The BEST part of this video? My sneaky cameo!
In my first run before my mic died, I call your cameo out! Lol
Jarring stance you made there! :D blue shirt, right? I'll never forget the moment :D
This is by far my favorite sparring session from this channel
Thanks! It was a fun one to make
Very nice rounds, and I love your humbleness, you are not afraid to show your mistakes and admit what you need to work on. Also loved those savate kicks, outside crescent kicks are very underrated, I find them awesome. They give extra angles of attack that people usually don't expect!
This was definitely awesome to watch.
Thank you for sharing ☺️.
I notice the same thing when we do combo drills on our partner where they either don't even come close to hitting the face or they just aim for the gloves like its pad feeding. I usually just put my gloves down and tell them to hit me in the face lol. 1 little critique I would have with just the video, would be to bump up the decibel level of you speaking during the breakdown so it matches the audio levels of the louder parts of the video. Great video though.
10:47 i’m super impressed by that interception
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful footwork, an almost Ali Shuffle!
Great footage and great coaching! 👍
I got into aerobic shape many many years ago. It felt so good, I never wanted to lose that, and I haven't. That has allowed me to train the martial arts for a lifetime. I strongly suggest you do the same. You will be so glad you did. Long distance running is what did it for me.
I hate running.
@@metrolinamartialarts lol! I did too once. I actually got into it because my BP was too high. Running lowered it, and I just stayed at it. Best regards!
@@Docinaplane imma try running. And hate it lol
@@metrolinamartialarts Just take it slow, wear good shoes, run with good form, stay off of concrete.
I like Yoga; basic asanas, repeated for 30 minutes 3x/week. Then, on the weekend, one session where you yoga till you can’t yoga no more. Explosive Burpee’s every other day & the rest is technique drills. Every 16 weeks SAQ, and that does it
You had Muay Thai sweeps as many times as u wanted here great sparring session humble warrior, no ego good stuff !!
Nice work bro 😎
I think you guys are doing great I think Malik was doing really really good with all the extra movements he was doing the gas himself out to get that extra cardio during his sparring and hopefully in an actual fight he won't do a lot of the excess movements and just go in there knock the guy out and move out and you doing pretty good too you were parrying you were coaching him moving around even though the cardio is hard and I get it I'm the same way I need to work on my cardio my kicks are not the same as they used to be when I was younger I have to train more as well and hopefully my kicking will get better cuz I used to take a lot of pride in my it wasn't Taekwondo type of fancy but it still van damage type of Kicking and I was very very proud and my cardio was okay but now it's not so I have to work on it as well it's not easy but just keep practicing and you'll get there as far
Thanks for sharing the work.
Malik has potential to be really good. Good hands, balance and quick twitch muscle. Slick round kicks. Too.
You can see your experience start to show up later. Your Inside leg kicks between Malik’s side steps was done with good timing, definitely off balanced his foundation a few times.
Also the high slant kick and no look check hooks had some effect on Malik.
You already mentioned what you didn’t do, so no need to go there.
Thanks for the watch! Malik has a ton of potential - we're gonna have a great time with his progression!
Greetings from Finland! Always love the excitement and true martial arts spirit you have. I just thought to throw you a weird ask: disabled people in martial arts? I myself have a CP that limits my life, yet recently after 13 years of hard training I reached the 1st dan in ITF Taekwon-Do. Now I "know" the basics and the true training can begin. I have also dabbled in JKD for few years and am Especially loving the kali-escrima. Have a wonderful day!
I used to compete in powerlifting, rugby, and MMA (Not all at once, lol), but developed rheumatoid arthritis. I still train and do martial arts, but definitely have to take it slower than I used to in terms of intensity and training volume. In my opinion, its almost more important for people with disabilities to train in whatever brings them joy, because its thanks to my training that I've been able to maintain strength and health despite being undiagnosed for around four years. On top of that, if I end up in a self defense scenario on a day where my joints are swollen up like balloons I better be damned good and know what I'm doing if I don't want to eat shit.
first secondes of the video and you immitiatly could tell: this is a boxer.
Bro, your counters are AMAZING!!! Totally loved this video. It's one of the best sparring sessions I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot (obviously shitty ones). You got some Matrix, Donnie Yen, Jet Lee shit going on! 😂
Thanks for the kind words
I would add a lead leg side kick to your arsenal. There were several instances when Malik sidestepped to your lead side and was wide open for it. Great video and coaching!
