Hello, this may be a dumb question but can you use these for any type of music? Like blue grass? I’m a beginner so please forgive me. If not I did want to learn claw hammer too so i will pick one up when I can these look so good for a DIY banjo kit!
Thanks for the How-To! Got mine a few weeks ago. Nice craftsmanship! I'm impressed. OK, got my sandpaper, got my tung oil. I'm ready to put it together. I like that scroll. Do you sell those too? Thinking about doing some inlay stuff, but realized I would probably screw it up! Had to laugh when I saw the price went down after I bought it. Silly joke on me! :-) Wish me luck!
Glad you are liking the kit! I do sell the peghead scrolls on my site. I have been playing with the price a little on these kits. Send me an email and I'll send you a scroll at no charge since you didn't get the kit on sale. Carverbanjos@gmail.com
These friction pegs work very well to be honest. Consider violins have used the same pegs along with high tension steel strings for decades/centuries. Geared tuners can be used but it takes a bit of modification.
I really like these banjo kits and will probably purchase one soon. The only thing I don't like is the tailpiece. Does anyone know if there is another option, either offered by Carver Banjos or something someone else has done?
Sure. You can carve/cut one out of wood, attach it with soft wire to the rim. Or make one out of metal, maybe a piece of angled metal and attach it directly to the rim with a couple of wood screws.
Thank you!

Simple answer, yes. You can play a lot of the same songs, but not exactly in true bluegrass style, matched with other bluegrass band instruments.
In my case in I didnt glue the nut in case i want to change it. I dont think it's neccessary the string pressure do the job

Hey Brian, I see you put the nut on before the finishing oil. Is that to avoid having oil/stain going into the nut groove?
Could the tuning pegs be replaced with something newer? It seems like they will eventually start slipping and causing the strings to get out of tune.
