So glad you brought up the size and fit! I just bought an SL5 in 56. I’m 5’11.5” I sought out a 56 based on the measurements compared to my old Domane. Trek says I should be on the 58 but it just felt way too stretched. After checking all my measures (inseam, torso, wingspan, etc) I feel like 56 was the right choice but I have opted for a 110mm stem - still not as stretched out as the 58 but helps with a flatter position in the drops.
I’ve just picked up my sl6 pro today, I’m loving it!!! Though, yes the sizes are a bit confusing I’m 5.4” 163cm with 69cm inside leg As per Trek official size calculators should have got a 47 but as per size chart I should have got a 52. In the end I’ve got a size 50 that came with a 800mm stem which I’ve changed straight away with a 900mm and the seat post is a bit too short aswell. I am now waiting for a longer extension... I wonder if if I just could have got size 52?! I have a colnago size 48s with a 100mm stem and a longer sit post... All a bit confusing but very happy about the new bike!!!
Hey Bro, greetings from Silicon Valley USA. Awesome bike and very informative video. Learned a few tips for sure. And please add my vote for a vid showing the Shimano front and rear derailleur setup and adjustments. Be well...
Yah, it's a decal, never thought much about that comment and how silly it was until i posted the video, ha. They would never paint a part of the frame like that when it was assembled.
Drive train set up tutorial video would be really helpful. Never throught to remove front derailleur completely when I bought my bike. Might try it out this weekend. Love your content!
Thanks for the video. i'd like a drivetrain setup video too. The wheel info was very interesting. I was thinking about buying the 105 spec model but that is much heavier at over 9kg which seems really heavy for a road bike. It certainly seems that maintenance is more difficult with that new front arrangement.
My Go go go also same, with speed effect. i’m 170cm tall with 79cm inseam, and i choose 52. it’s really fits me. i’ve checked the weight for 50 and 52, and the difference nearly 100gr
I just bought the SL6 in the same beautiful color and I can confirm my Go go go logo has the blur feature so I believe it’s supposed to be that way! Awesome bike though and I’m looking forward to your second video! I just ordered tubeless tires for mine
I just got the BONTRAGER ALL Weather 2 HARD-CASE LITE 700X28C TLR. Spent all my money on the bike😂 This is my very first road bike. Feel like I got a good starting point. It was my 48th birthday gift from my wife. I’ve always only ridden MTBs till now. I still ride my 2017 Remedy 8 though.
Got the SL7 black and orange... the most gorgeous bike I've seen!!! Question for you - I checked the Bike Manual for this bike and there is something called a "Stop Steer" in the headtube. I noticed that the handlebars will only go so far to the left or right and there is something stopping the bars from hitting the frame, which is a good thing. I'm thinking perhaps this is the function of the Stop Steer". I accidently turned my handlebar a little too much and I heard a "click" and now the handlebar will hit the frame.. not that I wanted this to happen. Do you know if there is a way to correct this, ie. put it in for service to replace the "Stop Steer"???? Thanks.
You may want to throw the wheels in a trueing stand. You’ll know if the cables stretch, gears won’t be smooth or you’ll have clicking, in that case you can give your barrel adjuster a quick turn. If you feel the desire check your bolt torque specs on each bolt.
How the head height is measured in this frame. Is it measured with or without this routing/swivel top cap? what is the height of the head in this frame in cm? How is the seat tube measured? to the center of the top tube or to the end of the mast?
Hi - I can either buy last years SL7 Di2 or the new 2021 version (SL7 Di2). Is there much difference between last years and this? Saves some cash with last years but not the latest I guess? Cool channel mate.
I would usually say buy the older one because bikes often don’t change significantly, but In this case if you plan to own the bike for a long time and can justify the price difference I’d go with the new one, it has a lot of new features worth the upgrade. And hey, thanks for watching!
Nice vid. I have a probably silly question. You changed your casette after you setup your rear derailleur? So aslong as your casette type 11 speed or something stays the same it shouldnt affect the shifiting?

