Cool! Tiny additional hack suggestion: If you spray paint those metal rods and screw on piece (which are visible now) a matte white with Rustoleum it will blend in or disappear a bit more...and only take a minute to do.
AWESOME SAUCE!!!! U R A LIFE SAVER!!! There is a 16" drum lamp shade with a pattern that fits the wallpaper in my guestroom EXACTLY! The manufacture does not make it for ceilings and there is no other ceiling light manufactures that make a ceiling light with that pattern! I'm so glass I found this video! I can have the guestroom accents/designs I want without compromise!
Try getting white poster board next time and cover with fabric. It’s so much cheaper, Much easier to work with and I think it would give u the same look. Also you could make the entire lamp shade out of poster board, the body and the circular piece. Just attach the hardware.

Great Idea. I think the poster board may have to be thin in order for the light to get through.

They may. You might even find it online as well.
