This video was edited by the very talented and award winning trailer producer Gage Allen.
Composed by: Andreas Waldetoft
Recorded in Germany with the Brandenburg State Orchestra.
Conductor: Bernd Ruf
All synth programming: Andreas Waldetoft

Stellaris' soundtrack is just so awesome, it really gives you this feeling of wonder, of a universe that wants to be discovered.
Similar, in my opinion, to the 2016 master of orion game. Still have that one. Love to crack it out when offline singleplayer is needed

Probably one of the best 4x game soundtracks ever created, TBH.
you mean conquered?
Pdx are very lucky, having such a great composer!
And so are we!
And its not easy i tried to compose but never have made one complete piece i think i need to be a better music student before trying to compose
Now if somewho tell me that games aren't art, I will just can throw this video in them. :D
Thank you, Andreas, for that and for everything!
Some games are art, at least.
What's not art is that game that EpicGames made to addict 250 million and counting.
@@halfofabucket1346 the new version is a demonic instrument of mind enslavement
Stellaris is many different kinds of art, starting from the writing of the events and ending with the best soundtrack.
In fairness, a good soundtrack is not evidence that a video game is art. Music is its own art, and a video game that has music _contains_ art. Just like a video game with good visuals also _contains_ art.
Many video game _contain_ art, but not all video games _are_ art, in my opinion. The game's interactivity has to convey artistic meaning in a way that goes beyond the graphics, soundtrack, or writing if a game is to truly be art.
It is art as is the development of cinema. We call it “cinematic” for that reason”.
Stellaris is one of the few entire game soundtracks I love, bought it within 2 hours of playing. Truly phenomenal.
I have yet to play the game but I listen to the soundtrack on a weekly basis while I'm working.
Imagine being 1% this talented 😍
What I do know is that you are very talented in being kind, and that is the most beautiful thing. Thank you!
@@andreaswaldetoft3345 You're amazing!
I love how calming this music is, thank you! Love the game even more, it's frustrating but I get to listen to this!
Dear Mr. Waldetoft, I really love your work! The Stellaris OST, Crusader Kings 2 OST and the EU4 OST are truly awesome
Thank you so much. I am really happy you like them! Cheers
@@andreaswaldetoft3345 Mr. Waldetoft, I'm commenting to you again to tell you how your music still doesn't cease to amaze me. It's like your compositions struck a very nerve in my heart. It's tough to describe! However, I wanted to ask you how the musicians under your direction felt. Did they like to play the Stelarris OST? How did they feel recording this epic work?
One of the iconic Sci-fi scores of this decade. Evocative of the genre but distinctively doing their own thing.
@5:55 Coat hanger as earrings got me cracked up.
Wow those earrings ARE cool ^^
:D
I love how you were able to make this piece invoke so many different emotions: grandiosity, wonder, hope, aspiration, triumph, and more.
Yup
YES YES YES!!! I've wanted something like this for a long time now!! I'm a huge fan of Waldetoft's work and to listen to these magnificent pieces over and over and lean back and enjoy them...you've no idea how much I've ached to put music to words, pictures, movement...
Thank you so much for this. Might not seem like much to some but a thing like this just sets my heart ablaze. This OST just moves someone so much and just fills you with such a sense of wonderment and curiosity, fear and bravery at the same time. Music can do such strange things to the mind.
When I play Stellaris, I always have music volume cranked up. The music is a big part of the experience when playing it, and still is after over 600 hours.
Stellaris has the best BGM I have ever hear.
Would love to see the synth part being done live too...
Yeah, unfortunately i forgot to press "rec" on the camera when I recorded those parts. :D
@@andreaswaldetoft3345 Happens to us all lmao. I ounce forgot to press record 20 min into an interview....
Netflix or someone please pick it up as a TV show already, theres enough lore and music to make 10 seasons.
