I do not know what you mean or what for you is "so many". Statistically speaking, Perú is not on Top of US citizens residing there. There are far more North Americans living in other parts of the world than in Perú.

For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

I live between Brazil and Peru. I have an apartment in San Miguel district in Lima and another in Brazil. My husband is a retired American. We live as a middle class persons. We are deciding to finally move to Lima where our money worth more. The health insurance is cheap. Prepare meals with fresch food is really pretty cheap in Peru. On the other hand, Brazil infraestructure is superior than Peru and there are beauty beaches. No doubt. However, all Brazilians taxes are getting high. And all cities are similars. In Peru there are 3 differents regions: beaches and desert (coast), mountains (MachuPichu), and the forrest (jungle). The big problem in Peru is infraestructure. Very limited.

As a peruvian I could add , that if you know where to find them some private health clinics had prices even around 10 dollars to visit a doctor at most specialities. There are even some low clinics for people with actually low incomes, called "Solidarity Hospital" , and those ones could cost around less than 3 dollars. AND , about importing goods, well that depends at the origin of these goods, if you are importing from USA or Europe, most options will be expensive (nowdays) a few years ago this wasn't the case , but if you import from CHINA, is prety much cheap... sometimes even free, cause we have an agreement with them. Maybe all this could change for better next year with hour future first big port called Chancay (from a total of 4) is gonna be the biggest at all Latin America and the future ones are gonna be even bigger, same at the new Airport expansion also comming soon , is gonna be an Airport city .
The service you get for 10 dollars is abysmal. I've been to places like that. I have glaucoma so I have to have my eyes checked regularly. One such clinic where I live, yes it's cheap, but the doctor barely looks in the eyes, there's no examination. What you get is an assistant measuring your eye pressure with the pistol like thing (tonometer?) and that's it. They also ofcourse give you a prescription for eyeglasses, they want to sell you those. They have other computerized equipment but they cost more. Last time I went I paid over 500 soles for the automated exams. The doctor did nothing. One other time in that same place I demanded that they give me a proper examination. Lol, the doctor (another doctor, same clinic) really examined ONE eye and told me everything seems to be ok and that's it. He also videod me and my eye with his phone without asking permission because he had never seen my type of glaucoma...well you won't see it if you don't actually examine the eyes.
Peru used to be a much safer place before the arrival of venezuelan immigrants. It is true that the ones committing crimes are a minority , but a minority of 1.5 million people is a lot of criminals. Peru was not a paradise, but it was much much much safer before 2017. That is the year they started moving to Peru.
As a Peruvian lawyer, i would advice to take things easy in Peru and keep yourself as friendly as possible. Avoid taking unnecessary risks when drinking and going out. Be polite with the police officers. They will do their to treat you well. Alcohol sale is forbidden from 11pm to 5am. But you can order it. There is delivery for anything in Lima.
The imported goods will become much cheaper starting in 2025 because the megaport Chancay is opening in November 2024. This port will serve as the hub for South America’s exports and imports with Asia and Oceania.
Valle sagrado is a great place to visit due to its proximity to many must-visit ruins sides, however, unless you come from a high Mountain place or have lived in other similar areas in Perú, it may not be recommended as your first place in Perú for longer terms.

The beach town you are showing is not Mancora. It is Huanchaco Beach in Trujillo, Peru. Trujillo is also a very nice city. It is the only city with a Country Club outside Lima region in Peru.
Americans beware of the $432 figure - it seems very unrealistically low to me unless you live in an area that most Americans would never want to live in. I’m married to a Peruvian and have visited multiple times, mainly to Lima but have done the usual other trips to Machu Picchu, Arequipa etc. Just take a look online at rental sites - you’re probably going to pay much more than $432 for rent. Food in markets can be quite cheap ….. I’d guess 1/3rd of the price of California. But also be careful because crime has increased dramatically in the last few years ….. lots of immigrants came during COVID and there was no work so some seem to have turned to crime. Five years ago there was some crime but there’s been a big uptick in street robberies, extorsion and kidnappings. They don’t often seem to pick on foreigners but who knows if that could change some time. My wife said yesterday that she was unsure about living in Peru again because of the security situation. So think your choice through, investigate it yourself. One last comment - my impression is that very few Peruvians speak English ……. if you’re in main tourist areas or with wealthier people then some definitely will but few “average” Peruvians - so you may struggle to fit in and manage your life there if you really have no Spanish. People are generally nice and friendly, the food is good, Lima is effectively a desert and so no real rain, the high and low daily temperatures don’t vary too much …… so there’s a lot of positives but don’t go thinking that everything is super cheap ….. at least research it first.

