- This was the last song of the evening by Rainbow Girls at the Green Note in Camden on 25 September 2017. They were promoting their new album, American Dream, which is their first as a vocal harmony trio. This is a cover of Crosby Stills and Nash song and can be found on their self titled album from 1969. Rainbow Girls are from left to right, Caitlin Gowdey, Erin Chapin and Vanessa May.
I don't believe any three people will ever be able to duplicate the harmony achieved by Crosby , Stills and Nash. Even they knew they were unique which is why they formed their group to begin with. Not to say Rainbows aren't talented.
That was painfully breathtaking! Some say that we ought not to pick favourites. This song is my favourite CSN song. The Rainbow Girls' cover of it is exceptional. 🌸

Over the years. I've probably heard around forty (or so. including my own) groups cover Helplessly Hoping. I've never heard a better version, including CS&N. The Rainbow Girls treat it sweetly, carefully, and with great respect.
Most folks tend to use somewhat choppy phrasing (me included) to avoid the dangers of drifting off-key at the end of phrases- the Rainbow Girls ain't skeered to go there and draw the beautiful possibilities out. A wonderful group.

They are the ONLY ones who ever captured the soul of the song. Hot damn; they are SO GOOD! Ears will never tire of these sounds.
It is so hard to get the timing right, people tend to squeeze their hockey sticks on it. This girls just sing it about as natural as slaking their thirst on a hot summer evening with a mint julep.

I rarely downgrade songs, but this one got it! It sounds so amateurish! And it wouldn't be so bad, except for all the raving comments.
Best female harmonizing? Sing like angels? NOOOOOO! If you want soaring harmonies, listen to I'm with Her. Or Dixie Chicks/ Courtyard Hounds. These are professionals, singing jaw-droppingly well. Or listen to Foxes and Fossils. They do this song much better. And the girls were 15 when they recorded Suite: Judy Blue Eyes! They were a local band, less professional, yet they have a huge following - and they aren't really a performing band anymore. It's expensive to tour. They get together and record songs for the Net, and to sell. Fans like Graham Nash and Carole King send them emails, thanking them!

There's a lot of pretty cool Helplessly Hoping versions on UA-cam, Foxes and Fossils being a favourite, Brandi Carlisle also with a lively intro, but this is the most relaxed, soulful, and has the most personality.
