Matthew crawley is absolutely wonderful. I like his underplayed technique. In fact all the actors are fantastic. I have to keep watching again and again in case i have missed anything.

The week of Christmas 2022 I was hospitalized with double pneumonia and their cable channels were lousy.
I used my phone to stream Peacock channel and Downton Abbey was there. My cousin and daughter had been telling me for years to watch it.
Well … I started watching and now I can’t stop! I’m on my fifth time watching it … every single season & episode. It’s such a great show … the story lines, the music, the characters, the scenery, castle etc.
I was glad to get home if only to be able to watch it on my TV!
I remember hearing Matt Damon say his wife was addicted to Downton Abbey … like crack cocaine addicted!! LOL I am in that same category.

I agree with you Summer, Downton has ruined other shows for me too. Other shows just don't stack up with great acting or writing or production.
But never mind I am happy to watch it again and again.
I am so sorry you ended up in the hospital with double pneumonia. It's definitely a great show. I watched a lot of cartoons while I was sick in 2022.

By the way, I’m still watching it but just not exclusively.

I went back to look at her smile an laugh after I read your comment. Not only does she have a beaufitul smile, but it is one of those heartwarming smiles that makes you feel good inside.

Julian is right of course the best character is the House/Castle.
There was a pull bell for the "saloon"? Was there a saloon in the Manor??? Raucous piano playing, poker games, "ladies of comfort", and pistol fire?? How did I miss these scenes??? :)
"Evil" Barrow vs "evil" O'Brien:
Barrow recognized the evil of Nanny West, brought it to Cora's attention, and saved the children ‐especially Sybbie!- from Nanny West's abuse. He also helped Lady Edith during the fire. His actions are definitely far from angelic throughout the series, but he's got some redeeming qualities in there somewhere.
O'Brien left a bar of soap on the floor where a pregnant Cora was bathing, leading to Cora slipping on the bar of soap, falling, and having a miscarriage. O'Brien did seem to have second thoughts, but too little too late. What kind of person wouldn't have picked up the soap in the first place? No one is pure evil, but imo, O'Brien has few redeeming qualities, and they're buried deep. I'd say that O'Brien and Lady Flintshire are well-suited to each other. 😂

I really loved the Ivy/Alfred/Jimmy/Daisy love triangle. It was great to see "normal" people just flirt with each other as opposed to the highborn aristrocrats courting each other

When someone talks low it's hard to understand them.
Without doubt, the actors and actresses are wonderful. But, the wonder is generated by Julian Fellows, his team of writers AND the excellent production team team of artisans, sound and vision engineers and all the other members of the production team (including the finance department slaves!) who are the secret of the series success.
Why did you kill Sybil and Matthew ?
Because both actors wanted to leave.
Dan stevens told Julian at least a season ahead of time, he wanted to leave.
They both wanted to do films. Each of their first films were pretty awful. Dan narrates some audiobooks, now.
@@mrsmacca126 Dan Stevens left Downton Abbey in 2012. If you google you can see the large body of work he's done since he left.

Yeah, maybe it's a UK thing, but a grown man saying tummy to other adults (rather than stomach or belly) seems odd & both the actor & his character do it. In the USA tummy is a word used by and with children. Kids get tummy aches, adults don't.
I’ve heard Americans talking about “going to the potty”, meaning going to the toilet, but in the UK only little children use a potty.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I love and adore Shirley MacLaine, but the way they had her made up was just horrible.
I find Shirley Maclaine's inclusion unfortunate, a rampant vulgar ego on the rampage.
First Mr.Bates, then him again, then his wife! Has this fellow called Fellowes anything against the name Bates? The persecution of this couple is repetitive, monotonous, and stupid, not to say cruel. Why couldn't he choose some other character to turn his malevolence on? Shame on this fellow.
