  • Milutin Kostić is a practicing Serbian psychiatrist trained in the tradition of biological psychiatry who has become a new figure in the critical psychiatry movement. Affiliated with the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade, Serbia, he is currently a Fulbright scholar working alongside Lisa Cosgrove in Boston to challenge established norms in psychiatry and psychology.
Kostić utilizes his extensive training and traditional research methods to question the fundamental assumptions of his field. For example, Kostić critiques the flawed premises of genetics research in depression, arguing that it overlooks the heterogeneity of human experience. He uses analogies to illustrate how psychiatry often pathologizes normal human emotions, drawing parallels to how medical conditions are misunderstood when the context is ignored, like trying to treat the lungs alone in a society overrun by air pollution.
We will also discuss his latest study, which emphasizes the benefits of de-medicalizing experiences of depression rather than quickly resorting to diagnoses and subsequent treatments with medication or psychotherapy. His research also sheds light on the effects of biological narratives on patient perspectives, the complexities of drug dependency, and the profound impact of psychiatric diagnoses on individual identity.

People need nutrients; other people; sunlight; being understood. Not synthetic substances.
When I read medical research and articles it feels like total gaslighting is going on. "Medicine" looks at body parts in seclusion, rather than the human body as a whole machine which has parts that work together. When one part has a symptom, it means the entire body has a problem, not just that part.
This guy is getting it. Good for him.

Dr. Abram Hoffer cured many "schizophrenics" with high-dose niacin. How is that possible when "medicine" says it is a life sentence of a genetic "disease?"

      "Medication spellbinding." Dr. Peter Breggin.
Also: there are so many people acting "crazy" today? Why so many familicides? Could it be that they are all taking "meds?" Why is everyone drugged these days? And WANTING to be drugged? If not by prescription, then by street drugs? Why are so many people seemingly hopeless?

Some Mental Health operatives still say that distracted or sad people have a Chemical Imbalance. Jeffrey A. Schaler intervened with - "Show me the Chemical Balance Tests!"

Technically it's kind of true, but the "chemicals" they want to put into humans are not about how we were designed to operate. They're about the love of money, more than anything, which is why "natural health;" "raw milk;" "folk remedies" are all poo-pooed by "science." No money in it.

I appreciate Dr. Kostic's approach to "patients": non-paternalistic and more collaborative.

Psychiatrists are specialist doctors - who continue the medicalization model, instead of having sad people join many happy clapping, stomping and laughing classes. With enduring participation, happiness + physiology are triggered together - which the subconscious mind takes literally!
