- Gerudo Valley from The Legend Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the spiciest songs of vgm, so I thought I would bring the heat with a bassoon cover straight from the desert and onto your screen. It was a lot of fun to make, so I hope you enjoy!
🎼 Song downloads, sheet music, and more! 🎵

While out in San Diego for twitchcon, we thought it'd be a great opportunity to finally get some footage for this cover I had been sitting on for awhile. Some friends recommended Desert Tower, about an hour east of the city and right near the Mexican border. Such a beautiful location and they were very kind to let us film there and hop about the rocks. A special thanks to Klinkit for helping with the filming, we had a ton of fun climbing over the rocks and nearly falling a lot and endangering our equipment! Show this to your teacher or band/orchestra director and watch them squirm. The arrangement took a lot of inspiration from the Imani Wind's incredible arrangement of Libertango, and if you're a fan of wind quintets or just a woodwind fan in general you gotta go check them out! I love the sound and style of writing for drumline and I really enjoy incorporating the very formative years in life from in marching bands and DCI into these videos. Frequency-wise, I think drumline and a battalion of bassoons blend really well together to fill out the spectrum. I hope you enjoy and I'll see you around for the next video. But if that wait is too long feel free to follow my on social medias where I'm putting out more and more of my previews and if you want the assets that went into making this, such as sheet music, mp3 and wav downloads, backing tracks, transposed parts, midi, check out my patreon where your support will get you all of that stuff!

made my palms sweat watching you jump around with your bassoon lmao
Same! So glad it didn't slip out of them
*"Hey, listen" intensifies*
Truly underrated channel!
We'll get there one day! Thanks for enjoying :)
Never seen such epic bassoonery. The dedication to filming on location at Gerudo Valley was pretty impressive.
This video is the reason why i learned bassoon
(percussionist here) I find a certain irony that the drum parts are very "marching band" under a bassoon cover XD loving your arrangements!!
i can feel the heat, and it's snowing today 🔥
Dude, the visuals for this are incredible! Looks like you and Klinkit really got a workout with the filming but man does it set a mood! And I love your arrangement, the marching percussion adds so much to complement the fast and active bassoon playing. I checked out the woodwind quintet Libertango arrangement you were inspired by -- it's a blast!
Thanks so much! I really do love the energy of drumlines and this one was my first go at a full section with tenors and all basses. Glad to introduce you to Imani winds, they do such fantastic work.
wow you’ve got real bassoon swag

