Just bought one and the footswitch pedal. This thing is truly f*cking incredible. Basically hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of pedals and gear and cables all in one amp. Any song or tone you want you can dial in quickly. For a bedroom guitarist who just wants to play a bunch of different songs this thing is perfect. I just dialed in all 4 guitar parts to Smells Like Teen Spirit in 5 mintues and rocked out.

Did you just call Boss' Bluetooth integration, solid??? You can't make this shit up, they should have made it an integral feature of the amp, not a CASH GRAB with that optional extra 5 bucks Bluetooth dongle that will set you back SIXTY BUCKS, wtf man 😂😂😂
Great demo thanks Marty. Literally picked one of these up today. Had a good play around in the store and was sold. Looking forward to spending more time on it to get dialled in. Particularly looking forward to exploring this tone cloud for presets. Agree on the acoustic amp too btw. I was in the market for a new acoustic amp anyway for the same price range as this 100w, so no brainer.
It’s too heavy for a practice amp and small for a gigging amp. It sounds decent, but of course if you are chasing the best tone, you’ll want the “alive” feel of tubes and you’ll find the sound and adjustability of actual pedals is more useful than the panel effects. Now you can tinker with the effect settings in Tone studio, but that requires connecting to your computer, and at that point, why not just use amp sims hooked to a cabinet or speakers.

In 5 minutes I can dial in the tones to any song ever made and play it live in my room. This thing is truly incredible.

A couple features not mentioned by Marty: The headphones is a true stereo headphones, not mono. Also, this can be patched to another amp to make a true stereo amp set-up. Also, this has a great software set-up that you can download from. The last one had some kinks that eventually got worked out (the rep said it was user error-yeah NO!), but I haven't found that yet with this one). GREAT LITTLE AMP! I noticed someone said this was to big for a practice amp. Not true whatsoever. This thing is really light! And with the new added cork boarding on back panel, the sound is freaking incredible!

Great video!!! @ 17:28 you mention the new USB C will work with your cell phone to download patches. I thought you needed the Bluetooth Adapter for another $50 to connect your cell phone. It's certainly easier to connect a cell phone then unhook my laptop and move it next to the amp.
How would this amp sound for a dark jazz tone using a hollow body, going for a Wes or Benson type of thing? It seems like the headroom is there for that and with the right kind of guitar, I'm guessing it will do it.
I had a gen 2 and I liked it but didn’t keep it. I was using it as an amp for when I wanted to practice in the living room but I ended up going with the Spark 40 because it fits in that environment better. They are good amps, I am sure this is a modest improvement over the last gen.

I don’t know. I have a gen 1 50w combo and I love it. I just don’t see anything here that makes me feel the need to upgrade. Sounds great if you haven’t bought one yet, though.
I have the MK1 100 watt . But my next amp will be a Marshall again because I noticed that the patches we make are not usable on a Mk2 or backward compatible. I am still happy with the MK1 because i tread it like a normal amp and i make my own patches .. So actual i say it could be better if the patches where compatible with all the models .. Like I have the MK1 bought on the moment when the Mk2 came few weeks later .. And the MK2 patches dont work on the Mk1 and so it will be with the Ver 3 ..

I have both as well, but the sound is better on the Boss. Different features on both. Boss just makes a far superior product. I have an old ME-70 Boss pedal board and that thing just kicks ass!!
@@darke812 Thanks. I also have the Boss Katana (I like to use it too), but I do think that the way they built that amp-Box was only to cut costs and not for a better sounding amp. It could sound better and have more "punch" to certain sounds. Look inside and you will see how cramped that speaker is inside. Then another problem, WHY is the speaker placed on the SIDE of the amp box and NOT Towards the center of the amp-box. It should be centered. Was this to "create " some sort of "echo" and/or bass resonance? I have no idea, it does not look proper to my eyes. I have no information from BOSS explaining the reason why this was made like this or why it may sound better with the speaker placed on the side. I did some research about amp cabinets and speaker placements and no one is saying good things about this configuration to a speaker inside an amp. I am in the process of building a wooden box with the same measurements as to fit the amp electronics on top but having more space at the bottom and the sides as to place the speaker into the center of the amp Box. This will only make the amp-box of the Boss Katana by 8 to 10 centimeters taller and about 5 centimeters wider. - It will still be a small amp-box but with better speaker placement and I think a much better sound. I will wrap it in Tolex and place the same amp-parts into this new box. But I will not place the "Boss" logo badge over the speaker (as it looks now ) so as to not interfere with any of the sound coming from the speaker. That "Boss" logo-badge can be placed in any other area not covering the speaker.