Hello, do u have have any problem with paint chips on the gogogo component? Since it doesn’t have any steer turn lock, when i turn the stem to 90 degrees, the gogogo component hits the bottom paint and it dmg the paint.
Congratulations on your new bike. Bro what bike size should if the size chart states 54cm? should I get the smaller 52 cm? or the higher 56cm? Hope you can reply. Nice detailed video. and also waiting for more contents about 2021 trek emonda. Thanks
Likely a 52cm, but if you don’t know your measurements for seat height as I explain in the video (top of saddle to BB) and reach, then I’d recommend figuring that out. Height gives very little information for fittings, limb length is a better indicator. If you are 5.65ft with long limbs you could be on a bigger frame, getting an expert fit and trying to get on the bike is ideal. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
I’m 5’10 and ride a 2019 Émonda SL6 in a 56 cm but I also have an older one series Madone in a 54 and it still fits me okay. At this height it’s kinda cool cuz you’re flexible between a couple of frame sizes
I’m 178cm. And trek recommends 56cm. But I’m wondering if that’s too big a bike for me. I hear you say on 56 the minimum saddle to bb is 74cm. I actually need 75cm for saddle to BB. From your video. I’m now wondering if I can fit a 54, which is what I have been riding for other makes all these while
Man, nice video, I am going to order this frameset but dont know the size, Im currently using 2016 Emonda SL H2 in 54cm. This frame fits me just perfect using a long seatmast. My height is 180 and inseem 85,7cm, the saddle height is something between 74 and 76, depending on the cranks length, currently using 172.5s. Love using 100-110mm stem which frame size do you think i should order. Thanks man!
Thanks mate! I just had an actual semi pro measure, i actually height 178.5 and inseem is 86cm, so yeah in the trek chard I must use the 56 with a 100mm stem, thanks!!! You really helped me correcting my position
Are you able to pop into a dealer to sit on one? Or better yet do you have access to a bike shot with a fit machine to simulate the measurements. At 6 feet it depends on your limb length also. I’m thinking you be better on a 58. But again get sized first. Especially when spending that much money.
Have you bought the same size of the new Emonda? If so, what height to what? Have you changed anything in the new Emond? I mean the height and length of the sternum.
I’m 5’8 with a 31” inseam. I bought this same sl6 pro in a 52cm. Fits me great. The reach between the 54 and 52 is hardly different. Biggest change is head tube. I went with the 52 as it was closest to my beloved CAAD 10. The Emonda has VERY similar geometry to the CAAD.
@@seanchin I'm almost exactly the same measurements and at least on the Cannondale platform even the 52 felt big. I would suggest a size 50 - but it is a very personal thing.
Hi again, One quick question I may have an opportunity to purchase a last year model new Emonda that has the BB90 bottom bracket. I have read about the problems some owners have with the BB90. But are the BB90 problems common or relatively rare. Just wondering based on your Trek experience.
I never had any issues on my Trek bikes, I’ve had several toad bikes, a couple Boones, Speed concept, Procaliber, etc. Rode them hard and no problems, so from my experience I think they are fine.
I did the same comparing between sl6 rims and sl6-pro rims. I assumed trek would fit the cheapest options. Sl6 rims then are close to 1800 grams, and sl6-pro to 1650 grams. More like a 150 gram advantage for the pro version. That is also the claimed weight difference roughly. That aside, i would still go for the non-pro version. I have good rims here which are same size/weight as the sl-pro ones. And have an upgrade later on.
Just one question. I own a SL 5 and came with all the spacer placed in. Is it possible to remove them keeping the hoses in place? I mean, they are half made to assemble with cables ready, but we are able to take it off without any damage?
@@ToddJones the idea is to tryout the best adjust pior to ask for any cut. With full spacers in the handlebars are comfortable but feels like there is enough room to more drop. Will try it this week. Thanks!
