The fact that C.C. is opparating the Gawain and Lelouch basically just chills in the backseat is pretty cool
Yet another reason Tamaki is the most important character in the series, she took his remake about learn to pilot a knightmare to heart. Truly he is the unsung hero of the story
@@In-The-ZoneI believe C.C. has known how to operate a knightmare even before that, no?
@@l554446l This is the first time she's ever been shown in one, and she wasn't involved in the BB until after their last battle with Cornelia so there is no reason she would have used one. Remember only Kallen knew of her when they met with old man Kirihara.
@@In-The-Zone Ah, yes.
***SPOILER ALERT***
But, I mean, not because it's the first time we see her on it means she doesn't know how to pilot one before. I'm just leaning towards her knowing how to pilot one because she's lived for a very long time and she was in Britannia who developed well the Knightmares, not to mention has been a long companion of Marianne the Flash. So I just believe within the timeframe it's more likely that she learned it before, at least the basics of it.
***SPOILER ENDS***
CC is piloting and Lelouch is operating the Hadron Cannons
Fun Fact: Everyone knows that Gawain and Lancelot are knights from Arthurian legends, but did you know that they were friends? And did you know that they were also bitter enemies? Or also that Lancelot and Gawain have some things in common with Suzaku and Lelouch respectively?
Both Lelouch and Gawain are older brothers, are popular with women, have a sinful and unforgiving nature in some legends (in other legends, however, he is a knight with impeccable morals), walk a path of revenge, and were wronged by his best friends, Suzaku and Lancelot respectively. On the other hand, Suzaku and Lancelot are pacifists, virtuous, someone from royalty likes them, and in a way, they are traitors to their homeland.
At what point does Gawain and Lancelot's friendship end and they become sworn enemies? Well, when Lancelot kills Gawain's younger brothers, Gaharis and Gareth, while they are unarmed while rescuing Queen Guinevere from the stake. From there, Gawain swore revenge on Lancelot and challenged him at every opportunity, although he refused to finish off his dear friend.
What will happen to Lelouch and Suzaku? We will see.
P.S: In the end, Lancelot murdered Gawain using a sword known as "The Sword with the Red Hilt" and Gawain spared Lancelot with his dying breath.
There are tons of references to Arthurian Legends in this show, in fact, you could look at it as a retelling of Arthurian Legends itself.
@@AlicentviBritannia I did not know that was how Gawain died, but man. They could not have been less subtle about referencing that scene XD
Gawain looks like Anubis(the god of death/furry) and has black and gold look and had six wings, while the Lancelot is humna like with two wings like a angel. Also black vs white color scheme as well.
"I hereby command you to love me!"
"Right!" ......wait
🤣as much as suzaku/his philosophy irritate me at times, i do love him and euphie as a pairing. they're sweet together
also love the song that plays with the teamup. i love the soundtrack for this anime so much
Once again I want to thank everyone for helping Code Geass get selected. We're almost done with season 1. What a journey it has been. Can't wait to see their reaction to the ending of season 1 and the suprise of episode 22. Season 2 is going to be epic. They are going to truly see why this anime is goated. The iconic finale for this series is going to be memorable for us and this channel. Not just one of the greatest endings in anime but one of the greatest endings of all time in all of fiction
You are so right. Code geass is too underrated. Its one of the best anime i've ever seen. Do you think they will watch the second season too?
@@it_is_what_it_is_. Yeah definitely. They don't drop a series once it's selected and also they are enjoying the series so they'll definitely react to season 2
@@andrewkeshan8649 Thank you for your quick reply. Looking forward to seeing the reaction to the season finale.
Lelouch's relationship with Suzaku is definitely one of the most important in the show and every episode it just keeps getting more complicated. If the Lancelot were anyone else Lelouch would try basically anything to get rid of them, but he can't bring himself to do anything to Suzaku, even if it would greatly benefit him. And their relationship will just keep getting more complicated.
