Does rather feel like someone should have been playing the bagpipes for the end. Love the banter and patter between the staff as they go about it. Must have done it a hundred times before and could do it in their sleep. Even solved the "fault" quickly.
@@shahedmc9656 It was a Class 90 as it had a cab at each end whereas a DVT has a single cab. You can also just make out the loco number (90044?) below the driver’s window on the rear cab of the second loco.

@@MrJezza31 yes that's why I'm talking about. They don't have classic "screwdriver" coupler, except for locomotive coupling. Just like the Russian SA3.
The sleeper guards and shunters are all top blokes. Always game for a laugh.

Good on you for making the effort to film this - glad someone did.
Thank you so much!
Same mk3 sleeping cars have great rides in them
When I worked the Caledonian Sleepers from Waverley we had Class 86s,87s&90s also 37s&47s. This video brought back memories.
What a fantastic vlog thanks for taking the time to get out there and film it it was wonderful really enjoyed this thanks
Hooking up the parts of the Caledonian sleeper night train at Carstairs. classic old MK1- MK3 Intercity coaching stock, four foot, 321 clang clack
Nicely covered mate, and thanks for sharing. Mike.
Beautiful video. Greetings from Calabria.
Fantastic video!
sad to see the Mk3s going but the MK5 look amazing!

Thats the trouble it seems to be looks over function with the Mk5
Old intercity coaching stock as the sleeper. Old hooking bars ETC. First attempt did not connect
Suoerb and well done you, a credit to you great work, cheers Nick.
Great clip.
Would love to see similar splitting or joining back in the 80s...
Excellent job sir ! Thank you for catching this historic moment us and sharing it with us !!! :):):)
At 8:17 - Is that the LED tailboard that is usually attached at the rear of the last coach?
I had MK3 stock on sunday 23rd of June from Euston. I was looking forward to the new stock. Must have been an issue with it.
I felt sucked about MK3 Sleeper coaches because it’s the best way to make comfortable room and easy to plug in with.
Such a shame to see them go. In my opinion, the Mk3s are still the best coach on the network...
Fantastic video
Second time, four feet, three two one, clack, both parts hooked
Wish I got a £5 for every time I signalled that move.
Why with the class 90 on it had two of them at the front and not one ?
If I'm not mistaken the 2nd one was actually a driving van trailer (DVT) not a loco.

Would have been a positioning move, instead of running it light engine just tag it onto the sleeper to get it to where it needs to be.
It was probably a stock move . The second 90 was DIT .
the tiltel should say The Final Caledonian Sleeper Mk3 and Mk2 movements at Carstairs.
CLASS156433 you should make a video and title it”TILTEL OF THE MK3 SLEEPERS FINAL RUN”
Sorry to sound stupid but what locos are used on this route now?
I think 92's and Class 73/9 are the regular

Hmm, didn't know they have some sort of automatic couplers, like these on Russian railways.
They don't, they have a buckeye for the physical bit - but they rely on someone connecting the brake and heat pipes.

Coupling needs oil