This feels like a score to Cosmos, not a video game soundtrack-- and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Born too late to die on a battlefield, and too soon to explore the space. But just in time to hear this masterpiece.
Hey don't jinx it for us others who wouldn't wanna be at a battlefield :D
@@Lattamonsteri If there were no more battlefields we would finally look up towards space
Tens of thousands have died on a battlefield since this comment was written.
@@beastman83532 yeah, still not too late i guess?
@@carlossantana4086 implying we wont simply drag the war to space....
So glad Paradox invested in their musical score! Distant Nebula my absolute favorite.
Andreas, you really should make more space OST for movies, shows or games. Stellaris is a great game because the music puts you in the game but the score itself is a true masterpiece. Once again, thank you for that, and for music for other games (such as Hearts of Iron, really inspiring too!)
Magnificent, goosebumps everytime; even after 3 years of listening to this masterpiece.
I so much love this song since I found it...but I never found a live performance. How come this one exists since 3 years and I never got to see it? Oh, life, oh, life...
Well, what can I say, this piece is an amazing poem about the greatness of universe, and about the journey of life to explore it and discover its marvels. Powerful, yet with a profound sense of soft flow...A masterpiece, so sum up. Glad to see so many people finding it as enjoyable. Happy new year 2023 for everyone!
Wonderfull. This is what i so love about the Soundtrack of Stellaris. It's real musik and not out of the tincan.
hahaha :D
How can someone be this talented? This is absolutely magnificent.
Simply beautiful. I always loved the build up on this. So worth listening through.
for the best experience:
1. have this song ready, don't play yet
2. find a SpaceX launch (e.g. the recent CRS-18 or a Falcon Heavy one)
3. when countdown reaches T- 4 min 41s, begin this piece
4. enjoy
(Taken from Thomas Chow on another upload of this)
This game's entire soundtrack is wonderful.
nemesis is great i really like it !
Dear Mr. Waldetoft, thank you very much for your work and the wonderful music you are giving us. I very much hope to hear more from you. Greetings from Germany to Sweden.
This was recorded in Germany! Thank you so much, I am pretty sure you will hear more from me as I am writing loads of music as we speak. Hope you get to hear it!
@@andreaswaldetoft3345 iam sure.
This made me wanna jump out of bed and play the crap out of Stellaris!
... I have no words ...
This is something to behold, something truly transcendent!
Man, can't help tearing up every time I listen to some of these iconic pieces.
Your music keeps me always coming back to the game. Stellaris wouldn't be the same without it. Wonderful and great work!!!
I've been on the fence of getting this game, you've just sold it. This is, pardon the pun, stellar. Thank you!
You are really talented! These games wouldn't be the same without your fantastic music in them. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, that mean so much for me.
Less game footage more orchestra please! I love watching the musicians!
Beautiful and thoughtful imagery there too. Really great stuff. 🌌
please Towards Utopia
I wonder if these people know they made the most beautiful music to a game.
It's amazing how this soundtrack weaves stories that haven't been told yet, truly incredible.
This Stellaris music is outstanding. Very good!! 😀😀
I watch this on a regular basis, especially when feeling exceptionally down, to remind myself that humanity is capable of extraordinary things when we put aside our differences and greed.
By the end I am usually ready to burst out the door of my tiny flat and sign up with the Greater Terran Union Navy and travel the galaxy in search of wonders, like a starry-eyed child seeing a true dark sky for the first time in his life.
TERRA INVICTA BROTHER!!!
Sensacional !!!!
Incrível, extremamente emocionante!!!!

playing this song while in starfield...
I trully stumbled on this "Stellaris soundtrack" randomly while listening to video games music. And What a surprise!! From the firsts notes, it absolutely caught my attention right away.
Stellaris soundtrack is wonderful. Thanks you very much for sharing such a beautiful art with us!
While I love the whole composition, and the entire soundtrack in general, the part beginning at 5:20 through to 6:00 absolutely sums up the wonder and excitement that I feel the game tries to encapsulate. Absolutely one of my favourite compositions from anything!
