While I agree that there was a lot that Harry got away with just for being a man, if we use the same argument that people are using with sponge bob and Ariana, Olivia was the one that had a family so she's with the most blame because she was the one that had a relationship to break. I'm pro blaming both parties, like 60/40 if the other person knew about the existing relationship. And that's why Ariana's reaction is so childish, she knew he was married and that he had a new born baby and yet still went with it. Like, a man that's capable of doing that to his wife is not a good guy AT ALL, he sucks. And Ariana isn't any better than him eather.
Her playing a victim is too much. I cant support an artist who is constantly saying "poor me". A real woman, a STRONG woman recognizes her flaws and takes accountability.

Grande's "yes...and?" is that not only is the concept tacky af and is pretty much just about her playing the victim and blaming everyone else rather than taking accountability, it's below mediocre. Fans are up my ass on tiktok saying I don't understand it blah blah blah and I regret to inform u them I understand exactly what she's trying to do and it's uninspired and unoriginal. It's redundant. Beyoncé's Renaissance to Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" miss Grande brings nothing new to the table accept her revealing to everyone that she can not take critism or be told "no." Typical for someone who grew up privileged.

I've never agreed with the messages in some of her biggest songs. "7 Rings" is a gross materialistic-ass anthem, "BUWYGIB" speaks for itself, and this one just goes back to a thing I've noticed she does quite often. Her most arrogant songs always include one verse referring to someone else to make the fans relate/live vicariously through it. "It feels so good to be this young and have this fun and be successful, I'm so successful/And girl, you too", or this one: "Boy, just put your lipstick on and be like, 'Yes, and?'" It's a cheap trick, but it works every single time because her fanbase doesn't seem very... um... discerning
I feel bad for Lilly Jay and Dalton Gomez
It's the fact that at this time, she has hooked up with taken men 8 times (that we know of). And yes, obviously, the men have agency and make the choice. However, there is something sick about only liking taken people 😒. And I think people are just fed up with that, esp since now it was a postpartum mom, and she even met the baby.

Sonically, it’s solid for me, but I tend to like a lot of songs Max Martin has produced regardless of the artist, so that’s not shocking to me. But it is weird to me that she’s boxing in critics in this reductive, outdated way, even to play down her own (alleged) bad behavior. It would be one thing if she was getting picked on for no reason/for just existing, but to try to brush off legit concerns like that speaks volumes about her character.
I’ve ALWAYS had mixed to negative feelings about Ariana as a person despite me also feeling sympathetic for her and really liking some of her albums like Sweetner and Thank you next….
Let’s be real though at this point I think some problems videos are needed on ALOT of popstars now including Ariana and Taylor (it’s like we can’t trust or like almost anybody famous at this point 💀)

As bad as Ariana's behavior is, Ethan deserves way more of the blame here since after all, HE was the one who chose to leave his own wife and child for her. Won't be surprised at all if they break up within the next couple months because Ariana gets bored again and Ethan will have abandoned his family for nothing.
This is why we need more pop artists like Charli XCX and Dua Lipa who don't do shit like this. They always stay away from the controversy focus more on having fun with the music instead of telling someone to cheat on your wife whom you already have a child with!

I agree with every single point you made. Long time embarrassed Ari fan - I’ve always doubted her ethics as a person but she never did anything egregiously wrong that couldn’t be forgiven (Donutgate wasn’t great, though). Still I could separate the art from the artist and she showed growth as a person and an artist from Dangerous Woman to Positions.
I just can’t with the Ethan Slater situation. I know I don’t know her personally, but from the indisputable facts we know about the situation, I can form my judgment. I don’t like “Yes, And?” for more than her callous response to her flippant FU to Lilly Jay.
It’s just not GREAT and IMO not a strong single. Her voice is almost too soft for the message she is sending when she says something as bold as, “Say that shit with your chest” in her breathy head voice. It feels like they’re drowned out by the instrumentals. The lyrics are kind of cringey and it seems hypocritical to censor the “dick” in that line while preaching fearlessness in words.
I don’t have the arrogance to deem this the worst single/song she’s ever released, but IMO it’s not her best and I really hope it’s a one off on her album.