Yah I realized after, but what I can’t find is whether the SL 6 even has Paradigm Comp wheels, I can’t find that anywhere. It shows the SL 6 as having just paradigm wheels on their website, I’d assume they are comps but it doesn’t say.
dont put so many spacers on top of the stem. You can crack steering tube cause metal insert not optimally positioned to the stem. Just cut tube, dont be shy
I’m not sure what you mean by reversing the seat tube. Shorter crank arms and coming further forward can open up the hips, of by open you mean decrease the amount of hip flexion. Also bar night can affect that too.
Seat mast caps have been increased to larger size for 56cm bikes due to customer demand as in a majority of riders of the previous model Emonda in size 56cm myself included required the larger of the two size mast caps . Trek listened and changed accordingly.
Interesting, if you look at their geometry chart it shows the 56 having a min saddle height of 70.5 (add 4cm roughly for the saddle) and the 54 having a max height of 73.5 with saddle. So technically with the way they now spec their mast caps anyone riding a 74cm seat height like myself has to buy a different seat mast.😫
@@ToddJonesHello, unfortunately I also have to change the seatpost, I pedal at about 73 cm: (.... and unfortunately it is an additional cost. I am 1.80 m tall, inseam 84 cm
@@ToddJones Hello!! I'm buying an SL6 Pro and I'm in doubt between size 52 or 54. I'm 173cm tall and 83cm of Inseam. According to Trek's table I opted for size 54 and maybe I need to use a tall mast. Did I make the right choice?
I hear yah, I’m guessing this design has better compliance, the Domane and Madone have the decoupler so they can go with a stiffer seat post. To make it more bearable you can add some carbon gripper between the coupling bits and the seat mast, it at least allows it to move a bit more freely. The worst is when you tighten it down and one side is cocked, leaves the seat twisted.
Re the trek fit chart: i am also taller than 5’11” ie 181.5cm with 76.5 cm saddle height and find the 58 H2 to big. I noticed that a few Trek riders of similar height who were on 56cm emondas went to 58’s when the Madone disc with H1.5 was introduced (Mollema and Pederson) The min saddle rail height with the tall mast is 70.5cm.according to the Trek web site. The height of the Montrose pro saddle is 4.5cm
From your saddle height you could ride both, if you are a long limbed individual you could also ride either. If you stick with the 56 be prepared to condition into a big drop, It’s tough for me to say because I don’t know how long you are in the upper body but I am shorter than average in the arms so that’s why I stick with a 56. I’m also 181cm and my saddle height is a smidge over 74. So if you can try and jump on both at your local bike shop.
Agree on the fit chart. New Domane SL7. I’m about 180 cm ( 5’11” ish ) with an 86 cm inseam ( 34” ). The fit chart says I’m at the high end of the 56 frame and the low end of the 58. The 56 comes with a short seat mast and 172.5 mm crank arms which wouldn’t allow me to set my seat height of ~77 cm. The 58 comes with a tall seat mast and 175 mm cranks which would put me right at the low end of the adjustment. I went with the 56 frame with a tall seat mast and the adjustment is smack in the middle.
@@BikePappy I am planning to do the same, thanks for your comments! I tried the 56cm at the store and found I couldn't get the 77cm with the short mast, and the store swapped it with a long mast. Can't wait to go pick it up!
@@ToddJones I bought the same bike today but in 54cm (m) + radioactive red / trek black colorway and it weighs 19.1 lbs with everything on it (reflectors + shimano 105 pedals). Not sure why there is such a huge difference in weight. I compared it to my 2020 Giant defy which should weigh right around the same and the trek feels so much lighter. Weird. The bike is amazing so not too worried but very odd there is such a discrepancy in weight.
Oh wait I see you weighed it without pedals. But even then thats a huge difference for carbon peddles. Edit: I see the shimano 105s are 285 grams total so that makes more sense now. DISREGARD my previous messages and continue adding toes to your videos.
Do you work in a bike shop or what? how did you bought that bike in box? No bike shop would allow this for warranty purpose. "it need to be build by qualified mechanic" which most bike shop fail to have.
I worked in the bike industry for over 10 years, I have connections 😜. I also help out a bit here and there. So yah you are correct, usually people can’t take the bike home in a box. I do also take the bike in after I’ve built it to get one of the guys to go over it, but I’ve built up lots of bikes in my time.
