Tarzan is a very difficult character to bring to the screen. Having read all 24 Tarzan books as a adolescent, I think Conan the Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger is a close approximation of this iconic character. I like what i have seen so far in this trailer. Dwayne Johnson certainly has the look of the image painted in my mind as a child . To get a flavor the the character created by Edgar Rice Boroughs one should read "Jungle Tales of Tarzan". There is one printing with the cover painting by Frank Frazetta, which i think nailed it. Boroughs creates a savage brutal animal, and also highly intelligent and self educated human being. Most screen adaptations either emphasize the animal side, Johnny Weissmuller, whom I like a lot (Can anyone say Tarzan Escapes), or the intelligent side "Ron Ely". No one so far has been able to combine his dualistic nature. "Greystoke the Legend of Tarzan" with Christopher Lambert came close, but I think the director choked and held back his animal nature. I think the mistake that film makers make when dealing with Tarzan is not taking the character seriously, or at face value.

Also fun fact Jane doesnt get mentioned again after the 10 novel she just disappears, i think she gets a brief note about her in book 24.
