- Today we travelled back to the Manchester United training ground at Carrington Road where we filmed an episode with the Director of Academy, Nick Cox!
Nick told us about what the Manchester United players receive when they sign their first contracts to keep the tradition going!

Arsenal did this for years. For reasons unexplained it's been ditched. Started to fade away under Wenger. All Arsenal players were issued with the Arsenal Blazer. Arsenal captain chooses sleeve length. Idea being all the players look the same. Been in place since the 60s when short sleeve introduced. Another thing ditched under Wenger.

Signings not Academy players
Garnacho and AWB? A brought player and an academy player. Standards aren't what they used to be, agreed. But it's not all doom and gloom.
@@daveysgb Garnacho possibly, but AWB is not better now than when United bought him. What's led people to believe that he's improved is that he was terrible for the first 2 seasons at United, but then he started to improve, that's given the illusion that the club have improved him, but all that's happened is he regained some of the form he was showing earlier in his career. And personally I don't think he's at the level he was at in his last season at Palace. Nobody is knocking on the door offering 50 million these days are they?

Whilst I’m all for standards and great to hear , it’s a basic given for me, but then see sancho, martial and fernandes sulking on the pitch showing mixed messages to the fans , I do wonder on the disconnect here , there is nothing breaking thro to the first team for years now that makes a difference , city on the contrary have a abundance of talent coming , Mainoo looks decent on the eye for Utd . Certainly Hannibal and mctominay have not taken the club by storm and look fit for championship sides . I think brailsford will overhaul this area and sweep this lot out particularly this bloke.

The academy is run by excellent people like Nick Cox and the first team is run by bankers like Richard Arnold and Ed Wodward to put it simply.

Manchester United have had an academy player involved in every matchday squad since January 1937, that's 86 years worth of academy players..and you can name 3 to counter his point, one of which isn't even an academy player.....I see .
ok so you can only name 2 out of the tens of thousands of academy players there's been since the 30s 🤷♂
The greatest gift they are given is bucket loads of money and the promise that they never have to work another day in their life.
Fake an injury if you don't feel like actually showing up, we'll still renew your contract because we don't want to sell you at a loss, do we, no, that would make us look like we have no idea what we're doing.
Throw in a performance or 2 in the last year of your contract and we'll double your wages.

He goes on about young lads helping the club since World War and the Munich disaster but where are the youth players now because there's only 1 maybe 2 coming through and thats in the past 5 years
He's speaking about on and off the field. We let go of some u21s past few years and they've done very well, people forget top flight football is still the dream and they get to live it. Yeah most dont make it at United but their experience gives them the ability to do well elsewhere. U18's are very promising, but its not just ability that drives em, it's the conduct and maturing which is something that's extremely done well.

Great. They can worry about suits and elocution while they get trampled on the field. The academy is not producing players, the first team is a dumpster fire, and the stadium is crumbling. The club is literally the meme of the cartoon dog saying “Everything is fine” while everything around him is on fire.

Almost every single club approaches academy football/development by focusing on social development of young players. Any club worth its salt does it.