You guys should know that Clovis only hates and torments Japan because he thinks Japanese people killed Lelouch and Nanuly.
He loved them dearly.
And because Schneizel and Cornelia bullied him into being a cruel leader, despite his initial intent to rule with kindness so as to make the land where Lelouch and Nunnally died a peaceful and happy place. Euphy was about the only other person who liked that idea. Clovis' life is honestly a tragedy
Personally I noticed that in my 3rd rewatch
Yeah, it took me a couple rewatches to get that, seeing things from Britannian Royalty's perspective of losing close family. They could've shown this a bit more near the beginning of the series through flashbacks or something if they really wanted to drive that point home.
@@ununun9995Highly recommend the audio novel for code geass then.
All the voice actors return and it gives a lot of historic context to season 1-2 and really flushed out characters like Clovis.
if that's in response to them calling him a horrible person, I have to say I almost feel that information makes him *even worse*
So fun fact: When Lelouch out of panic geassed Suzaku he legit gave him arguably the most vague order possible to "live". Nothing specific, no duration mentioned, just a single word vague order. I don't think giving an explicit order to live to someone who has a death wish and is constantly on the battlefield in danger was the best idea.
Make of that what you will. I just find it interesting seeing the consequences of something like that happening.
It's definitely an important part of Suzaku's character development moving forward, and especially at the finale, but now try to imagine him at 90 desperately trying to extend his life even though he consciously knows that it's useless and that it's not even what he really wants. Kinda makes you hope that Geass gets cancelled before that happens huh
@@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian Oh I'm well aware having seen the series I just did not want to include any spoilers about it.
@@Luigi1000 Don't worry, Kenny and Montana don't read comments on youtube ^^
Its just like its the worst possible phrase for suzaku to be given as a soldier, but the only thing he wanted for his friend.
Sounds like Eren! No Eren sounds like lelouch
Seriously I know he doesn’t mean it in a negative way but it irritates me that they just assume the show they watched first started something.
@@kitkat7074 Or that Lelouch is a copy-paste of Light. That one is also very irritating
@@kitkat7074I don’t think they are making that statement, it’s just the content they consumed first so they make they associate it with what they know.
Code Geass suffered much the same with Death Note… People even summed it up as a series as Death Note with Mechs. Lol
I can’t believe we are nearly done with season one🥺
God I love the C.C and Lelouch thumbnail, they are such a power couple!
Except they aren't and never will be because the series and secondary material always defined their relationship as complicit and discarded any romantic feelings. Although if you want to ship them, regardless of the canon, it is another matter.
They are canon, they do end up together in the last movie, Lelouch of the resurrection, and that movie is canon.
@@user-dv8in9rt2g False. They are not canon. The film you mention is a continuation of a trilogy of films that constitute an alternative universe that does not affect the series. The series is the only canon.
@@AlicentviBritanniaIn the movie they kinda ended up together even though that's from alternative timeline
@@AlicentviBritannia i agree the movies are not canon though they are a nice universe, and regarding the feelings being discarded in season 2 I didn't see that at all. Their relationship never started but I do feel like they cared for each other more than friends in the end.
C.C. and Lelouch are the best couple of Code Geas 💞
Except they aren't and never will be because the series and secondary material always defined their relationship as complicit and discarded any romantic feelings (besides the fact that CC screwed Lelouch in endless ways that I'm not going to detail here and she never expressed regret for all the damage she caused him). Although if you want to ship them, regardless of the canon, it is another matter.
Love the music when Lelouch and Suzaku work together. One of the only songs to get used only once.
We're getting close...
