How to Calculate and Interpret a Correlation (Pearson's r)

  • This video covers how to calculate the correlation coefficient (Pearson’s r) by hand and how to interpret the results. Here we use the 'definitional formula' for calculating the correlation, as it is the easier of the two methods. It also makes more sense intuitively than the computational approach to calculating the correlation coefficient.

    Love the constant reassurance: "it seems complicated but it's not that bad, let me walk you through it" Yes please walk me through it.

    Thanks for the Calculations of the Correlation (Pearson's) that was awesome. I am really excited, it's very hard to understand when I see it in the first time. But when I got into it. That's easy to understand. Thank you so much.

    Thank you so much, I cannot say why but I've had a hard time with this and some of the explanations went over my head, this was very simple and easy to understand the process. I have done a little tottering in math and I'm sure you cannot please everyone. This process really gets you on the ground and if you feel you need to go deeper you will be ready to handle it. Thank you again.

    Don't you have to divide the standard deviation by n-1 before square rooting it, so it would be SSx/n-1 ie, 10/4. Also for the final formula the denoinator includes n, making it n*SSx*SSy

    • @almezamorra1021
      @almezamorra1021 3 роки тому

      He just simplified everything. Since if you divide SSx by n-1, that would basically mean that you would have to use Covariance instead of Cross Sum. What he did is basically cancelling n-1 from the numerator and the denominator.

    The thing is, how do you find N? On the table there is (3,5), but I don't see the reason why the 5 of the third term, is N. It doesn't look to be a mean to anything either. Or, what is N really?

    so i added up the varience that's the the deviated numbers and tried squaring them but they'er not giving me the same X value, i've made sure of it to know where the error is from but i'm obviouslly correct because i've cross checked more than 7 times now.
