Has long has you keep the man involved you guys hit a gold mine
George about who's his favorite: "Those are tricky questions. That's like asking which of your children you love the best..."
George half a second later: "Daemon Targaryen"
He has spoken like a real parent.
@@erayozsaray3526 Just like when my mom delayed before naming my baby sister, and then equivocated, adding my older brother. 😠
'I don't really care for Aegon II.'
Translation: I feel guilty about having a favorite child but here it is
@@rahimg6842 He's referencing a Arrested development quote. A character claims to love all her children equally then the camera cuts to a scene earlier where she claims out of the blue to not like one of her kids, unprompted.
I love the humility in him admitting the show did Viserys better.
Yeah, that was so sweet of him to say...
It's true, as a reader, I do find show Viserys to be freaking phenomenal. A fully realized character.
Which is why ... People should watch the show
Not just that but he loved his acting so much he considered going back and rewrite book viserys scenes
I also prefer show Tywin rather than book Tywin, the adaptation with him and Arya in season 2 was better than the books(originally with Arya serving Roose Bolton instead of him)
I feel like in the books, hes kinda just a copy paste of King Robert Baratheon, just less war hungry and violent. It feels like he didn't put that much thought into him because he didn't have to write as much for him as for most of the characters in asoiaf
He is saying the obvious man. I love show Viserys.
Paddy Considine is such a great actor in House of Dragon. I'm glad Martin recognizes that as well.
Ammys on the way
I wonder why so many people call him paddy constantine for some reason
@@DutchMadness77 How can you not understand that? It's so obvious
@@SuperCrow02 enlighten me
God if I see one more person over hype Paddy.
He’s good but hardly a stand out or memorable. The actor who gets his head chopped off gave one of the most standout performances in one scene, Paddy is solid but him getting called out like he steals the scene like Ewan and Matt Smith is ridiculous at this point.
"Caraxes is younger, faster and he's also very battle-hardened, very fierce, doesn’t take any crap from anyone."
My noodleboi🐉❤️
and people will still say Meleys is bigger 💀💀
He and Vhagar being so similar in their hardness makes their inevitable duel all the more bittersweet.
@@syntheovaldy5173 `Well actually they both are roughly of the same age and both had their first rider around the same period. Caraxes's first rider was aemon targaryen( rhaenys's father) and meleys's first rider was alyssa targaryen( daemon's and viserys's mother). We maybe will know who is bigger or who was born first id they make a shown on jaeherys's rule.
Also meleys is faster than caraxes and vhagar is bigger than caraxes but caraxes with daemon can probably take on any dragon and dragonrider.
@@klausod1243 even if they are of similar ages, it's clear Caraxes is way bigger, it's very evident in the show, look at Caraxes on episode 3 at the first scene vs Crab Feeder, then look at Meleys in episode 10 leaving Dragonstone and tell me they are the same size💀
If George RR Martin says that his own character was made better by the show, that's the highest compliment he can give. Give Paddy Considine all the awards in the world!
He’s said that about multiple GoT characters as well