Absolutely perfect landscape and arranging style for this!!! I adore the way Klinkit angled these and got some action packed Bassoon shots. For your consideration, VGM EMMY
From film master Ro, that's quite the honor. Thanks so much!
This goes beyond a cover! Your arrangements are truly fire!!!
I just discovered this and thought, oh, maybe it's just another artist, but i was surprised to see the quality and talent going into this, and this looks visually amazing.
Just wanted to say my family watches your videos daily and we hope you are doing well and hope to hear more from you someday. Cheers!
Hey, thanks, I truly appreciate it :) I definitely wish I could work faster, but I've been grinding up several videos at once, hopefully with the idea of being able to release things a bit faster with this headstart I'm trying to create for myself. Should be an Animal Crossing video coming out by next weekend, just finishing up the editing on the video, followed by a Fire Emblem wind quintet that's already been recording, just finishing up the edit and mix on the song before we film our parts. But things are going well here :)
Bassoonify Glad to hear more is on the way but ZERO rush :)
You managed to make this song feel fresh again! Thanks so much for that! ^_^
Some of the accompaniment reminds of Piazzolla’s Libertango. I don’t know if this was intentional or not but just thought I would say something. Bassoon is beautiful keep being awesome!
Libertango is strong. I love it!
glad I found this.
1:50 SURPRISE MALAGUEÑA!
ayy!
YOOO I had never thought about Libertango and Gerudo Valley before, but I LOVE that you used the Imani Winds arrangement (unless they took it from somewhere else). Wonderful
Never have I clicked a video title so fast
Awesome. I used this to show my students the sounds of the Bassoon. Such a cool cover
All ready to start buttering it up up
I miss my bassoon so much now. This is amazing!
Damn, your videos keep getting better and better as the years go by! Keep up the good work!
Nice job starting with the Libertango quintet ;)
Loving your channel. Great arrangements
Wow, thanks! I just recently was watching your channel trying to decide which melodica I'd like to buy!
I think this is the most epic bassoon video I have ever seen.
Amazing
WOW what a great, fresh take on the song! The drive at the beginning gives of an Eternal Harvest (ff9) kind of vibe
Yessss I've been waiting for this!!!! I'm glad the filming went well, it looks great! This arrangement is fantastic as well, I love the different styles you incorporated!
Thank you Tera! It was a fun trip out there!
AHH I saw the teaser on Instagram I turned on notifications ready for this video and it's SO GOOD 💛💛💛
Oh thank you so much! This one was a lot of fun to put together!
Nice! I think I’m eventually going to do my own arrangement of this, I love this piece. Well earned sub from me!
Awesome! There's definitely many different ways you can take this song! Thanks :)
You are really an inspiration
Truly a bassoon master ! Love it ❤️
+ the video is cool and fun to watch !
Very kind of you, thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!
This sounds absolute epic !
Amazing visuals and arrangement!
Thank you very much, this was a fun and challenging take on a classic to produce.
Hm. Hmm. I really don't know what to say, except that I just discovered you with this video and that I'm gonna have some sweet dreams thanks to you.
Great video! Sounds awesome
You all are epic. Keep it up!!! Dire dire docks next please! :)
I love how much thought you give to the location you shoot at. It complements it the arrangement and supplements the layers of instrumentation. Wonderful
I can't believe it
Such a hot environment and no water bottle.... He's gone insane
of all instruments to cover Gerudo Valley, Bassoon would not have been my first guess! awesome job, sounds really great!
THIS IS FIRE
I played bassoon in school and was absolute trash at it!!! Part of me really wants to sit back down and give it another go, I love this instrument!!! Excellent cover!!!
this is fantastic!! making me feel very inspired haha
This is truly a masterpiece... A Tri-Force Masterpiece!
Awesome 💯😎❤️🎵
Dude this is awesome
I was just given this for a chamber concert at the end of the month, and I have to play the scary fast part at the beginning. wish me luck lol
I dig the VDL sounds in the background haha.
Thanks! VDL is fun, I'm not much of a percussionist, but I love/miss DCI
@@Bassoonify I'm a percussionist/band director so I feel you. I write in Sibelius and use VDL all the time. I always enjoy your videos. Bravo to you for all the great arrangements and performances!
The Malegueña melody at the one drop near the middle was awesome! I’ve thought of mixing those two songs for a long time.
legendary
Thank you Abney! Maybe if I had remembered the speed run strats you taught me maybe I wouldn't have wound up dangling from that rock face
Excellent work man, this is super enjoyable :)
bruh why does this only have 10 k views
wow I was intrigated by your instrument and wonder what kind of music that would be... after so many cover just thinking at taylor davis... but yours is amazing too !
Epic
Wow, the perfect score, 100% like percentage
piazzolla in the field
Leave or Tango. Better take leave, the tango was just field day the barracks
Coming back to this over a year later to say you slipped Libertango so subtly into this that I didn't notice until like my 10th listen lol
It sounds very beautiful on bassoon, good job :)
You make bassoon look badass!
PS I'm imagining the percussion part as pencils on paper on the music stand ||:XxxXxxXx:|| lol
Finally a music channel all about bassoon I'm a freshman bassoonist and I was wondering if you had some tips to become a better bassoonist. I know it's mainly practice but I thought maybe there was some other tips.
Welcome to the most elite family of instruments. Luckily there's a lot of information on UA-cam and all over the internet of people giving some good info on playing bassoon. A few general tips, you may notice that to make a sound on bassoon, it doesn't take a lot of air (compared to flute or any brass) or even as tight of an embouchure as clarinet or oboe, but it does take well supported air. 80% of well supported air is how you take in the breath. There's a video series called "Breathing Gym" that can help you find how to utilize all parts of your lungs and take in a full, relaxed breath. Fingerings are difficult with bassoon but many books try to simplify it for beginners. I'd say it's better to learn all the standard fingerings than the simplified alternate fingerings (Eb in the middle of staff takes 5 fingers to play, not 3, for example). Learn about flicking/venting once you get to A (top line bass clef). Use a seat strap when you sit, and bring it closer to the front of the chair rather than the back. Rest the weight of the bassoon on your left index finger. Many store bought reeds require editing, so after a few years of playing buy a reed knife and start to learn to edit your reeds (I love the book "Quick Guide to Bassoon Reed Tuning") Everyone plays the bassoon just a little bit different (and every bassoon plays differently), so learning what qualities of a reed suit you and your instrument the best, try a sampler pack from Bocal Majority or something similar and take notes on how each reed works with you and what went into making that reed (shape, hardness, dimensions, type of cane) so that you're more prepared once you start making your own.
Hope that helps! Welcome to the club.
dig it
You’re a ninja
This feels like its from fire emblem
Was that a Piazzolla quote (I think it's Libertango) in the accompaniment at 1:30? Your covers always have plenty of unique and fresh details!
Also, what a location! Loved the cinematography!
(Edit: read the description; so I guess so!)
Ooh, do check out the Imani winds! You'll see a lot of this was very much inspired by their Libertango. This location was outside of San Diego while we were visiting Twitch Con, really close to Mexico. It really stands as a last vista before it the land goes from the coastal area to a desert expanse, it made for a really neat trip out there.
Imani Winds SLAPS I saw them in concert
@@liamm113 That sounds fantastic! I'd love to watch them some day

