Absolutely brilliant stuff for learning Spanish. My son is doing Spanish at school and we (me his mummy) are learning it together and we converse together. It is working a treat these series as he's top in his class and I feel he will be at A level standard when taking his GCSE. Because it's latin Spanish there are some parts different from mainstream Spain for example "pen is: una pluma and boligrafico" but we try to learn both. Muchos gracias por tu ayuda.
Hi, we film all our videos in Guanajauto, Guanajuato Mexico. It's the capital city of the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. You're right, it's a beautiful city! Thanks for your comment and for watching our channel. 😊
Is it better to use the subtitles or no? If so which language? I am still very much a beginner but able to read about 80% of the words in Spanish, pausing to look up what I don't know. It takes me maybe 5-20 seconds to read and work out the meaning of the sentence before moving on. If I don't use any subtitles I maybe pick out half of the words but struggle to interpret the meaning before I start forgetting what they said. Also I miss hear a lot of things leading to confusion like when the guy said ''un anillo'' I heard 'una nillo and my brain fell out for a second. Ultimately I want to practice my listening skills since it is FAR below my reading/writing/speaking ability but I'm uncertain if I should just watch this stuff with no subtitles, Spanish subs, or English subs.
Great question. Although lots of learners have the impression that subtitles are helpful, reading diverts a significant part of your attention and brain power. Reading in one language and listening in another may feel useful, but it is difficult to actually acquire language that way. On the other hand, there is research to support same language subtitles. If you feel subtitles are helpful some of the time, that is what we would recommend. In terms of missing things and confusion, that is a natural part of the learning process. It takes lots of exposure, but your listening will improve. The foundation you have in your other skills is going to help a lot!

- I can't translate that sentence properly. The placement of the 'lo" doesn't seem to make sense. at 5:00 "Y lo único que sabemos es que se cortó el pelo." - what does "lo único" mean? As far as I know, "único" is not a verb. I did some digging and it looks like "Lo" can be translated as "the". Am I correct here? The sentences I used above seem to somewhat to make sense in that manner.
Great question! Lo is the neuter Spanish article. It stands in for general things or abstract ideas. The closest English equivalent for the neuter article is “thing” or "part" and it also translates" how" in some structures. Often there isn't a direct translation. In these structures, "lo" goes front of adjectives, like "importante" and "único" in your examples. Lo importante = the important thing. Lo único = the only thing. It is a super common, useful structure for making general statements. A few more examples - 1. Lo difícil de aprender un idioma es la pronunciación. - The hard part of learning a language is the pronunciation. 2. No puedo creer lo hermoso que es. - I can't believe how beautiful it is. 3. Lo peor del viaje era que se perdió mi maleta. - The worst part of the trip was that my suitcase was lost. Hope that helps!
We're glad they're helpful! We publish new videos every Thursday morning, and right now there are new episodes of Season 3 of Buena Gente on Sunday evenings.
Tengo una duda que él dijo que "nada que nos ayude".... Aquí, por qué es "ayude".... It should be "ayuda" porque la verbo "ayudar" will be conjugated to "ayuda" when "it" is used
"Ayude" es el presente del subjuntivo. Hay que usar el subjuntivo en varias estructuras, normalmente después de "que," pero no siempre. En este caso, es porque se refiere a algo que no existe, pero también hay que usarlo (con el verbo en la cláusula dependiente) después de verbos de emoción, duda o influencia (en la cláusula principal). Por ejemplo: Dudo que ella cante bien. Les encanta que tú estés aquí. Queremos que ellos escriban la carta.
"Ayude" is the present subjunctive. You have to use the subjunctive in a variety of structures, usually after "que", but not always. In this case, it's needed because it refers to something that doesn't exist (there's nothing that helps us), but the subjunctive is also used in dependent clauses after verbs of emotion, doubt and influence (those are in the main clause, before the "que" and trigger the subjunctive in the verb in the second clause). For examples, Dudo que ella cante bien. - Dudo is an expression of doubt and there is a change of subject (yo in the main clause to she in the dependent clause), so the second verb (cantar) has to be in the present subjunctive - cante. Les encanta que tú estés aquí. - encantar is a verb of emotion and there is a change of subject in the two clauses, so estar has to be in the subjunctive - estés. Queremos que ellos escriban la carta. - Querer is a verb of influence, there is a change of subject from nosotros to ellos - so escribir has to be in the present subjunctive. - escriban. The subjunctive is a mood, not a tense. It's important and it will come with time, but you will be understood if you don't use it. It's a little hard to learn because it often sounds like an infinitive in English (We want them to write the letter), so you have to become aware of the structures that trigger it, you won't be able to hear it. To form the present subjunctive, take the yo form of the present tense and remove the -o. Then add the opposite endings ("e" for -ar verbs, "a" for -er/-ir verbs). That gives you the yo form of the present subjunctive and from there you can conjugate it. (cantar - yo cante, tú cantes, él cante, nosotros cantemos, ellos canten; salir - salga, salgas, salga, salgamos, salgan. ). There are a few verbs that don't use the yo form of the present tense. Their subjunctive forms are dar-de, ser - sea, estar- este, saber - sepa, ir- vaya, ver - vea, haber - haya There is also a past subjunctive, used in many of the same circumstances after past tense verbs. It has a different conjugation. Hope that helps!
There are Spanish subtitles on all our videos, and English and Spanish on all the seasons of Buena Gente. We made a video in basic Spanish to show how to turn the subtitles on: ua-cam.com/video/n-594Ztjk4w/v-deo.html These are the basics - click on cc to activate the subtitles and then click on settings (the gear icon at the bottom right) and choose the language. You can also open a transcript if that would be helpful. To open the transcript, go to the row below the title and click on the three horizontal dots ... (next to "save", at the far right). There is an option there to open the transcript and it opens on the upper right sidebar. Let us know if you any questions!

(cantar - yo cante, tú cantes, él cante, nosotros cantemos, ellos canten; salir - salga, salgas, salga, salgamos, salgan. ).
There are a few verbs that don't use the yo form of the present tense. Their subjunctive forms are dar-de, ser - sea, estar- este, saber - sepa, ir- vaya, ver - vea, haber - haya
There is also a past subjunctive, used in many of the same circumstances after past tense verbs. It has a different conjugation.
Hope that helps!
@@SpanishPlayground thanks a lot🥰🥰, you mean these kinda words come after que and para que..... If I'm right.
it would be nice if they have the Spanish words too
There are Spanish subtitles on all our videos, and English and Spanish on all the seasons of Buena Gente.
