btw the sichuan pepper isnt actually spicy, it just makes your mouth feel like static tv. im sichuanese and sometimes i would go downstairs only for my nose to shrivel into a husk bcs my mom had put a whole bowl of it downstairs
"Untrained novice chained to their toilet" LOL, when I get Kung Pao Chicken I tell them make it a little bit spicy, an area you showed reminds me of St Marks Place in the Lower East Side NYC, cafes line the length of the street both sides but unfortunately it's really nasty now, cafes throw giant bags of garbage on the sidewalk, the bags split open, rotting food, it smells, bugs, rats, NYC won't pick it up, some cafes hire their own garbage people but when their neighbors also don't do so what good is it, it's ashame

I went to Tex-Mex, Topees Pancake house, McD, KFC and Dicos where only the nuggets were unspicy enough for me. LOL. Bakeries were good in China and Vietnam too.
Chandu is a cool city. I traveled there 4 years ago. I love it so much. Young and energetic city, foods, panda, and Avatar mountain and so many things.
“Chuan chuan” literally means skewers. Sorry that you didn’t like Sichuan Pepper. Like you said, there are definitely dishes that uses it in the right amount. Hope you find the ones you like!

Love this city, it has a lot to offer and if you do spend some time here, the surrounding countryside has even more to experience. Have the rivers gone dry too? Yesterday I was looking at Google view. It looked recent with very low water and huge piles of plastic. And yes I otherwise know all about Chengdu. I was loving it there in 2006, 2009 and 2015 for a total 15 weeks, from western Canada. So I rode my bikes all over and some to the outer areas. My stay was in the RR 2/ ZiJing area. The last trip I rode 3/4 of the way from Saigon actually. Austin in China made a big mistake going to Hangzhou, IMO. He never vlogs anymore. The whole world has gone to LEFTY hell... RIP.

Don't forget Chengdu is the city very close to Tibet area...only 3-4 hour of drive, you can enjoy snow mountains, lakes, yarks..

The peoples park is lovely. There was a guy doing karaoke. Also someone playing a musical saw ..it was very interesting .

Chengdu is really a quite comfortable city to spend your leisure time and I plan to move to there in the future for rest of my life.
