Pure lies! I was there when Dr Nduom brought the strategy to expand the GN Bank branches to villages. Mr Patrick Annumel then CEO even rejected the proposal. This had nothing to Kuffuor's government.

Data bank is an investment bank not a deposit taking bank. Because of the special nature of their operations they have only 2 branches Accra and tema. How can the whole Unibank collapse because someone want to promote an investment bank? Does it make sense ?
The downgrade of financial institutions is as a result of inadequate reserves ( i.e. the minimum capital requirement ). GN Bank is owed monies to the tune of 3 billion Ghana cedis by this government. It would have been about 4.5 billion, but tge erstwhile Mahama administration paid some. This government has refused to pay him. Any bank owed this amount will have liquidation problems which will lead to inability to meet the minimum capital requirements, which will then lead to a downgrade. There you have it.

First pointer to challenge this man of the facts of his arguments is the ADB story.
African development Bank was formed way earlier than the agricultural development bank. Besides, the abbreviated names are even different. There's AfDB for the African one as opposed to adb for the one in Ghana. There's no relation between the two as he's loosely and loudly attempting to establish.
For the rest of what he's saying, i can't speak to them but i certainly will cautiously take verify his statements as he doesn't seem to have some basic facts rightly set.

GNBank was a subsidiary of Group Nduom. That's why it was GNBank. And if you think that a slashing down the dolar reserves of the foreign banks to prevent them from leaving and collapsing Ghana's economy then was a good strategy then please go back to the drawing board. There was no need for all that bcos all our debts (denominated in USD) was written off when President Kuffour took Ghana to HIPC.
The HIPC initiative by Prez Kuffour was a smart move. Ghanas debt is twofold - Government to Government debt and Private sector to Government debt. The HIPC programme cancelled the Government to Government debt but not the private sector debt.
But I believe a better move would have been to use the Russian model - propose penalties for banks wishing to leave the country. This would deter them from arbitrarily wanting to leave after making good profits in the country.

Redenomination by kuffour's administration was the biggest and the greatest financial suicidal ever happened to Ghana. Our current economy woes have their root cause from that wack redenomination of the cedi in the name of arresting the cedi. The proper way to arrest the cedi is to produce more locally and export more goods than imports. Captain smart is wrong on this one.
The redenomination was an attempt to forestall a financial crisis. It was not meant to be a permanent solution, but pls indulge me as I ask this question. What would you have done if all the major banks had decided to leave in one year ?
