Spring Skimmer Fishing | In Session | Jamie Hughes | Match Fishing
We join Jamie at Birch House Fishery on Lake One to take a look how he goes about putting together big weights of Skimmers and Bream on a commercial venue as the weather starts to improve. Fishing with expanders and pellets rather than the more traditional groundbait approaches you might expect.

Wednesday is officially the best day of the week now.
I'm the same with the lined up joint alignment arrows... OCD 🤣🤣🤣👍
Just love watching your videos every week not forgetting Rich, these videos get better and better thanks guys for keeping me sane in this lockdown, stay safe 🤗
So much information and so much learnt. Thank you so much guys.
When I was a kid, John Wilson was the man. and have taken over nicely!
come on the fishy’s
As I’ve said on numerous occasions you lot are a joy 🎣😀🎣
Just purchased my new fishing cap and hopefully getting it signed, you two are by far the best duo on UA-cam. Can't wait to get bankside again 'come on the fishies'
I fish birch house all the time what a good fishery
Love this sport .... every day is a school day
Nice. Birchhouse is about 15 minutes from home for me, so this is really useful
And another great video! Cheers me right up!
Thanks for some great advice, i tried this at Barston and picked up 32lb from peg 93 !! 2nd in sec, so thanks again 👍👍
Another great video guys keep them coming
Great explanation jay keep them coming n good luck you guys this year in big matches 🤞🤞
great vid lads excellent tuition, opened my eyes lads well done
So interesting and informative Thank You.
As usual a great video with lots of insight from a class angler..
Jamie/Andy - for a novice could you please do a short on the different types of fish that you talk about - Skimmers, IDs, Eids, F1s etc - would be really helpful - thanks
Great video guys 👍😎
I’ve been fishing recently with micro pellets and different dyes and flavourings in general. I’ve had a lot of bites and caught some decent fish but I would like your opinion on whether you think this actually attracts and catches more fish? Would it be a good suggestion if you could do a video on one of you fishing with dyes and flavourings and the other fishing normal pellets etc… but the same method of fishing to see the outcome? Just an idea.
Thankyou
Great video something to try tomorrow at Aston Park Fisheries
Going to try this guys 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Brilliant vid as always, uffff I would love to see you on the bank at Birch House, I missed you😞, I hope one day I will be able to meet you and have a photo with you 🙏
At 7:00 it looks like the producer has a single bore shotgun to Jamie’s head … I thought he liked doing these videos 🤣 great video I need to adapt this for rod and line though. 👍
Just opening to winter fishing
Questions to you Andy what you would do on river when running that clear on winter. Are you will think to use just maggots or you use bread punch where you know there is not much small chubs about.
C'mon the skimbobs!
Do you have a video on catching skimmers on pellets, but not on a commercial lake, just a normal natural lake
Really enjoying and learning a lot from your(and Andy's) videos. As I'm new to poles and pellets I wondered if the hook bait was put directly on the hook or in a band. Also what hook length did you use?
Thanks.
Professional video
fantastic!! was Jay using the green 8-10 slik?
Can you get Jamie to expand on his hook bait expanders and the gelatine idea please? How much do you use and do you still soak them first?
They were the ready done ones from Spotted Fin 👍🏻
And he meant glycerin not gelatine for doing your own
Watch riches less prep video (3 Months ago) winning ways
Shows how to prep expanders with glycerine TOP TIP - works
Great video and demostration but one question wouid you stick to one size of expander or would you go up or down a size if required and when?
4mm to match the pellets you're feeding.
Great vid. Can I ask how you target skimmers in a natural environment with what bait and loose feed please?
Probably go down the more natural route of groundbait, maggots, chopped worm etc.
Jamie did not mention his main one and hook-link size he uses for his skimmer fishing, hook size also? Brilliant video, maybe the best to date as its right up to date with the present style of pole fishing, well done guys.
He said its a Matrix mxc-1 size 16
You're right about line diameter tho 🤷♂️
Just whatever you normally use for silvers, when it’s as good as that no need to go mega light. 0.10-0.12 hooklength. 0.16 mainline.
Fantastic video J. How do you treat the pellets with gelatin ?
Really enjoy these Lads many thanks, However does that float really need to be dotted to that extent
If you want to see bites then yes 💯
How do you avoid the carp, or were they edited out??
I've subscribed. Just want to know is this for commercial fishing only cos, I don't fish any 🤔
This approach is specifically for commercial skimmer fishing where they are used to seeing a lot of pellets
Will this work this time of year mate??
How come you haven't been carped, excellent video after a crap result at a silvers match.
hve club mch in weeks time on skimmer venue thts commercil they respone to pellet will give your pn try
Where can you actually buy Tim Moores floats from?
He’s on Facebook facebook.com/tim.moores.73
come on the fishy’s!!!!
Can't fish quick with a pot you say.. go and have a day with Mr sensas Stu Redman. Lightning fast pole pot or not
I’s Jamie fishing at 11 m?
Great video as usual but when is Andy going to do some fishing instead of just sitting there like a man servant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎣🎣
Nice fishery, shame about the owner screaming and shouting at people for simply parking their cars not how he wants them too, wont return