People ask why we love Daemon. GRRM answered it properly
Daemon is the perfect antihero of this world. Well of the Targaryen bloodline anyway. I love the complexity as George put it. I think Daemon would be the best type of person to be.
@@natechenry I disagree he is a Cold blooded killer. While he is the most interesting and my favourite character from the books and he is portrayed phenomenally by Matt smith on the show. I definitely wouldn’t want to be like him he has done some appalling stuff that the show hasn’t even got round to telling yet lol. Definitely my favourite character from the books and the show though.
@@MrOasis316
Agree with this 100%
People expect these stories to be about cool anti heroes and bad boys and redemption but it’s just not
He started strangling his wife who had not an hour before gone through an extremely brutal and traumatic birth , anyone who admired him is looking at it wrong
@@alexholloway9847 true and that’s like one of the least evil things he’s done lol. He is not a good guy. He is an excellent warrior who does some great things but he also does some despicable things. Great character to read and watch but definitely not one to aspire to be like. unless you like killing people 😂
Jaime Lannister must be his favourite character from asoiaf
Amazing guy and very admirable, his writing in the universe was amazing and the tv shows adapted that very well
Like his universe but not him so much after his reaction to fans wanting Winds of Winter and holding him to his own words.
@@invaderjoshua6280 dont be mad that hes taking his time, he should not be forced to rush his lifes work for some fat internet nerd whos never felt a womans touch
Yes to all that, but I need he to finish Winds of Winter...
He cant even finish his own book series
Everything he writes is ‘borrowed’ from real life English History. Even Westeros is the same shape as Britain complete with Northern Wall
What a joy to hear this man talk about his stories and characters. He speaks about it with such certainty, you would think it's based off REAL history lol.
GOT/HOTD is so good it makes it hard for me to watch any other high fantasy stuff. I simply cannot stop comparing it to this level of quality.
It is based off real history. GRRM fantasy world is based off of real world history.
@@antoniochasten3192 I did hear him speaking of the war of the rose being an inspiration.
@@caramelnotcar-mel9094 A lot of Scottish, English and mainland Europe old history he used for his books. The Red Wedding is basically The Black Dinner. Obviously the Houses are modeled after medieval houses and if I'm not mistaken, ASOIF countries are modeled after real life countries. I think Yi Ti is inspired by China, Dorne is inspired by a mix of India and the Mediterranean and the Summer Isles is inspired by Africa.
@@antoniochasten3192 thanks for that. I will looking into the other similarities. Bronze to late mid-evil ages are my favorite times in history.
@@caramelnotcar-mel9094 Sure thing, bruh👍
George answered that ‘fav character’ question the way my mom answers the fav child question. I love them all oh and btw the eldest Mona is a law graduate….top of her class…
Everyone loves Daemon. Such a brilliantly written character. Matt Smith does an incredible job as well. Every scene he is in he dominates the screen. HotD has been everything I hoped it would be and then some. Can’t say enough how awesome of a job everyone did with season 1! It almost cured my GoT season 8 PTSD! And that’s no easy task 😅🙏🏻👏🏻
Can’t wait for season 2 👏🏻
agreed, can't wait either
He has a great imagination....wow. Authors are true hidden jewels honestly.

I've never seen GoT and glad I hadn't because House of the Dragon is absolutely spectacular all on its own. I also love the complexity and demeanor of Daemon he's ambitious and headstrong but still loves he's family and Rhaenyra.
It’s going to be a big treat now for you to watch GOT! And yes HOTD was amazing!!!
At some point I would highly recommend watching GoT, especially since you like this. The last couple of seasons are not great, as I'm sure you've heard - but you've got at least 6 seasons' worth of really spectacular TV that is worth getting into.
You should watch it if you love House of the Dragon. GoT is considered one of the greatest TV shows ever created. The final season is very torn between fans, but you can judge that for yourself if you watch it. It's a remarkable TV show.
@@GreenFalcon926 it may have not been the best but it was ok. The last episode just didn’t end how we would like but it ends and leaves room to grow
@@jprosey Probably the best description of the final episode. I agree, I still liked it but it could have been way better.
Paddy Considine was incredible. All the actors are amazing on the show, and he stands out among them in quite the same way Peter Dinklage did on GOT.
agreed. too bad he faced his end.
Daemon is like a unpredictable mystery! Lol Matt Smith did him justice, perfect casting.
I loved Jamie , he is probably the most complex character written.
Yeah and they completely ruined his character development

I have been humming that tune most of the day.
Not as good as the rain of castamere tho
I absolutely love how much HBO has gone out of their way to respect and honor George RR Martin's vision. This is a beacon of hope for artists.
I like how Martin's world is rooted in real life things and events.
“That’s very tricky it’s like asking which of your children do you love best” no hesitation “daemon”
I'm so happy for George that HotD is such a great show and has been so well received. I bought Fire and Blood the day it was released, and read it cover to cover within days - HotD adapts it better than I could ever have hoped. Bring on Season 2!
I will wait to read it after the show. Trying to avoid spoilers so I can enjoy this the way I couldnt with GoT 🙂

