  • Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, 34% of residents in Montgomery County Maryland faced food insecurity in 2024. In rural Western Montgomery County this is even more challenging. Despite being surrounded by farmland, rural Montgomery County is actually a food desert. There are no major grocery stores, no public transportation, and those facing food insecurity have very limited resources to find assistance.
Further exacerbating the challenge, many larger relief organizations focus their efforts on areas of greater population density, again leaving rural residents with limited access to support.
Buddhist Relief partners with the Little Free Pantry and WUMCO Help to ensure that those in rural parts of the country receive not only the food they need, Buddhist Relief focuses on fresh items not provided by other sources, fresh produce, eggs, milk, cheeses and when possible, meat.
