  • Ancient Dances of Igbo Land.
In those days in Igbo land, when there was road in the middle of the ukwa tree, when the up was the ground of the squirrel, that period between the harvesting season and the planting season was usually meant for social activities. Those days, women from one community always travel to another community to teach them new dances. The host community welcomes their guests, their dance teachers, with joy. The guests are always well entertained with food and drinks for any number of days they will stay. The news of the new dance always spread like wildfire, and keeps the community in anticipation for the day the dance will be shown to the whole town. When the dance teachers have gone, the learners instruments will be heard very late into the night, after supper, reverberating through the entire community. They are the dance learners trying to master the dance steps. This ancient tradition of the Igbos was reenacted at Okofia Village Obeledu on the 10th of April 2024 when Igwebuike age grade women dance group from Adazi Nnukwu came to teach the women of Okofia Village Obeledu a new dance. Enjoy the video of the arrival of Igwebuike women at Okofia Village Obeledu.