This man is my role model, I'm currently writing my own Epic Fantasy Novel and he's one of my inspirations as a writer, I can only aspire to touch a bit of his greatness. Him and Tolkien are one of a kind.
Tolkien actually finished a series though. This git has purposely stopped writing.
Love you George! Such a treasure. Really one of the great writers of our time
You gave us the best form of escape and I can't be thankful enough for it.
*The* *Popularity* *of* *Daemon* *Targaryen*
I saw a poll yesterday for the most popular character in House of the Dragon. Unsurprisingly to most of us, Daemon won.
42.2% - Daemon Targaryen 🖤
18.8% - Rhaenyra Targaryen 🖤
14.3% - Rhaenys Targaryen 🖤
8.1% - Aemond Targaryen 💚
5.4% - Viserys Targaryen 🖤
2.7% - Criston Cole 💚
1.8% - Corlys Velaryon 🖤
1.3% - Laenor Velaryon 🖤
Ryan Condal laughed at the notion that fans are more qualified than him and George R.R. Martin to make decisions about important characters. “Yeah, please explain to me and George who Daemon is as a character, everybody."
Man, the HBO writers keep wanting to insult Daemon stans because many females worship him like he's Elvis Presley. The HBO writers dirty Daemon on TV, yet, he's still far and away the most popular character on House of the Dragon. Happy 4⃣0⃣th birthday 🎂🎈, Matt Smith.
I think if Daemon ordered Blood and Cheese 100 times, he would still be the most popular. Daemon can bring Rhea Royce back from the dead 100 times and kill her in 100 different ways and he would still be the most popular. He's everyone's favorite Targaryen rock star.
Daemon could do what Rhaenys did killing hundreds of innocent people in the Dragonpit 100 times and he'll still be the most popular. He can snap his finger like Thanos wearing the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half the universe and he'll still be the most popular.
What's his appeal? He's an alpha. He's a charismatic badass and antihero. Maybe Sara Hess only dated nerds or beta males. But lots of women are attracted to bad boys. Look at Scott Peterson, a wife-killer like Daemon. He got tons of love letters and marriage proposals. Same with Charles Manson when he was still alive.
*SPOILERS*
Think about this for a moment. Vhagar (the largest dragon), Caraxes (the most ferocious dragon), Aemond (the most badass Green), and Daemon (the most badass Black) all crash into a body of water. And among those 4, only Daemon might have come out of it ALIVE!!
That's GOAT-level. I can't think of any character from any popular franchise who exits a show as BADASS as that. Not even Iron Man and Darth Vader exited a franchise as cool as that. 😎
Damn😂
Wtf?...
Paddy Considine was superb as King Viserys. It reminded me of King Lear as well.
He has such a great mind, I can’t believe he’s created such an in depth world with so much detail
In a show filled with great characters played by talented actors, paddy still carried it. Viserys was just such a joy to watch every moment he was on screen, amazingly realised character
I need more of this!!!!
This man is a genius, no doubt about it. Imagine creating a world, with so many details, characters, family trees with generations and generations.
"I'd like to live in Oldtown. It's a very nice place."

I don't really consider Jon a Targ. He's more like a Stark. But he still wouldn't make my list even if he had the same hair color as Daenerys and rode dragons for most of his life. He's one of the GOATs among Starks though.
So I have the same favorite Targaryen as George R.R. Martin. So what? He creates these characters. His favorite dragon is Balerion which would be my favorite dragon as well. Tyrion Lannister was his favorite from Game of Thrones who was also my favorite. Well, at least up to S4.
Among book readers, Viserys I is not exactly regarded a good king. In fact , many readers blame him for the civil war breaking out. But Paddy added so much layers to him that he raised the character's stock from the TV show. Paddy truly deserves an Emmy.
There is a Blu-ray version that will add some deleted scenes. I believe once this Blu-ray version is out, this longer cut should be the only version that HBO should keep re-airing. The version we just watched is the Make-Daemon-A-Demon cut.
Sick and tired of HBO writers trying to dirty GRRM's favorite Targaryen that Matt Smith has to come up with improvisation to prevent them from assassinating his character. I'm aware Daemon isn't good but at least give him a fair shake and stop insulting his fans thinking we are all morons.
Ryan Condal and Sara Hess come off extremely condescending to their viewers. Sorry if Daemon isn't written like Paul Rudd, Sara.
Also, wanna bet that the writers are going to pin Blood & Cheese completely on Daemon and Daemon alone ? I bet they're gonna absolve Rhaenyra of any bad doings there. Make it look like Daemon did it against Rhaenyras will. The writers are so afraid to show the female leads in a negative light. Which is such a disservice to the female characters. It adds complexity t o their characters instead they show them as Disney princess characters with an R rating.
He reminds me so much of my grandfather it's crazy.
Great video. I hope he is very much involved in season 2