Probably decals, and I understand they apply them to that part of the frame before it is assembled, so it would not have rubbed even if it was painted. It feels raised from the frame so likely decals, never thought much about it until after I posted the video and had a lot of people commenting.
I'm not sure what's more exciting, your beard or the Bike Porn @1:42 Nice shade and pedicure btw - is your wife jealous? 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Nice to see you back again👍
I love the look of this bike but that cable integration under the stem has to be the worst solution I have seen from any of the top bike manufacturers.
if the sl6 pro's carbons wheels are heavier than the alloy wheels on the sl6 why is the list weight for the sl6 pro 8.03kgs and the listed weight for the sl6 is 8.25kgs (56cm) i thought everything else was the same apart from the wheels ..?
The SL 6 pro wheels are heavier than the paradigm elite alloy wheels, the SL 6 doesn’t have paradigm elite alloy wheels, they have some weird non-modelled paradigm wheels, something similar or below a comp wheel. At least that’s what I gather. I was trying to figure this out too, it’s a mystery.
@@ToddJones what i'm getting at is why is the sl heavier than the sl pro if the cheap sl wheels are lighter this dosent make sense other components must be different ..the cheaper bike is heavier but it has lighter wheels ...!!..??
@@ToddJones The SL6 comes with the Bontrager Paradigm TRL which weight 1,782 gr vs 1,685 gr of the Aeolus Elite. So 97 gram difference. Not worth the $500 in my opinion. I am going with the SL6, and will later upgrade the wheels to lighter carbon wheels anyway. Plus the other difference between SL6 and SL6 Pro is SL6 has 28c tires and SL Pro 25c tires, which saves another few grams. Mistery solved.
Thx for the review. Really useful specially the size chart heads-up. I’m in the process of buying this bike but still have doubts about size between 54 and 56. These are my numbers: Height 179cm, Inseam 82.5cm My current bike has 73cm from the top of the saddle to the center of the BB. Reach (nose of saddle to hoods) 68cm, Reach (saddle rail bolt to hoods) 83cm. I would really appreciate your expert input to get the best out of this purchase
Thanks for those numbers. If you go with the 54 you will have a big drop, so if you can handle that drop you will be fine. I’m thinking 8-10cm unless SL you rise the front end as high as it can go. Otherwise I’d go 56cm and shorter stem, no shame in riding a short stem, better to have the bars close to the frame. You can bump the saddle forwards and just make sure that the shop will swap the seat mast cap because the long one that comes with the 56cm won’t accommodate your saddle height.
@@ToddJones Thanks a lot for your super quick answere, really really useful all your advices. Best wishes for your chanel and looking forward for your upcoming vides !!!
It is a great looking bike, but isn't the Emonda supposed to be Trek's "lightweight" climbing bike? Well past 18 lbs when you get pedals and cages on it. Can't even get that down with wheel upgrade unless you spend a ton of dough (like almost as much as the bike cost). Looking at Trek's claimed weights on the Emonda models even the SLR 7 at $11300 CAD is going to be close to 17 lbs when you add pedals and cages. Oddly if you spend another $5K on top of that you can get to a bike that is just a tick over 15 lbs. Sad really that Trek is only producing top level bikes for those that have $16K to drop on a bike.
I don't think it's possible for the aluminum SL6 wheels to be lighter. the official weight of the SL6 is 8,25 and SL6 PRO is essentially 8 and the wheels are the only difference between these two models.
I should have been more clear, the aluminum paradigms are lighter, but the SL6 does not come with aluminum paradigms, it comes with a non-model aluminum wheels.
@@ToddJones That is not entirely accurate. The SL6 comes with the Bontrager Paradigm TRL which weight 1,782 gr vs 1,685 gr of the Aeolus Elite. So 97 gram difference. Which one> the grey one with the cyclocross image on the front? If so that one is from Twin six clthing. Got it years ago though so I don't think they make it anymore.
