I have seen more than one comment responding that this is not the song used and a song by, I think someone said Dave Robyn, called "Burning Candles" is the song. Yes, it is. And no, it isn't. In 1985, when on NBC, the song used was "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads, very popular at the time. The first two seasons of the show used a lot of popular music and artists. However, once Stephen J. Cannell (or his estate) finally had the show released on DVD in 2010, all of the popular music was removed and replaced with newer songs and little-known artists due to copyright and not wanting to pay for continued use of the ORIGINAL songs used. The series was released in Germany later. However, music laws are different overseas, and Germany used ORIGINAL prints of the show for its DVD sets, thus keeping all of the original music used as when it aired on NBC. Hope this pinned note clears up the confusion and so as not to keep repeating this reply to such posts about the replacement song. :)
Holy crap! I cant believe i found this! I was little kid and saw this episode of Hunter at Grandma’s house and thought I go look for it on YT. I fell like Richard Dreyfus when he saw Devils Tower on Close Encounters...
I remember watching this episode when it originally aired with this song, and we were just watching the show on Peacock and they played the other song. I searched UA-cam and you didn't disappoint! Thanks for posting this.
It is a crying shame that most of the TV shows produced & created by Stephen J. Cannell had their original music replaced due to no one wanting to pay for them. The music in Cannell's shows were like another character. They made EVERY scene both unforgettable & better. So now shows like The Greatest American Hero, Hunter & 21 Jump Street are a shell of their former selves. I can only hope one day someone has the money to spend and puts out these programs the way they were originally intended!
Well, since we know the original prints still exist (thanks to the foreign distributors that released the intact DVDs!), I hope it happens some day, although I sadly doubt it.
I uses to stay up late when I was a child on school nights to watch Hunter I will never forget this episode cause my Dad and I are music fans so at an early age I loved the Talking Heads I didn't understand the lyrics but loved the phrase Burning down the house
I'm watching Hunter on syndication stateside, but the songs are totally different! I wasn't allowed to watch Hunter (or Miami Vice!) when I was young when it was first aired, only to catch the show later while I was in high school. So I wasn't surprised when the songs used were different than originally aired. I was a big fan of Quantum Leap and definitely remember all the episodes, only to get disappointed buying the DVD set finding the songs that set the tone of the show were removed. So color me surprised that Hunter in syndication has popular songs removed! I only was looking for this particular episode to find the song used, but it wasn't Talking Heads being played, that's for sure. I think I like Burning Candles more for this episode versus Talking Heads (big fan of them by the way!)

Yes, that is the CURRENT song used. But when Hunter was released on DVD in 2010, Stephen J. Cannell had all popular music stripped with unknown artists to save money. @@WendyCR72 good to know. Yes the 1984 version song "burning down the house" would have been better fit but this newer version burning candles did have a scene that represented the new song. @@rodrigovidela273 Probably because Stephen J. Cannell (or his estate, trying to recall if he was still alive when the US DVD set was released; Cannell died in September 2010) did not want to pay the royalties the popular music would likely charge for continued use.
I do thank you for sharing this version with the original song back in, but I do feel that in this case, the replacement song, Burning Candles is way more suitable for the episode.
I might be wrong but that doesn't sound like talking heads. The vice is a bit different and the music is much sharper. Maybe it was a cover version they did for the show?

It had this song when first aired in the UK
First time hearing this song...and I was so mesmerized!
Yes, the song was Burning Down the House. I hate when they replace the original music as if they can't afford it. They have plenty of money.
It works for me
