  • Courthouse Rock Adventure: Stuck Halfway, Had To Downclimb And Find Another Route
Welcome to Ultimate Survival Gear! In today's adventure I wanted to test my trail running skills on the kind of trail I never ran on before, as well as some route finding and climbing skills. Gotta say, what a joy it is to trail run at Red River Gorge. It is hard to stay focused on the trail because you just can't stop looking around and observe the beauty all around you.
The trail itself was about 2 miles one way, with some pretty cool features. Here is the trail: www.alltrails.com/trail/us/ke...
I did manage to somehow get off trail, but luckily I had service on my phone pretty much throughout the whole trail, including on top of the Courthouse Rock, so I was able to navigate my way back to the trail junction and go the right way. Also met cool couple on the trail, who helped me confirm the correct turn.
Once I got to the Courthouse Rock I was greeted by the East or SE ridge , which looked amazing, cutting through the rays of the sun, I could climb on both the sunny side and the shady one. I was so excited to climb that I forgot to close my backpack. As I got about the third of the way up, possibly closer to the half mark, I found myself struggling to find solid footholds to continue ascending. I did see some possible hand holds, which I would have to pull myself up to and commit to without a possibility of retreat, but the remainder of the route did not seem easy enough for me to climb without protection, so I decided to find another route. The downclimb wasn't easy, but doable.
Cool song from Delta Heavy delivers the perfect expression of the dynamics of the day.
Anyway, thanks for watching! God bless!

    Awesome !
I used to climb many years ago... My brother and I climbed the Grand Teton via the Upper Exom Ridge... We also did Prodigal Son on Angels Landing in thirty six hours car to car... I can't help but mention our first summit of a big wall via Spaceshot on The Leaning Wall, the latter two both in Zion National Park.
Those were some of the best times in my life, but glory awaits ! Amen !
God bless you and yours brother

That sounds like some awesome adventures! I've been looking at Grand Teton and Zion Park, but I need to do more research on routes there, hoipefully will be able to visit one day. I think I have Capitol Peak in Colorado calling me next, but we'll see where God brings me! God bless!

"Every time you take a step in the direction where you're supposed to be going. Where God is calling you. Then you will definitely see and feel his blessings." The next second he thinks he hears a grizzly bear behind him. Would have been so funny if God decided to call him home right then and there and we got to see it all happen on video. 7:36

Thanks for your comment, it is a good example of how world of the flesh corrupts our minds, thinking that you know what other people think because you yourself are thinking that and calling an animal attack funny. Well, I invite you to step outside, because when you do, you will find out a few things like for example, that there are no grizzly bears in Kentucky, or that bears don't climb cliff faces. But the best part, is that you will no longer be afraid. I am more comfortable around wild animals than around people that find death funny, let alone who want to see it on camera. You need saving man, and Jesus Christ can save you.