Yah, still lighter than my Madone 5 series from 2006. And there are parts that are quite heavy that I will be replacing. I’ll touch on the weight in my next video, it’s definitely a contentious point between most people, especially regarding Trek’s newer bikes.
Land of Bikes but this the Emonda man come on this is supposed to be their superlight weight climbing bike and it’s a porker. Plus unfair to compare the Madone to this bike the Madone is supposed to be heavier.
Land of Bikes not yet hopefully next tuesday. we have giant and trek stores next to each other in Toronto. tcr adv pro1 and emonda sl6 pro on short shopping list.
Nice, I would love to compare this bike to the new tcr. I just got the Revolt Advanced Pro 0, build quality between that and this Emonda is quite different, interested to see what the tcr is like. I’ve had issue with Giant quality in the past - Cadex wheels blowing up. So only time will tell. Let me know what you think of the paint when you see it.
screw disk brakes...too heavy...too much problems...too expensive....why not direct mount brakes? stops about as good...way lighter....disk brakes are/were a fraud....more and more riders realize that now and are going back to rim brakes
Yeah....I dont understand the disc hype....unless you are a pro that ride in wet conditions, or on a route with lots of brake downs or descents, it dont make sense on a road bike. And I dont understand why more bikes dont have the direct mount??? Almost any rim brake bikes (the few thats still made), still using the single bolt rim brakes....why why why??? If the new Giant TCR rim brake version, came with direct mounts, I would have bought that right away....
beauty! tomorrow i will test Emonda SL6 i... cannot sleep.

I’m 5’10 and ride a 2019 Émonda SL6 in a 56 cm but I also have an older one series Madone in a 54 and it still fits me okay. At this height it’s kinda cool cuz you’re flexible between a couple of frame sizes
any superficial scratching near the seat post with your unboxing?
I’m 178cm. And trek recommends 56cm.
But I’m wondering if that’s too big a bike for me. I hear you say on 56 the minimum saddle to bb is 74cm.
I actually need 75cm for saddle to BB.
From your video. I’m now wondering if I can fit a 54, which is what I have been riding for other makes all these while
Did you get the 56? How is it? I’m also 178 cm and planning to get a 56 cm frame size.
@@marcoculala1156 54 for sure. 56 is too big for me
The toes bro..🤣🤣
Great interlude there.
I am 177 cm height and 81cm inseam, which size u think I should buy for?
54
Man, nice video, I am going to order this frameset but dont know the size, Im currently using 2016 Emonda SL H2 in 54cm. This frame fits me just perfect using a long seatmast.
My height is 180 and inseem 85,7cm, the saddle height is something between 74 and 76, depending on the cranks length, currently using 172.5s. Love using 100-110mm stem which frame size do you think i should order. Thanks man!
I responded to you in my other video. But with the lower longer frame you are likely a 56.
Thanks mate! I just had an actual semi pro measure, i actually height 178.5 and inseem is 86cm, so yeah in the trek chard I must use the 56 with a 100mm stem, thanks!!! You really helped me correcting my position
So i'm nearly 6 feet and prefer a very aggressive geometry. Should i go with a 56 or 58? Im so nervous i'm gonna make the wrong decision
What is the price ?
Awesome vid man. I'm 5'7 with a 29" insseam. Based on the new geometry, what frame size would be better for me?
It depends on what your reach is too, likely a 54cm but you are better off checking with your local shop so you can get on one.
@@ToddJones do you think the new Emonda can be stacked up to H2 fit?
@@seanchin I'm almost exactly the same measurements and at least on the Cannondale platform even the 52 felt big. I would suggest a size 50 - but it is a very personal thing.
Nice
Getting mine sl7 etap black and gold color with SRAM
Ah nice choice, I’m curious to see how that one look in person.
@@ToddJones Hi Thank you for the info. Take care
That’s the way I would have gone had the SL non-pro version been available.
Just one question. I own a SL 5 and came with all the spacer placed in. Is it possible to remove them keeping the hoses in place? I mean, they are half made to assemble with cables ready, but we are able to take it off without any damage?