Props to George for recognizing when the adaptation does something better than his original source material
Thanks a lot Warner Brothers now I have wait another year for the second season of house of dragons
Would be curious to know George’s opinion on the show now that it’s complete and properly edited
There’s another interview he did recently that was filmed a day after the finale came out. Just search on UA-cam and I’m sure you’ll find it but he said something along the lines of “the magic of visual effects” “vfx artists are like wizards” and it was “gorgeous”.
Since he's favorite character in the book daemon Targaryen I wish he can asked him what he thinks of Matt Smith daemon Targaryen in the show I really wanted to hear he's opinion especially the last scene when daemon chokes rhaenyra Because of the book's readers, they have different perspectives. Some say this is exactly the character of daemon, and others say the most beautiful aspect of Damon is that he loves his family, and no matter how harsh he was with others, he was nostalgic and respectful with rhaenyra.
Viewers & critics/entertainment media need to take off the 21st century moral glasses when reviewing this type of shows. Grabbing his wife like that in the middle ages does not mean he doesn't care for her or that he is a toxic male, a red flag, and so on. That's modern talking. He snapped because of the tension of the moment, what Rhaenyra was saying sounded delusional to him.
Those who didn't like that scene probably those "shipping" people. Romanticizing every story, every characters, and everything.
We have seen Daemon 1) cheat on the tourney 2) kill his wife 3) attack a poor guy who only delivered news to him
It's a little weird to be surprised by him being aggresive
@@tusou1247 Cheat is such a strong word when he never wanted to be married with said person to begin with. If you're not allowed to divorce and death is the only solution of course you're gonna F other people lol. He never F'd the wife he never wanted and hated anyway. Well he killed a wife that he wasn't allowed to divorce from and the only solution to marrying the person he truly loved was death. I would say Viserys was as much to blame for that as Daemon. He asked repeatedly not to marry her, even asked an out from it as he never wanted it. But was always denied. When he attacked the messenger and Rhae, all not cool but then again he didn't do any of these things out of the blue. Everything you mentioned comes from a place of reason, wrong as it may be. This is what makes him a fascinating character. He's not a one note bland character like 99% of leading characters on TV that are just inherently good or bad people. He is human, with the good and the bad. Even blood & cheese happens FOR A REASON. A SON FOR A SON. It's not just cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
@@Rianna468 You didnt read what I said XD and bro everything you said it's just so wrong
I'm happy as a fan of the books to see such a good adaptation, but I think I'm happier that George gets to see his work given the love and care it deserves
The rage in Queen Rhaenyra’s eyes… she’s no more “Viserys The Peaceful’s” daughter, rather she has now embraced the ambition and hunger of her younger self (Milly Alcock’s version). 🔥
I just hope you live another century dude 🙏
That’s cool when a adaptation improves upon its source material. Rare, but it happens. I think the House Velaryon recasting makes tons of sense too, sticks out more than just hair color as the questioning of parentage. Obviously done for inclusion, but honestly I like to see more diversity for world building so I think it’s a full win.
I hope he lives to finish the books. Wishing him health.
The biggest scene he’s talking about might be either Rooks Rest or the Duel in Harrenhal
Amazing how one man created an amazing world with so many amazing characters and stories.
This man is a national treasure and we must protect him at all costs!
I swear this man hasn't aged since game of thrones started

He talks about it like it's real and I love it.
It's funny how these are supposed to be fan questions about the show (specifically, and not about the books, as the title mentions HotD and not Fire and Blood), but George mentions how this video is taped before the show aired. I don't mean this as a critique, just a fun detail to point out. I actually really liked the video!
But you know before the season aired there were promo stuff, like pictures, teasers, trailers, etc, right?
@@dewantoroo of course! It’s just, the way he speaks about the series, and spoilers the entire thing, it’s obviously meant to be watched after you‘ve seen the series. And yet it’s been recorded before it aired.
