And not least, your personality seems so chill and friendly. Matt, the stuff on your channel is just priceless. Thanks for taking the effort!

@unarmed blackman This is a great insight. I have never heard anyone put it in that context. I had a DX7 in the late 90's and I always thought that it was thin and kind cheesy sounding. Placed in the proper historical perspective though, you are totally correct. The DX7 had the power to replace all the keyboards of the era and then some. No wonder it was such a game changer.

My advice is to pick something that you like and copy it. Use the youtube's playback speed to help you and go over and over until you have it. Get a metronome up and and run it as slow as you need to to get through, say the first bar, or even the first half bar. Gradually ramp it up until you've got it up to speed, then move on to the next section. Then play them back to back, and so on. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can progress. It's taken me about a week or so to go from "What the heck is he even playing there" to, as of last night, just about being about to play the groove at 6:05, with just the very last part at the end now always ending up sloppy for me. Another couple of evenings and I hope to have it fully nailed :)

Love your Masterclass. So much useful funky Clavinet information in one place. It's interesting that that the Clavinet and the Hammond organ are the two keyboard instruments which demand to be approached in a specific way.
