Hey Scott, Been lurking and watching your videos for years. Especially those first few years ago with technique breakdowns and training programs... Good to see a natural athlete up there and motivating! Much respect from Australia.
Scott! Your content is so helpful and insightful
I was just needing a refresher on this. Thanks.
Great tips Scott. Will definitely try using them tomorrow at the gym
Excellent video, imo one of your best Scott
Thanks for the tips, they really work!
As always great content 👏👍🏻
I'm so early the comments are just getting staaahted
Great tips 🔥💪😁 Thanks for sharing!
This was the most short yet useful tip on core bracing ive ever got.
Good info !
This is the best lifting channel on the internet for nattys, baaah none (with the exception of possibly Brad Castleberry).
Lol, thanks for the kind words my friend!
Hes the grandfather of youtube fitness
All great tips, but I’ve found the hip placement/movement and proper bracing are the most common issues not done properly for most people. Great video Scott!
First minute, first tip! Amazzzzing!
Amazing tips
Glad you liked the video Darren!

Great vid Scott like the old days, I find my stance has narrowed now which feels a lot better and doers able me to lift more👍🏻
Let’s go Scott you the realest on UA-cam fitness by far👌 keep it up!
Very helpful! I hope I break through my PB!
Foot positioning and not having one fluid movement were my two issues. Gonna try this out tonight, much appreciated sir!
Very informative video. I realized my feet aren't close enough. Got some practicing to do...Thanks for posting!!
Thank you I can't wait to get to do deadlifts again!
Will try
Starting a powerlifting program next week so this helps. Thanks Scott.
You're welcome man!

I've been doing a wider stance with deadlifts. Now I know why I've been feeling weak in my lift
The foot positioning is so true as I starting climbing in weight the closer my feet got closer
Scott can you do a video on essential equipment to start a home gym??
I definitely needed this video about 2 days ago when I was doing banded deadlifts …
Instantly helped my working sets W
Hey Scott! Could you do some videos about trap bar dead lifts pros/cons, or other exercises you can do with a trap bar?
Great tips! Going to try them tomorrow
Awesome! I hope they help you!
Hey Scott I've been watching some of your old vids and damn, you've gotten bigger.
Hey scott i don't know if you'll read this or not but i really gotta thank you. Applied the things you suggested in my deadlift session today and freakin hit a PR.😁
Just hit a 545 deadlift a few days ago. Gonna shoot for 600 next.
You hit 600 yet?
@@papi69yepes9 yes. I got it in November
Hey Scott, great info as always. What shoes are you wearing?
And remember.. DON'T MOVE THE BARBELL
Haha!
It's pronounced Bah-bell
Great video! Any chance of one for Squats???
I've been doing it in two steps because that's what Jeff Caveliar said to do in his old deadlift video 0.0
I always fail after the first hip raise and feel like my lower back will fail. Thanks for the tip Scott!
Happy to help my bro!
Been waiting for this ...I'm working on my deadlift form.
Let me know how the tips help you and be sure to check out the more involved/detailed video on deadlift form in my pinned comment!
@@ScottHermanFitness thanks 🙏
Damn, why are you making me miss the gym Scott? That's torture
Dude I just started going again yesterday after about 9 months off... it feels like torture.
Perfect timing, i will just miss another deadlift gym session tomorrow. Gyms are still closed here.
Sorry to hear that man. Hope they get open again soon!
@@ScottHermanFitness Thank you! Vaccines are here (Hungary, Middle-Europe), so i hope within a couple of weeks gyms will open.
Perfect timing, doing dead’s rn
Maybe this is unrelated but I just want to help people. I really got my dead lift into the mid 500s by focusing strictly on hamstring and Gluth activation. I started doing pause squats heavy and dead lifting from a deficit and it made a tremendous difference as a natural athlete.
Great vid Scott 👌 How's training going at the moment?
Thanks Sam! It's going good thanks!