People mostly overlook the importance of Nina's confession in this episode, and just treat it plain cringe. Truth is, her confession to Euphemia is essential for Euphemia to not hate herself and for Euphemia to realize that such self-directed hate is best countered when you have an advocate who declares your worth to them. This realization she used against Suzaku's self-directed hate thru an improptu direct line convo. That convo ended with Euphemia specifically commanding Suzaku to live, which prompted Suzaku that the Geass command for him to live is still very much in effect.
we talked a bit about Suzaku's supposed motivations versus the things he actually says in the comments of the previous episodes, and again in this one I ran into an example of it; when Suzaku says 'freedom has to come the right way, not like this'. That's completely different from 'I believe this resistance will only lead to the annihilation of Japan', which a few people said was his actual motivation. This quote alone shows that Suzaku *does* think it's possible to liberate Japan through other methods than his own; he just doesn't morally approve of those.
I think it more so shows that he's not really thinking about whether or not it's possible, just about whether or not it's right or wrong. While there's logic to support a lot of his viewpoints and actions, I don't think he is really thinking much about the true logic of it all most of the time. Obviously he has to use some logic, but to me he seems to prioritize his feelings of right or wrong far above any logical support for them.
Ironically, I think he's aware of this and doesn't like it. Preferring the logic of systems to individualistic emotions as he put it. He doesn't like the way he is, and he wants the system to keep him in check. At least that's how it appears to me.
We don't often get fun episodes like this, where most of what happens is nice and things get resolved at the end. Kind of them to do this after the last two episodes ended so awkwardly. But of course, this is just the calm before the storm. The season finale is drawing closer and closer after all.
Can't wait to see how you two react to the next arc!
EDIT: be careful if this is your first watch, people are posting spoilers in the replies.
Clovis may have been a bad person but doesn't mean was a bad brother.
I can't wait to see their reaction to that episode. It's close.
Oh its coming alright....
Yeah, it's gonna be a whole thing.
Oh yeah, that episode. I still remember when I first watched that episode, never wanted to flip a table more in my life.
I watched it recently and forgot they hadn't caught up so I was very confused when I saw certain people
@@Emre.55 I bet Nina could relate 😁
Since it's so often compared to Death Note, I think the major difference between Death Note and Code Geass is that, unlike Light, Lelouch cares about the people around him, friends and family. When Light's sister was kidnapped, his instinctive reaction was to kill her, but then he realized he couldn't because not enough people knew about her kidnapping, and killing her might give him away. To me, that was the moment when he became irredeemably evil.
You'll have to make your own judgements of Lelouch, but I definitely feel that he never quite hits the evil level of Light.
I know you guys don't like CLovis that much, but you have to know, the reason he acted the way he did, was because he was under the assumption that Lelouch and Nunnaly had been killed in Japan. And he loved his siblings so much he took his grief out on the country, which is never a good thing, but that was how he coped with the situation.
I mean, that's an incredibly shit reason for wanton murder. It's a good reason to perhaps do questionable things to get to the bottom of what happened to them, but it's a terrible reason to kill random people you _know_ had no actual part in it.
@@AStrangeWindmillin real life somebody who has a bad experience with a certain group of people can become racist to that certain group of people it's very common grief can cause logical thinking to go out the window
Regarding Euphemia, you have to remember that even though she is a good hearted girl, she is still Britannian royalty and will act as such even if she is Britannia with a softer face.
And everyone lived happily ever after, the end
Thank you for another awesome reaction! You guys are hilarious!!
Patreon members posted episode 22 questions in the episode 20 questions section due to an error? Oh no! I hope Kenny didn't give himself a big spoiler.
I will surely be an unpopular opinion. But I really miss Kenny's editing of Code Geass episodes. It shows that there is another person who is editing and it is not the same. It is hardly a pale imitation. The counters were fun back then, even if they weren't always correct, and watching the previews made me excited for the next reaction. In addition, Kenny had to rewatch the episodes when editing them and that allowed him to have a better understanding of them. Code Geass is one of those series that you need to pay close attention to. I'm sorry, I had to say it.
By the way, Kenny, if you're reading me, know that someone in the comments made a major spoiler. Be careful.
I get how you feel, so don't worry, you're not alone in this
Also, don't worry about the spoil, they don't read their comments on youtube

18:00 is the second most hype moment in the entire show, in my opinion.