Hey man, planing on uploading anything during this quarantine? I need your videos
:(
Yeah, there's a few things in the works! I have a Wind Quintet of Life at Garreg Mach from Fire Emblem Three Houses that the last few musicians are finishing recording parts to atm. I'm finishing up recording some parts to my take on Animal Crossing New Horizon's theme. I have an almost finished cover of Kouji Wada's Butterfly from Digimon, but the lack of being able to leave our houses kind of ruins a neat filming idea I had at a rentable location, so we'll see how things are in the near future. I have a lot of works in progress, maybe as I start completing them that may mean a more steadier stream of content? Here's to hoping, I suppose. I've been recording for a lot of other composers though, to include some games, so it's been busy, but yeah, I've been pushing towards finishing some of these covers, hopefully to get stuff up in the coming weeks!
1:29 is that libertango sounding in the background!?!?!?!?
I was right, I guess it...
What do you use to add multiple videos of you playing different parts of the song?
I never followed anyone so fast lol

oh...
Any tips for bassoon players who have been playing for about a year?
I am the biggest fandom Zelda
Biggest fan
What is that at 1:50? I played that sophomore year in marching band, but forget what it's called.
A little Malaguena for spice
@@Bassoonify Ah, nice. I love it.
Also I heard that Libertango at 1:29, that was pretty awesome.
I bet you're a hunting horn main
Insect glaive is my main, but I'm starting to get more attached to Heavy Bow Gun!
Most people would not climb boulders while carrying a bassoon.
But you are not most people.
I was afraid that you could slip, hurt yourself and break the instrument 😨
funny channel name
So basically you’re like Lindsey Sterling, but more of a thirst trap and with a better instrument.
I know your mom because she is my teacher
you're a gym membership away from some serious gains. I know, fucking random thing to say, but i just notice that you're built like exactly the same as i am - not trying to screw with your formula or anything, but I'm betting you could completely hulk out in a short amount of time if you wanted to 🏋
