- "Ved Stanford Brua" is a song originally written and sung by the Norwegian folk singer Harald Foss. It describes in poetic verse the events of the battle of Stamford Bridge in which King Harald Sigurdsson, better known in the English speaking world as King Harald Hardrada of Norway, was defeated by King Harold Godwinson of England and his army on the 25th of September, 1066. Many historians assert that the defeat of the Norsemen at the battle of Stamford Bridge marked the official closure of the Viking Age. This version of the song is the first digital cover to be made.
Harald Foss is a talented musician who has contributed much to the preservation of Norse and Norwegian history, the original version of the song can be found here: • Harald Foss - Stanford...

I wondered what would happen if the Norse won this battle
Amazing cover!

Great work!
Incredible rendition, and faithful to the original. Hope to see many more like this!
Very good rendition. I am sure Harald himself would give it good words.
I used to like this song, but then I took an arrow to the knee and Harold Godwinson stole my sweetroll.

This git is better at singing in Norwegian then I am at speaking norwegian
Brilliant rendition, would love to hear you cover more folk like songs. Depending on what languages you know, Faroese has some very nice ones along with Danish.
Thank you so much for the kind comment there will be more on the way soon!
Very well made, rivaling the original even. I was shocked to discover that I’m only your 251st subscriber.
🇳🇴 ❤🇺🇸
why theres pictures of battle of stiklesad? good rendition btw
It was only partially intentional, but given the fact Harald fought as a 15 year old at the battle and witnessed the defeat of his brother St. Olav it seems a bit foreboding concerning King Harald's same fate at Stamford Bridge - The death of the Norwegian King, Thank you for the kind comment!
Some liberties were definitely taken with the subtitles (the line about Thingmannalid is either VERY ver batim, or mistranslated), but otherwise this is actually better than the original!
"i recognize his clothing/uniform"
THE chicken legend
Hi Jack, I don't know if this is possble, but I seen you done an instrumental of Greensleeves and was wondering if you could do one of this? I really like how it sounds in this, but it don't seem to be Foss's original
This is my own version which I created, I would be happy to send you the instrumental by email
good
Today being an anniversary of the battle of stamford bridge i comment on this video 25th september 2024