About Nina: never underestimate the power of love.

oh good! Every thing is actually looking up for once, guess this is where things turn around and everyone gets some happiness and wins!
I just realized,
perhaps a little part of Suzakus desire to follow Britania is the "sunk cost fallicy" of him beliving he needs to uphold the results brought froth from his fathers death?
“I need you…I need your goodness.”
Phrasing!😂
Ohhh its coming... 💀
Many fans think that this episode is the worst of Code Geass. Or, at least, it's the weakest in the entire series. While it is true that there are other more exciting episodes, this episode is very decent, meets its objectives and manages to be entertaining enough. Personally, in this episode I find the psychological aspect more interesting than the political intrigue by presenting three characters with self-esteem problems.
1. Suzaku: It is vital to understand that Suzaku was traumatized when he took the life of his father and the invasion by Britannia further accentuated that damage. From that trauma, Suzaku built a rigid and extreme moral framework, shaped his current motivations and beliefs, and, above all, forged a negative perception of himself. Never mind that by ending the war prematurely he saved the lives of many people. Nor does it matter how many he has helped and saved in the present nor what good deeds he does in the future. He will never be enough for Suzaku because he doesn't feel enough. Suzaku committed a terrible crime and believes he will never be able to redeem himself. He considers himself a bad person and, in fact, the reason why he sticks to the rules is because he believes that he will avoid making mistakes that harm others, since the only time he broke the rules he became a murderer ( even though he did the right thing). Needless to say, Suzaku sees in Zero and his father everything that he represses and hates about himself. In Jungian terms, Zero and his father are a dark mirror to him. That feeling of inadequacy mixed with post-traumatic stress disorder, the guilt that it carries and the frustration that his situation generates, results in a person with low self-esteem. Due to his psychological problems, it is understandable that Suzaku has suicidal thoughts. In addition to that he judges it right to die according to his moral standards.
That's why Euphemia's declaration of love is cutely wholesome since she's telling him that she loves him and she accepts him for who he is, even though Suzaku doesn't. Suzaku finds no reason to continue living, but Euphemia encourages him to do so by giving him a purpose for living. You also have to give the boy credit since he is struggling with his inner demons and doesn't want any of them to hurt Euphemia. There is no doubt that Euphemia and Suzaku have one of the healthiest relationships in the series.
(By the way, Euphemia did not activate the order to live. It was activated automatically because Suzaku was in a life or death situation. I suppose Okouchi wanted her words to coincide with the activation so that the viewer would remember/know that the order towards Suzaku had been permanent. It is also worth clarifying that Lelouch did not give him the order because he feared for his friend's life: in the heat of the moment he was thinking of saving his own skin and that was what occurred to him unfortunately)
2. Euphemia: Throughout your reactions, you have theorized that Euphemia would become a leader. The reality is that her narrative arc is focused on bringing out the best version of herself. Euphemia's problem is that she doesn't have enough confidence in herself. You can see that she needs the permission or approval of her siblings to act, rather than doing what she knew was right. The times she simply acted on her heart were on impulse. Hence, she sees herself as useless for whom nothing goes well. Talking to Nina made her realize what she wants to do, as well as her power to inspire others. She wants that for Lelouch, Nunnally, Suzaku and the rest of the Japanese. Her words at the end express a human desire rather than a political objective.
