CR123 batteries will start to dim when getting low on power to let you know to swap out with fresh batteries. The 18650 rechargeable battery just goes out with no warning when there's little to no power left in it. That's why experts recommend the 123's over the 18650's for home protection & self defense.
Thanks for the comparison. Im leaning towards the rail mount 1 mainly for the size and weight savings. 350 lumens is plenty for my use. I may wait till shot show and see if they upgrade the rail mount 1 protac lumens. Light technology is increasing so rapidly, what was good a few years ago is obsolete.
Ive got the 350 lumen one and love it.Cant beat the tape switch setup and the ability to use scout mounts.Could ya shoot some vid of the hlx in darkness.
Thanks for the comparison. Very helpful. I see you have a box from Anderson. What did you get. I bought a full 16" upper with the RF85 metal treatment. Loving it.
Thanks for you feedback man, I'm glad you found the video helpful. I believe that Anderson box is an 80% jig. I was a little disappointed in the material selection for the templets but I was able to get at least one good use out of it. I actually used it to make the lower for my Mk12. Aside from the jig, I have been very impressed with their products. I put their ~$80 light weight barrel in my wife rifle and that thing is light.
Bought the 1000 lumen standalone/handheld HL-X a couple of months back. Now, I bought a rifle and I'm interested in equipping a light onto it. Is it possible to buy just the rail mount and wired tailcap to use it with my existing handheld light, or do I have to buy a whole separate flashlight in order to receive the rail mount/wired tailcap? Thanks in advanced.
The actual weapon light has the same mounting system/footprint as the Surefire Scout series, so you would just need to get a 1” picatinny light mount. I don’t think Streamlight makes a tape switch for the HL-X. To know for sure about the tape switch I’d suggest contacting Streamlight directly to clarify.
I’m not sure 🤔 I can find some for other Protac models but not the HL-X. This is the best thing I could find, but by the time it’s said and done you could probably just buy a new light. arisakadefense.com/products/tailcap-adapter-streamlight-protac-railmount-hl-x
I work 3rd shift aviation service and would like to have this light pull double duty on my belt at work and on my rifle at home, is the rail mount on the light removeable?
So am I correct, when in strobe mode, it's: Momentary button: click: high; double: strobe Constant button: click: high w/o keeping to press; double: strobe w/o keeping to press
You can remove the mound but it won’t have a pocket clip or a way to secure it like that. The mounting surface on the light has some edges too. But yes, it could work.
I think that depends on the size of ones house. If you have large rooms and/or long hallways then I wouldn't see anything wrong with the HL-X. I had the Rail Mount 1 on my SBR until I got HL-X. To be honest, I put the HL-X on my home defense rifle just for kicks and liked it so much that I left it on. My house isn't all that big, but I like having 1000 lumens at the touch of my finger. Throw in there some hunting time and I think the HL-X would fit the bill nicely.
Cool thanks for the reply! I am in a toss up between the rail mount 2 and the hl-x. I like the ability to use the 18650 rechargeable battery in the hl-x
If it's a toss between rail mount 2 and HL-X, then I'd say defiantly go with the HL-X. Price difference isn't much and you'd be getting the ability to use rechargeables like you said.
You’d need a picatinny rail attachment. I have one on my SBR’s KeyMod rail. The light will also fit any Surefire Scout mounts. So if you get a KeyMod Scout mount then it should work fine.
it's not 1000 lumens using aa batteries. only using the cr123 batteries. same for the single battery light. just so you know. it cuts the lumens almost in half.
"I'm a marine, and I can't count without my fingers and I don't have all of them" I didn't even bother to look at his hands, and sure fucking enough he's missing a finger
You sir are very careless.. case in point. Fully exposed knife.. Instead of closing it you lay it open. The point I'm making is if you do the same thing every time you'd avoid "accidents" like the one where you shot your left hand.. just saying..
just picked up two (w Cloud switch-mounts). Did a lot of research and this vid was the final trigger puller.
Thanks!

I have the RM1 considering the HLX. Its hard to beat the value of those with the included pressure switch and hardware.

Thanks man, and very smart about waiting till Shot Show. Streamlight has been stepping up their game so who know's what they'll have this year.
It's 1000 lumens(high mode) - 1.25 hours 60 lumens(low mode) - 23 hours
rahhh devildog!!! nice table top review , will check it out!!! Semper Fi...thanks..
Hay thanks for the site for the scope ring mounts !!! Streamlight on point I currently have on my 6920!!! Thanks!!!😀
I love that light man. I didn't think I was going to, but I'm turning out to be a light junkie.

Sure thing, Ill try and have you something within the next few days.
Love the garage review.

Do you know where you can purchase just the pressure switch for the protac HL-X?

The mount is removable but it’s not meant to be used without the mount.
Seems nice. Wonder how the durability on it is.
Only time will tell. So far it's little brother the RailMount 1 has held up very well.
How big is this compared to a G2X Tactical?
Comes with pants clip an mount screw holes mount screws?
That would be a good idea but nope. It just comes with the rail mount.
So am I correct, when in strobe mode, it's:
Momentary button: click: high; double: strobe
Constant button: click: high w/o keeping to press; double: strobe w/o keeping to press
You got it, correct 👍
@@CalebDowning So it is configurable to a constant strobe?
Can you take the rail mount off and just use it as a flashlight?

Do you think the hl-x is too much light for a home defense sbr that will see some hunting time also?
I think that depends on the size of ones house. If you have large rooms and/or long hallways then I wouldn't see anything wrong with the HL-X. I had the Rail Mount 1 on my SBR until I got HL-X. Awesome. Thanks man. Have a good one!
Can I use this on a KeyMod on my DD M4V11?
You’d need a picatinny rail attachment. I have one on my SBR’s KeyMod rail. The light will also fit any Surefire Scout mounts. So if you get a KeyMod Scout mount then it should work fine.
DD makes a nice scout mount for almost every attachment format.

hehe, it's true man. It's a rough life being a Marine.