GUYS YOU MUST TRY THIS: play both this video and the “Falcon Heavy Test Flight” video at the same time such that 4:41 of this vid syncs with the rocket’s launch.
Thank me later!
I hope that one day, when humanity finally explores our galaxy, they can hear your music playing in their ships ❤️😊
Thank you Andreas, I keep coming back listening to these works of yours even when not playing. And your CK3 music is amazing. Thank you!
Fantastic... Beautyfull... Awensome...
But Faster then light - godlike
Thank you for recognizing the importance of good music in video games
Super cool to see that video footage of the orchestra, thanks for uploading! This track is my favorite from Stellaris; in the right mood, it can bring me to tears. That's the highest praise I can give to any art.
Game would be nothing without the soundtrack, for sure, so good.
No insult to the game mechanics, but you are right, the joy of Stellaris are the imaginative journeys we create through our actions in tandem with the atmosphere provided by the music, in same vein of the contemplation one has when listening to classical music.
@@callumcameron8115 I agree so much. It activates that part of the brain that makes you imagine and roleplay. I feel like a child again when I hear this stuff it's so moving.
Among the 4X and strategy game soundtracks and intros, this and Christopher Tin's Sogno di Volare are among the finest pieces of music I know. Both can be used as the calling cards for their games, as they evoke things about the games.
Wonderful soundtrack, Andreas.:)
With regard to the orchestra, did you put together synthesized mock-ups for David Christiansen to interpret, or write a kind of short score which he then helped to "colour in", or... something else? Am always intrigued as to where the line is drawn between composer and orchestrator/arranger when it comes to time-critical projects like this!
Best wishes from the UK :)
Sorry for late answer to such a great question. I do a mockup to get a "green light" on the piece, but all of the mockups are pretty much "complete". So all or most of the notes are the same as the live recording. What an orchestrator does for me is make it a bit more readable for all the instruments and sections, make it prettier so to say. Add some dynamics where needed, or an instruments for color depending on the particular orchestra you are going to use. My orchestrator knows more tricks then I do when in a live session. I hope I answer some of the questions.
@@andreaswaldetoft3345 Excellent response- thank you very much. :)
Incidentally, a few weeks back I was completely unable to get "Infinite Being" out of my head: if I had to pick a word to describe the oboe part, it would be "beseeching". :)
This truly is a beautiful piece of music.
You all are masters, I really love your work, I often listen this soundtrack when I do homework from the University, it help me to focus
Stellaris has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. It's a shame I couldn't get into the actual game.
Oof the strings at 4:35! Ecstasy!
Stellaris music is incredible in its own right
But this song, blows EVERYTHING away
This video just enhances an already awesome song
Better than many which have words, this piece deserves to be stored alongside other legendary scores
What a diamond....This is absolutely epic. I was reading Horus Heresy warhammer novel and had some music on the background, then this came up at 3:40 . Gods! The chills are still here. I consider myself a lover of epic scores and you mr Andreas are one of my all time favourite composers of all times. Epic, valiant, truthful score. Thank you
This is a masterpiece.
I just got Europa Universalis IV and I was amazed at the soundtrack almost immediately. Had to look up your work. I sincerely hope more people hire you. Your music has to be in many more games like that. Good work!
I mean this is great. But... nothing beats Riding the Solar Wind followed by Alpha Centauri, followed by Hostile Fleet Detected, followed by Robotic God, and then followed by Assembling the Fleet :)
I don't play Stellaris like other games. I listen to the music of Andreas and, accidentally, I play Stellaris. Same for Hearts of Iron or any other games where Andreas composed.
Ah, yes, the great music for ge... I mean... Dislocating alien life forms from the world of living to the afterlife... While "peacefully" appropriating their living spaces.
