ways due to nintendo's just screwing over their fanbase just because. Yeah logan has his part too but I think people really need look at this as an example of just how shady nintendos gotten over the past couple years. Sure you can argue nintendo's in the right to do so. I wouldn't argue with that but if nintendo REALLY cared about their fanbase they would of negoiated with logan just to keep the channel around for other fans. All nintendo's doing and all they've been doing is burning bridges because their popularity is high again but that's only going to last for so long while you pretty destroyed your relationship with the fans who's been there with you through pretty much everything highs and lows. Soon nintendo's gonna be like SML and to be honest good riddance. The best way to sum it all up for nintendo is one of those sayings of "just because you can doesn't you mean you should".
@@marioandultrachap You know what surprised me with Nintendo's Cease and Desist on Super Mario Logan? When Logan's channel was on the news and getting demonetized after Jeffy's Tantrum Nintendo didn't do anything. They only dropped the cease and desist in 2021 when the heat on SML was slowly dying down, and that bugged me for a while.
I'm starting to see why people don't like Nintendo, or at least the shady business members of Nintendo.

The problem is that SML was just an ordinary plush tuber like all the others that used plushes and puppets for content, but as soon as his career sky rocketed online, Logan automatically started to become hungry for power and money, which completely sucks when he used to be such a bright guy, he went from making these fun little skits with Lance, Zeke, Lovell and Pablo, but he, as well as the other guys, cared for their viewers' entertainment and happiness. But once Zeke left, and when the new guys became regulars, Logan started showing signs of not giving a toss about what his viewers like, just giving us Bowser Junior vs Chef Pee Pee videos. I think we can all agree that Logan started showing true colours when Jeffy became somewhat of an iconic figure, he became the new FRED in a way. Logan didn't care anymore, and the channel, as well as some of the SML gang themselves, became absolutely toxic and overall terrible role models. Pablo, Zeke, Elaina and Tito are probably examples of members who I actually like.
We all knew the day will come that Logan and co will get struck with their comeuppance from either UA-cam, the fans, or Nintendo, and to be fair, it was actually a little bit of each. Nintendo with the ban of plushes, the fans because of how many warnings we gave Logan, and UA-cam, for all the warnings THEY gave Logan about his dirty and inappropriate content.
Logan and his true colors,ego,greed,manipulation,scumbag nature,empty promises,and decision of making the story nonsensical and the characters extremely unlikable was the TRUE reason why SML has slowly and rapidly dying while still falling,but it extremely close to the ground,one of my favorite movies is Megamind,one of my favorite line that Logan will never do is "There's a benefit of losing,You get to learn from your mistakes".
SML is nowhere near dying. They consistently make millions of views and have kept a massive audience for years now.

And to think that all of this could have been avoided had Logan just LISTENED to the advice (Like adding a warning screen) his fans were giving him...
It's pretty sad honestly, How he just went from one of the most involved UA-camrs with his fanbase to one of the most disconnected and egotistical of them all. Making mistake after mistake, False promise after false promise. Pushing things to the point of no return. To where nobody outside of his young fanbase was even willing to defend him.
If you ask me, The TRUE downfall didn't start until The Test. I wouldn't say it was anything prior since at the very least Logan himself was still very active in his fanbase and was at least trying to appeal to what they wanted. But by the release of The Test he had already brought Mama Luigi and Woody back for a short period. The streak of The Bet, Magical Button, and Jeffy's Brain was over. I couldn't recall any big noteworthy releases after that.
Obviously 2016 and 2017 SML had their flaws (Especially 2017), But overall I do think that they had a lot of good in them and they were just before Logan officially began to exclusively pander to the Jeffy fans. 2018 is no doubt the worst SML year since there was only about five videos that could be considered anything above just "decent", Even 2019 and 2020 offered more than that.
But yeah, At this point I'm just ready to move on from SML now. I'll always have a soft spot for the older videos since I grew up watching them in 2014, I'll even defend the 2015/2016/2017 videos since I thought a lot of those were genuinely good. But aside from that... I can't bring myself to care for the new videos, And I despise the human puppets. The last new SML video I watched was the one with Bubbles in it, That one was decent I guess.

2018 had just a few good videos in a sea of meh to decent. Late 2019 and 2020 were by far the worst for me
@@johnphillips5993 2019 was mostly decent up until The Human Potion, Then it got a bit worse. But I can still recall more good videos from that year than I can from 2018.