I think that's a good move that I suck at lol 😆
@@metrolinamartialarts the first step is admitting that there is a problem 😁
@@joshuaowens3611 definitely 😆 🤣
@@metrolinamartialarts have you ever done a Superfoot seminar. No one has a better lead leg kick in general than Bill Superfoot Wallace. Also Joe Lewis was famous for his side kick and as you know he was very influential in Kickboxing and Jeet Kune Do. If you have the chance go to Karate College one year. Bill Wallace will be there and Joe Lewis's Students, including Dr. Jerry Beasley one of Joe Lewis's Students who specializes in JKD Kickboxing.
@@killaben85 I have not!
Man, that dude can move!!
That he can!
In sparring alot of JKD goes out of the window. Maliks hands are very good and fast. Almost never drops his hands...
Definitely got to get cardio happening.....you have back situation ? Try a small step or pivot and dip or squat the legs quickly to make punches miss combined with a hand in his face even if it's not a punch
I Def do lol 😆 😂
Were you also in a way trying to work the Philly shell in this session?
A bit 😅
@@metrolinamartialarts Hey man keep at it I say. At 0:14 you coulda landed that right hand straight down the pipe just like Mayweather does while in that stance.
Speaking of which, after analyzing this session further you coulda landed that right quite a few times actually, esp considering the opponent had a habit of keeping his lead hand low.
that guy looked super fast, i have to imagine real life he is even faster; when i spar people sometimes i leave a hand out to gauge speed and timing, secondly i find guys will actually punch into ur hand or guard instead of working around it to get to u.. do u find that to be the case when u spar.
Sometimes - other times they punch me in the face
Great video like it. it like (3D) chess
So was it head kicks you where trying to pull Malik to do?
Also, a lot of circling from both, but was there any directional faints? Trying to cut to the inside or to the outside? I didn't notice any... Legit didn't see it because I am really bad at reading those.
👍
🤙
How many people have told u that u look like ryan renalds? Probly sepelled that wrong but im not a spellologist
Umm I promise nobody has said that.
@@Actias1974 people have actually said that. Deal with it
I love your content bro. Found out about you through watching icy mike
2 Samuel 22:35 KJV
He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
From a king James. Thought u would like that.
You did good! Just don’t look away when they striking you :(
Yeah it was funny I don't even know I do it till I watched this video lol
@@metrolinamartialarts happens! Just need more sparring. When I haven’t sparred in a long time, I do that too.
also i know ur not moving alot; but isnt ur positioning and stance kinda creating opportunities to counter and forcing him to look for or create angles to put shots together cus it seem like he wanted to put things together but was having issues w/dist angles and ur stance or was that just my bias.
Yes, that's why my stance is the way it is
My guess is throw more jabs?
Showing the Body to Head Tyson Special, goodness gracious, showed his back too long though.
Sensie just do planks , good for core plus it’ll help your ju-Jistu
That sounds like hell 😂
@@metrolinamartialarts this guy over here lol
Footwork my man , just dance with a partner and feel the beat then practice
Btw stop starting with kicks
Lead fist then back fist jab then KICK or the snap kick or sort lol that you like to do 😂
I know that kick to but remember you have to go forward with that kick not sideways lol
@@metrolinamartialarts leg raises are good too, and your back won't hurt because you can do them on matt, planks hurt like hell in your back, very bad idea if that's the case.
Karate style leg raises (we called scissors idk how they are called overthere) where you lift both legs up and cross them and then return slowly to the ground and on and on
Close gap
You should focus on basics, and stop doing fancy seminars. First round he was taking it easy, i would too against someone how couldnt fight.
Nice long way of saying I can't fight. 😂
@@metrolinamartialarts the reason i think boxing transforms fighters is because you master basics. Think Bruce Lees saying of mastering one technique over a thousand. If you only allow your self to do straight punches in all your practice and sparring for a month, you will find how much there is to learn there. Mastering different combos of feetwork, types of power, angles and timings.
After first round the two things I notice is he’s not going for the targets you’re giving him (consciously or unconsciously) - it’s like he’s just throwing random sloppy shots to miss on purpose. No real timing or set ups - more reactive and reliant on his natural athleticism. Second, he’s not cutting any good angles or taking initiative. I’ll play the next rounds now and see if I was in line with your thinking.
Edit: word, good coaching man. I’d rather see a cautious and tentative sparrer than the opposite, but there is a time to escalate safely and effectively. You did well at doing so in a controlled environment.