Rent in Lima is only cheap, depending on what district you live in. Buying an apartment is only slightly cheaper than the U.S. in the more upscale districts. Also, getting a rentista visa might be easier to obtain compared to Brasil, but it is in no way easy to get. There are several financial requirements that must be met. And I'm not even including the notoriously byzantine Peruvian bureaucracy. The process will take time and lots of help, especially for foreigners who don't speak Spanish.

I live in Tarapoto, San Martin. I hate it. The town is extremely noisy. Houses in Peru have no sound proofing at all. You could as well try to sleep in the street. Most of the traffic here is motobikes, either 2- or 3-wheeled. They make a lot of noise even in this part that is a small side street. Also the town is full of evangelical churces- Imagine that, open air evangelical church with the sound system of a rock band. It is outrageous. I have to use noise cancelling headphones in my own house because of the churches and the traffic just to not go mad. I'm considering moving to a jungle cabin before I snap. It's also extremely hot. You can still have 30 C at midnight.
There is a VISA RENTISTA for retirement people, and digital nomad VISA this is new will be implemented this year, the law already exist since November 2023

I'.m from Peru and Oakland. Peru has horrible infrastructure, horrible traffic. as far as rent is cheap depending on the district. In Lima you gotta be street smart or you will get robbed and ripped off. trust me!!
Is very expensive country, especially Lima you can't buy an apartment on good area. Like San Isidro or Miraflores for less than $300,000 and the American dollar runs parallel to the soles. You must pay , cars, houses etc in American dollars. Medicare doesn't work in there. The health insurance are over $400.00 per month and if you are over 65 they don't sale to you.think twice before you moved to another country.

I have a feeling the tourist places will be more expensive to purchase after investors from other parts will start to purchase property as investment from China and other countries will do it after APEC meeting, unfortunately. I would rather go to Brasil. It is more advance, better economy than Perú but over all, Brasilians are far more friendly, and not envious, jealous of others or liayers as Peruvians are.

Most of the traffic here is motobikes, either 2- or 3-wheeled. They make a lot of noise even in this part that is a small side street. Also the town is full of evangelical churces- Imagine that, open air evangelical church with the sound system of a rock band. It is outrageous. I have to use noise cancelling headphones in my own house because of the churches and the traffic just to not go mad.

In Peru you need to be street smart, as anywhere in Latin America.
Only people mostly who are attracted to these Latin American countries are likely - mostly Hispanic -- who speak fluent Spanish and are comfortable with those who speak the same language. Americans with English speaking skills only = '''a fish out of water''' - if they are old and ready to retire ! --?-- Old people ready to relax want "comfortable" - not 'frustration' - from not talking or not able to read menus or signs or business's ??? 🤔 Few in Central & S America speak English like many other parts of the world ? -- Even in Malaysia - it's taught in schools - and in the Philippines schools have signs everywhere > 'SPEAK ENGLISH ONLY' ! --- Surely this explains 'why' the immigration numbers aren't higher to some of these countries ? --- Apparently the visa friendly countries who make retirement more affordable also have 'some' advantage. 🤔
It is true that not speaking ANY spanish probably will have a negative effect. However, Spanish is also one of the easiest languages to learn.

I'.m from Peru and Oakland. Peru has horrible infrastructure, horrible traffic. as far as rent is cheap depending on the district. In Lima you gotta be street smart or you will get robbed and ripped off. trust me!!

Is very expensive country, especially Lima you can't buy an apartment on good area. Like San Isidro or Miraflores for less than $300,000 and the American dollar runs parallel to the soles. You must pay , cars, houses etc in American dollars. Medicare doesn't work in there. The health insurance are over $400.00 per month and if you are over 65 they don't sale to you.think twice before you moved to another country.

Who wants to purchase an apartment, RENTED! way cheaper. I have a feeling the tourist places will be more expensive to purchase after investors from other parts will start to purchase property as investment from China and other countries will do it after APEC meeting, unfortunately. As a today 14 february 1 dollar = 3.85 soles. So your facts are wrong buddy. Lima coukd be expensive for peruvians but the rest of countrie is much much cheaper and safetier. Besides the long distances in Lima are another con, but if you choose a neighborhood like San Isidro, Miraflores, Surco youre gonna be fine. Anyway the mos imoortant is what are you looking for? If you want parties, museums, beach, then Lima is your eestjnatiin. If you want a calm live far from big crowds, then putside Lima is the best choice and cheaper in every sense.
