I agree on the chains. Doesn’t matter about the length of teeth, as long as both sides are sharp! I think your saw was cutting straight because of the shirt😂 Thanks for the shout Matt👊🏻
One of the best done tutorials especially since too many of the "show and tell" UA-camrs don't use PPE. So I do use the Pferd Chainsharp ( Stihl uses this for their 2in1 ). ONLY for 30 degree Stihl chains. And you're correct that it does take a lot off the steel. BUTT...it works for this non pro cutting 6-8 cords (real ones)/year for firewood with plenty of softwood trail work clearing. Good job.JMNSHO
That’s some great looking oak Matt. I’m glad to see you wearing your ppe. I struggle with it also. Your comments have made me commit to being more diligent about wearing my chaps.
You really got a nice load of oak there buddy. Good tips on chain sharpening. We all learn tips from one another. Everyone has their own way for sharpening. As long as you can end up with a sharp chain, that the common goal. Take care Matt.
I don’t have access to vise that easy to much junk in the way. I use a rotary tool for touch ups and in the field. I grind anytime I hit something or the depth gauge needs to go down. Do probably 10 chains when get grinder out. Your saws always cut good. 👍🏻 keep up the good work.
I agree, the tooth length is not important- sharpness is. Chainsawing is not fine woodworking meant to produce even/flat cuts, it's about removing material as fast as possible. Good video 👍
Glad to see you're leading by example Matt. Wear the PPE! It's like a seat belt.....It only works if you use it. I've seen a lot of people get stitches or worse because they didn't wear chaps, gloves or safety glasses. I've lost some of my hearing cause I didn't wear hearing protection when I was younger.
What angle is faster 25° or 30°? I think ripping chain is like 10° so I assume 30° would be faster. Idc about chain manufacturer settings I want production speed in firewood processing.
I find I can sharpen a 25 degree chain better than a 30. I think a 25 degree chain last longer a 30 degree because it’s easier to sharpen and you don’t have to take as much metal off. As far as speed I feel they are the same or too close to notice.
I see the 462 has 72 cc's. That is a good size. I would say that is the minimum power you would want for those logs because a bigger saw would cut faster.
Rods would be easy to bend in the right curved shape. Then weld them one inside the other until they were strong enough to be a hook for a kant hook. Wire it to a stick of wood or use another type of fastener.
We had lots of cicadas in Hong Kong during the summer and they are really loud I’m glad they are not here in Ireland 🇮🇪 as they would destroy the farmland and crops 😭😨

Hahah something was helping me.

Thank you! If it works for you I wouldn’t change it.
You are right. I also say to gather information and then make your own path in life.
That’s great advice.

Thank you sir and I’m glad I could help

That’s right. Doesn’t matter how you do it as long as you can get it sharp. Thanks for watching!
I got a chain just like that. Cuts great! Nice oak score👍👍
Thank you
Nice video with your own experience 👍🇧🇻
Thank you!

Appreciate the info, will just keep filing to the angle line on the tooth.

Yes I can agree with that.
You should invest in a can't hook. It will make rolling those full-length logs that aren't fully cut through a piece of cake.
Could he buy the hook part and then attach it to a homemade wooden handle?

I actually have a log roller but it’s never close to me lol. They do help tremendously.

I didn’t know they hurt anything? I was always told they are good to the environment.
🎉
