Lovely to see these vehicles again. I have a corgi 1/50 scale model of the Leyland Octopus with the 3 tanks in the Walter Southworth livery which I noticed going past.
Those 'dancers' were hilarious. They all acted like they could do it - but none of them could ! They looked like they had been picked from the crowd ! Priceless.
Shame there were no tilt cab models from mid 60s to mid 70s. As a kid I washed trucks for a local firm at weekends, they had AEC units with the same design cab (of course it was all BL group by then) our local Texaco refinery used several “F” reg models to haul tankers right up till the late 70s.
i know just what you mean , when i was a kid in short trousers we used to have a brilliant carnival for a small village . there used to be a lovely parade of floats , marching bands ,a fun fair ,displays by the emergency services , running races and fancy dress for the kids, tractor and trailer rides. brilliant. but nowadays it boils down to money and commitment nobody wants to get involved . all we get now is one float and a jazz band on a vintage commer bus .
Del Salvador, una pregunta Antonio Rodríguez, adónde fabricaban los leyland, cuando yo era joven solo vi como dos, hoy tengo años de que no se ven🙋 un saludo hasta Panamá.
in the past the parade consisted of everything the area produced such as industrial and agricultural products. - now its basically a parade of state dependent single mums, which i guess is still a reflection of the towns output.
I have about 10 - 15 seconds of the belly dancers but as they reached us the stopped dancing and started running to catch up with the people in front. I will upload what I have when I get home tonight.
@macreedyroo Na they wont ever bring leyland festival back it would cost a fortune to do it again and they always had hassle there at nights with chavs fighting. The only way to do it would be to have the festival but close it all down at 6 p.m. that would work.
Sir nice video compilation of Trucks, especially @ 1:29 the leyland model is awesome - kindly visit my channel, since most of videos on ashok leyland and one : - vintage Very Rare model of Leyland 1970 model Reiver - loaded with bulldozer
0:08 If any of them should have stumbled, they would have fallen like dominoes, the truck, without air pressure into brake system would crush them like hamburgers. Kudos to criminal organizers
Air pressure? Both of those vehicles are from an era when air brakes were not so common, and my understanding is that most ex military Bedford RL types had HYDRAULIC brakes, even more so in the case of the older vehicle. I think it is more likely your lack of knowledge is at fault here.
Ha ha ha look at 0:45 a bunch of strippers dancing for a crowd of bored looking pensioners thats funny. Almost as funny as the last proper leyland festival i went too with my older brother and parents and sister back in about 96ish they had a brass band playing and for some reason they had this guy dressed up as spiderman having a fight with a guy dressed up as dr octopus. Ill never forget that it was funny as hell.
A wonderful selection. It took me back in time. I remember all of those vehicle designs.
Nice to see video of Bowker's fine Leyland Beaver, not long before its untimely demise. It was a lovely machine to drive.

The brand British Leyland has become a history in UK, but its legacy will live on in India for many years to come.
Absolutely. We should include old Ashok Leyland models as well . The Comets bring back old memories. We had the same cowl in the Comets of the 1960s.
Paa ji, not only in India but in Karachi Pakistan as well. Old Leyland busses of 1960s,