Hard agree with your entire comment, except for the parenthesis' contents. You say that Lelouch was only trying to save his own skin and accidentally ordered Suzaku to live. I say that if that was the case, he would instead have gone for something like "Save me" or "Let me go". That the first thing that came to his mind was "Live" betrays how deeply he cares about Suzaku's safety, at least on a subconscious level, though probably also on a conscious one as well. I mean, besides all the times he finds a roundabout way to spare him between his reveal as Lancelot's pilot and the moment he tricks him into another Gefjun Disturber during the Black Rebellion, he did plan to *use* Nunnally, the one person he otherwise would never have thought of using or manipulating, to give Suzaku a reason to live. Ironic that Euphy took that place all by herself, in addition to making Suzaku her knight rather than Nunnally's as was the other half of Lelouch's plan. Makes you think back on him telling her that she was his worst enemy huh? ^^
P.S.: While it's not as direct a translation of the original line as the English version, I like that in the French dub, Lelouch says "You have to live!". It's definitely not as subtle or up for interpretation as both the Japanese and English dubs, but I like the idea that Lelouch would be so worried about Suzaku that he would forget about his own life for a moment and say something like that
But still I don't like Suzaku, a hypocrite with unrealistic half-baked beliefs
One of the Greatest Team Ups In Anime History
I'm sorry guys.
This is the best episode by a million miles. Ofc, it couldn't be what it is without the episodes before it
Another great episode can't wait for more
We're already at eps 20. From here on it's going to be epic so brace yourselves
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Suzaku said. Especially against Sawasaki whose methods will change nothing and Japan will only see itself enslaved under a different country but with hundreds of thousands of people dead on top of it.
No more next episode previews?
Nina and Euphemia are just like me in a way. Sometimes i feel like there is nothing good about me, and i wish i was like my siblings. I worry constantly about the most trivial of little things, like the fact i am prone to acne, and i feel like i am just being annoying (which i know i am sometimes, but we all get on each others' nerves at times) and am not perfect, just average. Ok, i hate Nina but the fact Euphemia wishes she could be more like Cornelia or Schneizel i can often relate to. The fact that she could talk to someone she admired (i won't say nice because it's Nina) about her feelings and the way Nina felt the same way too was very nice. Whenever i try and talk to my family they don't understand and tell me to stop talking about it, which i think is cruel, i am just trying to open up to my parents about my feelings. If you or your husband have similar worries or problems, hopefully you understand each other. I sometimes wish my mum or dad had the power to erase my memory so i wouldn't have trivial things on my mind, just like Lelouch erasing Shirley's memories of Zero. Everyone gets emotional, just look at Shirley getting so upset and frustrated that she ended up shooting Lelouch! Not to mention Lelouch and CC don't always see eye to eye with one another (Lelouch calling CC annoying witch for example). But if we had the power to erase any bad memories or upsetting thoughts, we would start afresh with a smile!
Edit: i do like myself, but i hate myself sometimes because i worry too much.
Oh boy...

I’ve said this elsewhere buuut For those enjoying these reaction videos be they new or old fans I cannot recommend the Audio Drama enough for Code Geass.
All the voice actors reprise their roles and it does so much to flush out the history and a lot of the motivations of some of the side charterers past and present.

this anime is perfect for all the shit that's going on in the world
Their world or our world?
Always left Suzaku was getting on his high horse again a bit with this episode. Maybe these officials are cowards whatever but you it's a fairly normal thing to do in world history. Government officials leaving their invaded nation in hopes of coming back to liberate it later, happened tons of times so I never felt this criticism was very deserved. As for Lelouch he is motivated purely by ego and wanting to control the movement I'd be fine with it if he was just honest. That's my only nit-pick beyond that love the episode.
I know right? And it's so funny to see Lelouch, one of the biggest hypocrites around, pretend that he fights for the real Japan when he just wants to make sure he has no rivals, and in the process, goes from constantly challenging the bullshit views of Suzaku, *the* biggest hypocrite around, to feeding his self-righteous beliefs and spurring him on to obeying orders from his Brittanian masters, which then leads to a pretty effective one-time team-up. Accidental genius, or masterful manipulation? There's a question for ya ^^
@@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian Yeah that parts annoying to. Completely switching tactics and reinforcing Suzaku's ego at a time when that's a very bad idea. @@alex.9398 Well, he could never allow someone else to challenge or compromise his position as Japan's one and only messiah, not even the leaders of Kyoto. So it does make sense to me that he would completely change his tune so long as it let's him neutralise a threat to his authority