Mark this as the moment game soundtracks surpass films, i wish all games made this much effort, even though stellaris is already a great game, the sound track adds a whole new level of amazement.
I love ur music soo much. First heard it in victoria 2
Andreas, thank you so much. This music is truly a gift to the world. A soundtrack that will doubtless accompany my whole life.
Stellaris is in my opinion, the best 4X game i've ever played. And this game's soundtrack is a MAJOR contributor as to why I love it as much as I do
Awesome song, but the instruments sound just a bit off/artificial to me. Might be the recording/mastering? Until I came across it I thought it was really well-done layered keyboard work.
I wish the game felt this epic when played as the music is spectacularly good. They should make finishing quest, new anomaly discoveries and encounters FEEL significant. Sadly you feel like trying to run a spreadsheet hidden behind a facade. Maybe put some hooks in it so the modding community can throw in story content, even video and audio embellishments as people would go to town. As it is it feels more like a big interstellar wargame with lots of very long boring bits.
Truth is, I don't play the game that often... but I have been studying for aerospace engineering and just got the news that I got accepted into a master's degree in aerospace engineering in college and this is the main music that's been in my head in the past couple of months as I've been studying.
It is inspiring and I hope it helps me focus on this new challenge.
Thank you, Andreas.
Use the soundtrack to study and I have to say this is really what made me appreciate gaming music. This is just beautiful and really gives the awe of discovery
Breathtaking and beautiful, the music combined with glimpses of deep scenes took my breath away and tears flowed from my eyes. 10/10
This has always been one of my all time favorite sound tracks. Truly a phenomenal composer and ensemble. Great job to everyone!
every time when i hear this theme, my mind voice keep saying "system survey complete", "Construction complete", "Anomaly detected"
0:40 for the better part of a decade now, that, for me, has been Stellaris. Whenever I think of the game I hear that Oboe in my head.
It would be freaking awesome if Netflix or Paramount picked up Stellaris and did 8 episode series on this game, hopefully each season is a different universe that focuses on different empires and season finales are based on different crisis.
Magnificent. I have no other words.
Y los bendijo Dios, y les dijo: Fructificad y multiplicaos; llenad la tierra, y sojuzgadla, y señoread en los peces del mar, en las aves de los cielos, y en todas las bestias que se mueven sobre la tierra.
what a great musician and composer, I am an independent game developer someday I would like to hire your service 💪 in some future project 🙌
Didnt you guys go to budapest and record some of the music in that special concert hall there? What, was that? where was it? and footage?
this soundtrack makes you remember experiences you did not have.
Ah yes. Genocide simulator. My favorite game.
the moment when horns kick in ...shivers
This was quality. Not the new stuff with the Machine Age DLC.
This is very good, although I think Christopher Tin has the edge with video game music.
About 5:50 in starts to get really good
So beautiful! The Stellaris soundtrack always moves me to tears. Thank you, Mr. Waldetoft!
Inspiring, more of this on Яндекс.Музыка pls!
I love how the music writes a story: The beginning of life, aquisition of knowledge, exploration, first contact and: WAR!
amazing.... makes me want to crack a few planets with billions of xenos on them
This game taught me to be racist on aliens, would recommend 10/10
we need Stellaris Opera
Almost a decade and i still have goosebumps everytime I listen to this. Thank you so much !
"IT IS NOT YET YOUR TIME.... BUT IT COULD BE....IF WE WILL ONLY BRING FORTH THE END...."
I actually would love to see it live Orchestra. God that would be awesome.
I god damn love this composer, I wish I become like him at any cost and create my own great ones, so inspiring to create such music with that high level! ❤️
Cannot stop crying, so beautiful 😭❤️
When the time will come I will die I want this exceptional music will be played on my grave, and many many other will be played too, this taste of music by Andreas Waldetoft is so marvelous and precious for me, I feel composer truly loves his work as I love this works he does 😌😌😌 I hope he becomes much more popular, he deserves that I know it
