Funnily enough, COTS are poisonous, venemous and toxic. Three different modes of delivering a toxin. Toxic if eaten (to some animals). Venemous, as in, can invenimate if spiked. And poisonous, as in, can secrete a poison if harassed. The main toxin in all cases is plancitoxin, a type of saponin, which is a haemolytic (pops red bloods cells), very potent against fish.