Man, I have watched Ariana go through all seasons of change since being a fan of hers since the only discography under her belt was just the covers she did on UA-cam and Put Your Hearts Up lol. And I agree, her public image and the way she wants to portray herself has regressed almost on fast track. These past 12 months have been so hard to watch from this standpoint. And now, her team are trying to change the narrative by getting Page Six to alter the article about her cheating and her fans are running with it like it's a big HA GOTCHA MOMENT! The cognitive dissonance is fucking real with her die hard stans. Explain the big overlaps with her previous relationships then, not to mention her song bragging about that like you mentioned. And on top of that, in May, Ariana posted a story celebrating 2 years of her marriage with Dalton. Wtf do her team think they've done, exactly? Gone all Men in Black and wiped it clean from our memories? PLEASE this is so desperate of her. She peaked in 2020, I fear. It's all downhill from here...

I’m really taking this whole controversy to heart because my ex did a similar thing to me but instead we didn’t have a baby and he had one with the new girl and they were pregnant within 3 months of moving out. Then I find out he’d been seeing her for some time behind my back. And seeing this sort of thing completely wipes away all my empathy for Ariana with her relationships. She really did take “thank u, next” to a whole new level. And that line in that song that says “[marriage] I only wanna do it once real bad. Gon’ make that shit last.”

1000% agree….I was an Ariana super fan back in 2012 (when i was like 12-13) and then over the years I felt like i started to outgrow her behavior and something just felt icky but i could never really put my finger on it….but it’s all coming together now lmao. At the same time I can recognize how wildly talented she is and it’s honestly just a shame that the talent and the personality don’t match

She was one of my favorite female artists. WAS. I still like her music but now when I hear it, it doesn’t give me that feel good vibe anymore. i'm a fan of a lot of ariana's music, however i just could not get into this single as much as i've tried. kind of shocking, i love house music. i really don't connect with the bridge. it feels too cheese for me. the intro is a bit long as well for what it is. as far as the video, i LOVE the concept of her and the dancers breaking out of this artsy mold, the voguing, the fashion, but really don't like the intro or ending to the video. buwygib was when i started getting an ick feeling as far as the music and her message there. what has happened in their personal lives, we dont know the full truth, but the entire thing makes me uncomfortable as is

Okay after going and listening to the song. It’s got a very Madonna Vogue beat to it which is overdone. I don’t mind the verses. They are kinda neat. But once the chorus comes around there’s no lift and no great hook. Like “yes and. Say it with your chest and” like…. That’s not a great hook.
I'd only heard the song before watching this and was unfamiliar with the controversy/drama... Yeah, that left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't think I can support the song if that is what it's about.

I’m a huge fan of broadway. Wicked was the first show that I ever saw and is one of my all time favorite musicals. I was keeping my fingers crossed for the upcoming movie, but my hope for musical movie adaptations has kinda gone downhill (need I remind you of the big Cat-astrophe). Now I’m concerned that the current drama is going to overshadow the movie. Cynthia Erivo deserved waaayy better.

Alright so, honestly after watching I'm really not taking any of this personally, and this is just Jon's take on the whole situation, which I believe is done in a fair respectful way, and not in a dramatic overbearing way that makes those kinds of videos a chore to watch from other creators. The clickbait-y title certainly shook me and while I certainly don't agree with it, I don't really have a reason to be pressed over it. Yeah it's definitely questionable that she left her husband of 2 years for another married man, but, it sounds to me like neither of these men remained happy in their former relationships. One thing that I also noticed was her lyric about not commenting on her body. A lot of fans have been concerned over the last year about (what looks like) a good amount of weight loss, to the point where she almost looks unhealthy. Most fans are coming from a place of concern for her health and empathy, but she just sluffs it off with the whole "yes and?" attitude which just leaves another bad taste in my mouth. Great video, I definitely felt the same way. I think honestly it would have been better for Ariana to just completely ignore the controversy and not mention it in the song or video - then maybe people could have an easier time either forgetting it or separating the art from the artist. However, by merging the art and the artist here, she has immortalised this wrong-doing of hers. I can't even form full thoughts on the song musically cause I only listened to it once and would just feel icky to listen to it again and give her the streams.

honestly i feel the reason why the song sounds soulless is because Ariana knows that deep down she's wrong. She's very talented and creative. It doesn't make sense that the song sounds this boring unless her whole heart isn't in it. I was going to listen to her music regardless but this song doesn't feel right to listen to it knowing what happened.