It’s complicated. If you take the spacers out you’ll need to cut the steer tube. I’d take it to your local shop so they can help.
@@ToddJones the idea is to tryout the best adjust pior to ask for any cut. With full spacers in the handlebars are comfortable but feels like there is enough room to more drop. Will try it this week.
Thanks!
Y can’t compare the Aeolus Elite to the Paradigm Elite. You got to compare them to the Paradigm Comp which weighs 1675g but with shallower profile.
Yah I realized after, but what I can’t find is whether the SL 6 even has Paradigm Comp wheels, I can’t find that anywhere. It shows the SL 6 as having just paradigm wheels on their website, I’d assume they are comps but it doesn’t say.
Wonderful ...hope got one
Especialized the best
You bought an 'Especialized'? Let me tell you a nice story about about chinese knock-offs...
Is the area around the emonda logo raw carbon and unpainted?
I’d say it looks that way.
dont put so many spacers on top of the stem. You can crack steering tube cause metal insert not optimally positioned to the stem. Just cut tube, dont be shy
Do you think reversing the seat tube can open up the hips?
Any updates on your upgrades video?
Great vid bro That seatmast and cap is my biggest gripe wth this bike. Cant undesrtand why they did not use the new Domane seatpost
Please make a drivetrain and gear setup movies in details
Can't wait to go pick it up!
hi¡! do you think is ok 58 size for a cyclist of 1.85? or is better 56?
You are right in between sizes. You’ll have to jump on one at your local shop.

So you think they painted the “Go” letters?
Probably decals, and I understand they apply them to that part of the frame before it is assembled, so it would not have rubbed even if it was painted. It feels raised from the frame so likely decals, never thought much about it until after I posted the video and had a lot of people commenting.
I'm not sure what's more exciting, your beard or the Bike Porn @1:42

I love the look of this bike but that cable integration under the stem has to be the worst solution I have seen from any of the top bike manufacturers.
Ashley House if I ever get around to editing my next video you’ll see what a nightmare it is to install the integrated bar.
She's a beautiful thing, enjoy
what new wheels will you get?
It’s a not so surprise, surprise. It will be coming to a video fairly shortly. 😜
if the sl6 pro's carbons wheels are heavier than the alloy wheels on the sl6 why is the list weight for the sl6 pro 8.03kgs and the listed weight for the sl6 is 8.25kgs
(56cm) i thought everything else was the same apart from the wheels ..?
The SL 6 pro wheels are heavier than the paradigm elite alloy wheels, the SL 6 doesn’t have paradigm elite alloy wheels, they have some weird non-modelled paradigm wheels, something similar or below a comp wheel. At least that’s what I gather. I was trying to figure this out too, it’s a mystery.
@@ToddJones what i'm getting at is why is the sl heavier than the sl pro if the cheap sl wheels are lighter this dosent make sense other components must be different ..the cheaper bike is heavier but it has lighter wheels ...!!..??
@@ToddJones by the way as well the gogogo decal on the headset is smeared on my bike like yours so maybe its supposed to be like this
@@ToddJones The SL6 comes with the Bontrager Paradigm TRL which weight 1,782 gr vs 1,685 gr of the Aeolus Elite. Mistery solved.
what is the seatpost diameter?

@@JuanRivera-wg8iv I think you missed the point 🤦♂️
The build process is quite scarry :)
Maybe Bill Gates can tell about those lines on the goose neck lol
Not worth the $500 in my opinion. I am going with the SL6, and will later upgrade the wheels to lighter carbon wheels anyway. 8.1 kg without pedals, bottle cages and computer? Are they serious?
Yah, still lighter than my Madone 5 series from 2006. And there are parts that are quite heavy that I will be replacing. I’ll touch on the weight in my next video, it’s definitely a contentious point between most people, especially regarding Trek’s newer bikes.

screw disk brakes...too heavy...too much problems...too expensive....why not direct mount brakes? stops about as good...way lighter....disk brakes are/were a fraud....more and more riders realize that now and are going back to rim brakes
Disc brakes all the way.
