Most of you guys have not seen most of the movies nominated, but still think that they are not worthy of the nominations they got. The BAFTAS are not forced to nominate what is popular or what the other Awards Shows have nominated. This is a good way to show some recognition to great movies that not a lot of people watch. For example, The Dig is a really amazing movie, you guys should watch it. Good for the BAFTAS for doing something different.
The thing about having a small jury is that they make sure all the members watch the films on longlists. That was one of the rules that each jury member had to see all the films in order to vote. It’s also refreshing to see they didn’t copy and paste other award shows, but I do agree that these don’t reflect what the British industry would have supported in acting or director. Perhaps next year they can have the top 3 or 4 contenders automatically make the nominations with every BAFTA member voting, while the jury should decide the last 3 or 2 spots.
Your reaction when they didn’t say Carey Mulligan is my spirit animal. So proud of the BAFTAs again with the love for Another Round, my favourite movie of last year
I have to say this for best actress. Day has the globe, Mulligan has the critics, would it be funny if Davis takes the sag and McDormand takes the bafta hypothetical of course who would be the front runner
@@ZR38315 those would be the most likely guesses at this point for two reasons, 1 if Mulligan gets Sag it will be Oscar win 2 if McDormand takes Sag and BAFTA the same result. The Sag will be the end result of this race for sure.
Important to note that the acting/directing nominations were voted on by a jury of about 10-12 people OVERALL. So this has virtually no bearing on the Oscars atm.
@@ClassicalMusic2002 I don't care much about clarity personally. We already have the Globes, SAG's, and Critics Choice to help us predict. What I don't like about it is having only 12 people vote doesn't properly represent the interests of the voting body. I'm really worried the Oscars will start doing something similar. Especially since we're on track to have diversity that's proportionally representative at this year's Oscars, and so radical change like this isn't really needed.
@@AndreA-ke2id Have you watched The Dig, Calm with Horses, Another Round? How can you judge if those movies deserve or not the nominations they got if you haven't watched them yet?
Nominations start just after 36:00.
Call me crazy but I actually think Maria Bakalova has a solid chance to win the Oscar now

Nah, we just don't think the BAFTAs are good precursors for the Oscars anymore, I'm guessing most of these movies are great

The Baftas aren't doing anything this year for the Oscars

Are you serious. Most of these nominations are a joke.
@@AndreA-ke2id well they’re not a joke. They’re just not predicting the Oscars. Celebrating the best of British film for once is a good thing

@Jarg the TD fan it would be interesting
Probably Mcdormand or Mulligan would be my guess

Check Mark that’s what I was thinking after Sunday night. The SAG is really the Oscars for acting this year
@@kamryncannon5988 agreed
The best film and screenplay categories are non-jury categories, which is why they are so different from acting and directing.
Clarke Peters for Da Five Bloods? Really? That’s only because he’s an African-American who’s made the UK his residence for many years. So transparent.
Uh, the BAFTAs passed over Delroy Lindo, also in ''Da 5 Bloods.'' Lindo is black and British.
You do know Delroy Lindo is British too but didn't get nominated? Don't bring race into this
The actors category is decided by jurors and Clemency was NOT eligible last year but it's eligible this year!

How on earth?
Just the acting and directing categories did this, to clarify.

No need the Baftas.... It is not even a precursor for the Oscars
No Carey Mulligan, Olivia Colman, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Sacha Baron Cohen in the list?
BAFTA 2021 is doomed.
These noms r crazy...wow...snubbed andra, viola, carey and zendaya, sophia ect. jeez lol
