HI Jack,那个不是木桶,那个是用来蒸米饭的,原来很常见,后大量被电饭煲替代了,现在在农村也能见到 。但就算现在,用它蒸出的饭也明显比电饭煲做出的要香得多。用这个东东做饭,还有个副产品----米汤。现在的孩子都没机会喝。。。。。

Wooden steamer was very popular in China, now mostly replaced by stainless steel ones.
It can also be used as food storage container, holding heat before eat. Chinese preferred warm (hot) foods.

90 到2000年我还在南方老家时候确实每家每户都有这样一个木桶蒸饭 特别是有节日的时候 以前没有专门煮饭的锅 干饭一般都是用木桶或铁盒子 蒸出来的

@@yingguojieke, where I am from it’s not for daily rice cooking/steaming , so the wooden rice steamer is much big, which is used for big events, making rice cake etc., Xiantao in Hubei China where my husband is from the wooden steamer is common as it’s used to steam rice at the bottom and then meat,fish and vegetables together …… seeing is believing, never say never, things exist for a long time have their reasons