Just gonna roast me in the thumbnail like that lmao
Plz make same video for squat
Best way to learn about proper form is the small channels on UA-cam that explain body mechanics for lifting in detail. It helped me lot to get rid of pain because everyone has a different physique and have to find what's right for you.
nice info there. One question: i think i heard you say using a footstance that's too narrow could bust your kneecaps what happened to that?
I dont think I’ve ever said that. Maybe I talked about having a stance that was too wide so that forced your knees to push out your arms as you grab the barbell?
do these tips apply to hexbar deadlift as well?
Scott why do I have trouble getting into position from the beginning but wen I deadlift my core my body gets in a good position to deadlift safe flat back and drive Thru my hip drive
is switch grip a good or bad idea?
As a New Zealander whose country is not in lock down - will try this today.
Let me know how it goes! Get that form tight!
Cheers man for this and also do you think its better to deadloft or power clean?
Deadlift
Nice
Why donot you do some Q&A videos man.....your stuff is pretty good
Following his videos for squat and deadlift helped me to add 40kg at least in a short time, and because of him I can squat 180 + kg without fearing to break my spine.
Do me a favor please, I need a follow up for bench press I couldn't do more than 120kg since a long time ago.
Will see if I can make a similar video for bench press my bro! Awesome work with your lifts!
@scotthermanfitness - didn't know you were in a movie with Bob Deniro. Surfing on a bus and all!
haha yeah man! I was a SWAT TEAM CAPTAIN! Shaved my head and everything!
I'm a simple man. I see a Scott Herman deadlift video, and i click thumbs👆
It’s good to see Scott put out real content again
Edit, throwing back to his previous style of doing a lot tip videos
Thanks scott but i usually skip deadlift and leg day.
One for my fellow long torso, short limb friends: Narrow your heels and point your toes out more than everyone else so you can finally pull conventional when you want to without having issues getting your low back neutral. Used to think I could only pull Sumo until a coach showed me this.
Glad you're able to smash those conventional deadlifts brah!
What do you think about dead-lifting with your back intentionally to target your lower-back ( while maintaining a 100% straight spine and no rounding ) ?
4:15 "figure out just how much AIRR-you can bring in"
I need all the help I can get cause my deadlift sucks.
Hey Scott, Deadlift is an exercise I left for a long time ago. I don't do it in the correct way and afraid to damage my back. Lower back issues are commonly a returning problem for me.
Learn to do it the right way and it will strengthen your back.
using the starting strength setup will automatically set your hips at the correct height. you can roll your shoulders/pack your lats at the bottom just fine!
Great stuff I had squats and deadlifts today. I work with a trainer 1x per week and today was that day. He said my deadlifts are clean other than my head positioning I was looking up. He corrected that and had me look straight down. My level of hamstring and glute activation went way up!! Great video as always Scott. Also my weight went up today I got 215lbs for my 10x5!
Should i deadlift on leg day or on Upper body day?
On leg day
I do either, usually on pull day, but sometimes when I skip it that day I’ll fit it in with legs right before squats. I do sumo
Good question since it obviously hits both areas, and this can be personal preference to some degree. I usually do it on leg day, & generally recommend my clients do the same, but there have been exceptions to that.
Both
Doesn't really matter imo
l recommend using straps, alternating grip puts your underhanded arm in position for bicep injury...tear your bicep and your out of the game 4-6 months after surgery
im at 160lb and stuck at 405lbs. What could I do to improve? I already tried everything in this video.
Hey I am 15 and benching 230 and deadlifting 500 these tips have got me up to 530 Any tips on how to increase bench.
Scott, I am like flat-footed and have to wear orthotics in my shoes. Do you think squat shoes would help me improve my squat because I would have more stability at my feet?
Generally squat shoes will help anyone with their squat, so it's definitely worth a try man!
@@ScottHermanFitness thanks, when I get a job and have money I’m going to buy some lol
@@anthonyromzek1121 A simple way to get similar benefits of squatting shoes is to put small weight plates underneath your heels when you squat. Then you can get a sense if you like lifting like that
@@Henry-ko3po thank you
You should definitely teach VShred
Wow 👏
what straps is Scott using in this video?
I have the link and a discount code in my pinned comment bro!
I tried your weight for deadlifts yesterday. Now, Im dead, thanks.
Scott powerlifting now???! I'm here for it
I wouldn't say powerlifting. But I like to lift HEAYY on deadlifts!

Holy cow this dudes belt was way too tight... It's not supposed to be a corset!! Great video!
For my foot position i set up as if I'm trying to achieve a max box jump
Use hook grip it’s cool and you stay symmetrical
Scott can you do the same for the Bench?
PS: Great vid as usual!
It worked, I just raised my deadlift by 200 pounds !
In 1 minute of the video coming out?
Thats it? PATHETIC! Mine went up by 201 lbs
@@bob-kq6xl mine went up by 201.1 lbs

@@ScottHermanFitness thanks
I’ve never felt comfortable with the belt. Does that hinder the amount of weight I can lift?
Not at all. If anything it will help you lift more weight. It does take a bit of getting used to if you've never trained with one before though
@@ScottHermanFitness awesome! Thanks man!!
Straps: Long/short vs fit/pro what was your showing today Scott ? ;)
Let’s get stahhted!
Check out Nathaniel Massiah. He claims natty at and he recently turned 18, he hit a 672lbs deadlift a while back and he only weighs 89kg.
To anybody watching this who is new to deadlifts I would recommend looking at starting strength. They explain it better
i bought a lever belt and just like everything i have ever worn, i was between two sizes. The holes i have it on now are juuuuust too shy of being perfect, and going for the tighter holes i cant close it lol. FML
180x5, 182.5x5, 185x5 187.5x5, 200x3, 215x2 and a max of 235 (kilograms). Trying to get to a max of 240 kilograms before new years day.
Deadlift day is tomorrow. I let you know how your technique works with a 69 yr. old lifter.
Noice
and ?
Start today brothers (after a slight health issue).
PEACE
That thumbnail really shattered my soul lmao
I thought Alan Thralls tutorial was enough to get me deadlifting with good form. Now I feel that I`m back in square one and doing it wrong. I dont know who to believe anymore.
Currently consistently at 330lbs, hopefully can reach to 405lbs with belt