In my opinion, Locked Out was the SML video that, At least in my opinion signified the point of no return for Logan. While Jeffy's Bad Word hammered home that Jeffy was a bad character, Locked Out cemented Jeffy's legacy as the worst SML Character of all time. It was also the video that inadvertently kickstarted a chain of events that led to Gamecubedude leaving the SML community.
I never grew up with SML, I'm a Cute Mario Bros Guy. But i got introduced to SML with Bowser Junior's Summer Vacation, and say what you want about that video; I loved it, I have fun memories about that great video. It was with that video that I watched some of the older videos like Shrimpo Hunter and Baby Shrek, and maybe a few episodes of the Mario & Luigi Stupid & Dumb Adventures (So this technically makes me apart of what you call the Junior Era, although I did watch videos of what you call the Classic Era), moving on... I don't pefer any SML style, as while I did watch some SML Videos I don't consider myself a fan, but I think everything I just said doesn't matter, and you're right, I should move on from SML, the UA-camr has been dead for 2 years, So I just have to, let go.
To me, I feel like the point of no return was from "Mario The Babysitter". Think about it. Would Logan have been where he is now if it wasn't for Jeffy? Sure, he might not have been as popular, but, at the very least he wouldn't have so many controversies, and he'd probably still have his channel. I blame everything on Jeffy. He's a mediacore character, but I believe he was the true downfall for Logan.

He’d still be making Jr videos but thankfully back in those days Joseph and Cody kinda evened out Jr’s annoying personality and made his videos watchable, nowadays Joseph is so unlikeable and such a douchebag that he’s become just as if not more annoying than Jr
The real villain were the Jeffy stans. If they haven't begged Logan to make him a character, he wouldn't have gotten his channel ruined. Jeffy is only acceptable as a one time character. He is basically the Poochie of SML.

Great video! I feel Logan nowadays is a shadow of his former self. I know that you don't look back at the Junior era in high regard but I first watched his content during that era. Looking back, Junior was kind of an annoying character but Logan still gave us some amazing videos that still hold the test of time. The most notable being the Summer School series, Mario and Bowser's Stupid and Crazy Adventures, and The Big Thanksgiving. Those videos I believe are just as iconic as the videos released during the classic era, especially Mario and Luigi's Stupid and Dumb Adventures. But all of that changed in 2016 when Jeffy made his debut.
To be honest, I actually didn't mind Jeffy at first, in fact, he had potential to be a hilarious character as proven with videos such as Jeffy's Homework. But the main problem is that Logan doesn't want to try new jokes with the character. Instead just to cather towards the little kids, he reuses the same jokes that we've seen in previous videos. Also, Jeffy became more of a spoiled brat in later appearances, all of which killed the initial enjoyment that I had with the character.
As for the videos released in 2016 and 2017, I thought they were still good with such memorable videos like Superpowers, the two part Military School series, Chef Pee Pee's Birthday Surprise, etc. Junior started becoming a better character than he was before where he stopped acting like a spoiled brat and more of a jerk but still caring for his friends and family, which I think balances out his character. However it was also at this time that I was beginning to watch some of you videos on SML's 2017 Problems which I learned that Logan in his videos was reusing the same jokes and plots and the constant use of filler. All of which are what made me stop watching SML for a bit since it was just too much.
Like what you said, there are a lot of videos that can serve as the start of the downfall of SuperMarioLogan, but if I had to choose one, I would say Jeffy's Bad Word because not only did it solidify Jeffy as the worst character in the series but it essentially made him a bad influence. And it gradually got worse from there. After watching the video Jeffy's Tantrum, a kid attempted to commit suicide JUST BECAUSE HE SAW JEFFY DOING IT!!! And Logan didn't even improve on Jeffy's character like he did with Junior. He still kept him as the same foul-mouthed spoiled brat who NEVER learns from his mistakes, "wow what a great role model for children". Also Logan is still using the same repetitive jokes, he did attempted to add new jokes but then those jokes became repetitive as well. For all of these reasons, that is why I hate Jeffy, because of his annoying, stupid, and selfish demeanor in which Logan does nothing to even improve him, he is just doing that for the kids who are subscribed to his channel only specifically for this stupid puppet, speaking of which...
In 2019, Logan introduced the human puppets, to the major backlash from fans. I was on that camp since I thought that the designs of the puppets alone were terrible and ugly. While it did ruin the enjoyment of his channel, he still used them part time and I was still able to enjoy some videos from him. This was up until February 2021, where he changed his channel to be centered on the puppets full time, which completely killed my interest for the channel.
Overall, I keep asking what happened to this channel. How did SuperMarioLogan went from a UA-cam Plush icon utilizing Nintendo characters into just being a UA-camr cathering towards little kids with all of that crap. You've given me the best explantation that you could even give me in this video since you've been part of SML from almost the start. I didn't even bother watching the puppet videos, the designs are hideous. I would always remember the older videos that I used to watch as part of my memory, but it is already time to move on after everything that has happened.

