As soon as I heard this song come on, I remembered it immediately and played it over and over many times - tapping the drumbeat on the steering wheel, the whole time…!! It is now my mother/son song to my son who moved 1,100 miles away - letting him know I am thinking of him and sending love and happy vibes in secret messages, through the air. 💖

The whole album was unjustly overlooked because of the rash of synth-pop artists dominating the airwaves. Jeff Lynne simply knew how to write and produce songs.
I was on a Greyhound bus heading to Toronto in the early eighties and I plugged this cassette into my walkman. I didn't know much about ELO. I was alone looking out the window at the rain and this song was so orchestral, so beautiful and something I never heard before. I remember rewinding the walkman for miles and miles to listen to this song over and over. I'm not sure if people do this anymore. (listen to songs over and over) When I mention this to my wife she thinks I'm crazy.
That is exactly what i was doing today around one and half hour going to the job by tram and bus (with little brakes for shangri la and tightrope from elo). I love elo from 2 years ago when i discovered them but this particular album was never my favourite. I dont know how didnt i listen to this song during this 2 years but from 3 day i am listening to it more than 20 times a day. So yeah people are stil doing it. I am 20 btw.
I listen to this on the family tablet and many other ELO songs, but for some reason this song soothes my mind. I can’t imagine how awesome it was to hear these songs on the radio. Jeff Lynn’s songs will live on forever
Have you noticed that they have appeared on the front cover twice? The first time was 10 years previous to this album 'On The Third Day', which has the same font as this album and both start the album with a song containing morse code. Also on the album Time, the ending of Twilight it has the main chords of 10538 Overture which was more or less 10 years earlier. Jeff Lynne is one clever mother lol
Love this super early 80's track from ELO, in my view sadly very underrated. I generally thought that this one was one of their best ever, maybe it simply wasn't commercial enough eh?

It was about 1984 & i went on one of those government schemes & remember that day in audio visual,sat in a small soundproof room & recorded the album tape to tape(Dolby sound) & then used a photo copying machine to print a copy of the album.Ive still got it today & swear you can still smell the "pritt stick after all them years. For me probably Face The Music 1975 was the year ELO went up a notch & on the map to greatness. Secret Messages different to past material but that album is my favourite from all my vinyls 1971 onwards (excluding ZOOM) as ive never heard that album.

This track (and album) will always remind me of autumn and winter. I got the album for Christmas of 1983 and couldn't stop playing it. Still a good album, although it sounded like ELO were running out of ideas around then.
I dreaded this song for a long time I never knew what it was called I almost started to believe for awhile that this wasn't an ELO song I just made it up lol
I really liked how the guitar parts were so much more predominant on this album. I know Jeff also plays piano, drums, bass, and sings, while wearing his producer "Hat", but this album is all about guitars.

In my opinion the hit single off this album is okay and passable but not one of their best tracks This album though is a pop masterpiece. Time and Balance of Power are both fine albums too..
