The contract approach is fine. It worked well on East Vineland. And exploiting multiple contracts using only the best set of borrowed gear is also fine. Gets things going. Flax makes linseed, feeding cows, humans and canaries. Different varieties make linen after processing. A fabric production mod for flax straw would be handy.
my go to tractor when starting out a start from scratch is the minneapois moline. great older tractor with a decent amount of hp for a really small price tag. i have one on every game save.
with the community being shafted i would think they would be leary of lending you new equipment so i think the equipment should be either old or used no new equipment no loans and no leases until after 7 jobs done successfully so they know they can trust you and i agree no collectiables
complete the contracts to the end not just to when they say its finished and split the extra with the community 50/50 for 7 times before you can get the total extra money

Use the grain bins that have to have a grain auger to load them