I'll say the true Fall of SML for me was when he moved into his current house because I remember people were saying there was a sort of mediocre streak after the first couple of videos in the new house back then. Sure, there were a couple of bangers during the first year there, but then after that, that's when it fully transferred into full on meh territory (with the occasional good video out of like 20) for the rest of time, despite Logan trying to make hyped up videos that looked like they were gonna be the best videos of his career...then ended up disappointing. (Jeffy's Parents and Secret Door) After that, besides the Movie that never came out, nothing like that ever came. That's when he just stopped trying to do something special like he used to.
Almost the majority of the first three months in the new house were great videos. After 2017 hit though, the video quality mostly depended on which character the video would focus on.
The main issue was he had fewer restrictions during that time. Beforehand in the apartment, he had to work within his limitations.
I stopped caring about SML ages ago. The last video I watched was the Foster Home video since somebody recommended that to me, And it was... Not good.
I have no animosity towards Logan though, I used to back in 2018, But now I've mellowed out and I don't actually care tbh

Knowing how Logan refuses to listen to anyone who try to help him or tell him that his videos are going in a bad direction and will even attack or have Lovell attack someone like Gamecubedude for not liking the newer videos and as well as ignore his true fans and only care about the stupid Jeffy Fanbrats I don't think we will ever another classic era. Espically after Logan was told he can no longer use Nintendo characters (Any hope of Luigi's Mansion getting completed is dead now or has been for a long time) Plus I have watched at least 3 new SML videos last night (I am planning on doing a part 2 of my SML rant so I have to do research and what not for it more) and the problems that cause SML to go downhill are still there if not worse. They are probably one of the worse videos I have watched so far this year. All Logan seems to only care about is greed and fame. He does not care if his new videos are soulless now. I mean look at what happened to the whole patreon situation a few years ago. He never refunded anyone nor did he give them the rewards he promised and never stated he was closing his patreon. I used to love SML as I found the channel back in mid 2009 when I was 15 but now. Its just a soulless shell of its former self. Logan himself is also not a good person anymore since he allowed the fame to get into his head.
@HammerBroGH I never did got to see GCD's videos before Logan and Lovell forced him to leave UA-cam all cause of the bullshit he did not react good enough since I guess Logan hates the idea that people were hating his newer videos (And still are) I had no idea about this until like maybe a couple years ago. Makes me more glad I left this forsaken fanbase and only watch the older video that I enjoy.
Kushowa, another former reactor of SML quit watching his videos because he knew as well that the quality of the content was fading and getting worse and worse. He tried to give Logan advice on improving his content like getting rid of Jeffy or give him less appearances and have more old characters appear. He eventually had to delete his channel because there were fans that kept requesting him to react to SML and he got tired of it

You can't really pin point exactly when he went to complete shit, but I feel the fall started when he decided to make a schedule. Instead of developing an idea and making it creative he would just take an idea and roll with. If you watch a new video the plots feel completely pointless. The characters run into a problem but the problem resolves itself and the characters are hardly effective because "the video is over 10 minutes and we couldn't think of an ending"

In my opinion, the video that signified the beginning of the end for SML was "Bowser Jr's Mac N Cheese". Because that video completely changed SML for the worse. What went from what was basically a Plush Variety Show turned into a Disney Channel.....ish sitcom which focuses on one unlikable irredeemable character that nobody actually liked yet was the focus of the entire channel. Because of the Junior era, Logan turned into a malicious corporate douchebag with ZERO accountability.

A Franchise Original Sin is a flaw that in earlier, good installments was kept under control to the point of not really being a flaw, but goes out of hand and becomes apparent in later installments.
Expect to hear a lot of statements like "It was all right when it only happened occasionally, but..." if this trope is brought up in conversation. Sometimes, these elements might have actually been embraced initially, only for fan opinion to turn against them once they became problematic to the work at large. Ironically, the Fan Dumb might use this to defend Seasonal Rot, invoking false equivalency with statements like "Well these elements were used back in earlier installments, and you weren't complaining about it then!"
In SML's case, sure Junior had the same problems as Jeffy, but he was written better and funnier so people didn't mind as much. But Jeffy is in some ways a more corporate attempt to copy what Junior did/make lightning strike twice
