I bought lip on ebay about 60€ for months ago. I costs me about 3 hours of work to fits it perfectly. Im happy that its not only me. I wanted plastic lip, not fiberglass, because of scratches. Really like your videos, Greetings from Slovakia.
Thanks very much! Yes that was the reason I wanted a plastic one as well. My car is lowered so I'm constantly scraping it on speed bumps. It would have been destroyed by now if it was fibreglass :)
Hi Rob, one story I heard was that these were already fit to the cars when first imported into UK. They were getting damaged whilst driving them off the off the ships due to the angle of the slopes. That’s why they stopped installing them sadly. Love the videos mate.
I was going to put one on mine but decided not to for the speed hump thing. They do look good though, it’s the MX-5 World record attempt at Elvington this Sunday. Looking forward to it.
I think in theory they help push more air towards the brake discs to help keep them cool, but the moulding on these replica parts is a bit rough and they don't fit together very well. Quite honestly I don't think it's worth the hassle of trying to fit them
I just did mine in the last hour and didn't use 'em either....I could see loosening a few bolts and slipping em in, but....eh.....not worth the hassle right now.
Yes, I will probably do that at some point. the bottom of the bumper seems to have sagged a bit over the years though so it would need to be a very strong bond to hold it in place and not break again. I almost wonder if the car had a fender bender at some point which has deformed the bumper a bit.
I'm in London, but the car was only imported from Japan a couple of years ago. They don't salt their roads like we do here so the cars are much better preserved. This one was like new underneath when I got it, and I then had it professionally undersealed straight away so hopefully it will remain well-preserved :)
I did pay a bit more for the privilege, yes. But the way I see it, I could have spent less money on a car already in the UK, but it would have been very likely that I would have needed to do some rust-prevention maintenance on it at some point. I can't weld myself, so I would have had to pay someone to do it for me, in which case it's quite likely that in the end I would have spent the same or more on getting the car to a rust-free standard.

Fascinating! That makes a lot of sense. I've found mine is very easy to catch on curbs and speed humps if I'm not careful

"Job done!" helpful narration & walkthrough -- I felt your pain ;-)
Just got myself a cheapie ebay R-style, now I'm ready to install -- thanks.
Good look, certainly improves the look. I went with the GV lip on my NA Mk1.... and then a supercharger :P
Cheers! Yeah it's a slippery slope - today some new floor mats, tomorrow a V8 turbo :)
can you send the link of the lip? thanks
nice.
What's up with the duct top covers? No-one seems to use them....

pretty sure you are supposed to first bolt up the sides instead of the middle
That might explain the struggle then 😄 Although I'm pretty sure the directions I got with it told me to do it like that
Plastic weld them clips that are broke

Where are you from, I can't get over how there's zero rust.

Keeping it washed after a drive I the winter is key I guess.
Is it expensive to import.