Here is food for thought, parallel setup with one channel tube and the other solid state. Dry on tube and stereo effects on SS. Output of 200 watts of wet, dry, wet and a cab with 10x12x10. Katana Gen 10.
I just got the 100w mkII will have to return to get this new gen which to my ears sound like a big improvement in tone quality which is not that rich in the mkII. Might even get the gen3 artist version.

great review. I am about to get a Katana, and having a problem deciding on the 50 or 100. The 50 has NO effects loop, the 100 does. Is the 100 too much power for a smaller room/office? What do you think?
Both the 50 and the 100 allow you to step down the power to 0.5w which is what most people stick with for small room playing. The 100w will sound much better at 0.5w than the 50, however.

@@paulmiller780 I don't have one (yet) but I've done extensive research on the subject and literally everyone online is saying the 100 set to 0.5 watts is both fully toned and also quiet enough for room/office settings.
I was just struggling then I found there are two Bluetooth connections to the amp one called midi and one called audio my phone connected to midi automatically via the app but I had to search Bluetooth devices with the phone to find boss audio , then the amp comes up like any other device in UA-cam etc
I tried the boss katana mk2 100 watt in a music store and it dissapointed me a lot. It went to a loud peep sound everytime i didn't play. And the amp didn't have a great distortion for me, there also wasn't any staff in the store that could help me. It made a very negative experience for me trying the boss katana I hope the boss katana gen 3 is better maybe

I have a MkII Head and it sounds a lot better than this, but I did have to dial out a lot of fizz and other unwanted overtones using the Global EQ. So I am guessing Marty just used this one out of the box, and therefore has not got the best from it. But, going on this demo alone, I'm not going to be upgrading my MkII to a Gen 3!

Guys like Marty wouldn’t promote or use the Boss Katana if it wasn’t a great amp. Plus it’s hard to find a bad piece of gear these days, if everyone says it’s good, then it most likely is, even if they are sponsored.
I like how you just assume someone magically is just going to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on gear just to give you an honest, unbiased review because they do this purely for you and not for their own profit. You realize people that review gear are a business. Use your ears and find gear you like. Only take any review with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the review. I bought one but didn’t watch lol send it back. Sounds like the MK2. Close but a transitor yuck sound compared to a tube amp. I’m trying but can’t buy in to this “ sounds like a tube amp”. It sounds like a “ I’m lazy so I’ll play anything than bringing my heavy amp. Lazy equals lame sound.
This is a different demo, that's for sure. Those interested in hearing the new "pushed" model as most people would use it should look elsewhere. Here it is played with gain way up making it sound more like an amp with a RAT in front than an amp at the edge of breakup.

Nice, but I still like my Line-6 Spider IV 75-watts which YOU reviewed so well and did a Demo video. I went out and bought one because of you.

Yes it’s an app. Before tho you had to use your computer to hook it up but now it has blue tooth so you can use the app on your phone

I have the 50 watt and it still sounds great and works well with all my pedals
Loudness, mostly, although i do believe the 100 has a few more effect knobs. I have a 50, and I honestly just keep it in the 25w mode.
Are your pickups Alnico Pros or you swap them? If you swap them, what pickups are those? I love your videos!

Wish you could trade in the MKII for the MKIII. I use a WidiHost and my KatanaLibrarian app to control the MKII.

Nothing against Marty but, jebus, this amp sounds absolutely horrific.
I have a MkII Head and it sounds a lot better than this, but I did have to dial out a lot of fizz and other unwanted overtones using the Global EQ. So I am guessing Marty just used this one out of the box, and therefore has not got the best from it.
But, going on this demo alone, I'm not going to be upgrading my MkII to a Gen 3!

Nothing against Marty . But im getting tired that all big companies now own most youtube influencers. Ad TV anno 2024... honest opinions about gear is hard to find . And are getting destroyed by the yt algoritm...😢

Guys like Marty wouldn’t promote or use the Boss Katana if it wasn’t a great amp. Plus it’s hard to find a bad piece of gear these days, if everyone says it’s good, then it most likely is, even if they are sponsored.
I like how you just assume someone magically is just going to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on gear just to give you an honest, unbiased review because they do this purely for you and not for their own profit. You realize people that review gear are a business. Use your ears and find gear you like. Only take any review with a grain of salt.
@@greysuit17 offcourse i get that. It would do it 2 without hesitation but you can clearly see a big brand like boss just contacts all these influencers pay them and manupilates the viewer. Im certain alot of people have bought the wrong ***t because 12 influencers told them "the search for the best od was over". There should be a watermark on the video saying AD the whole time.. i just hate when these big corp business buy everything up.
Thanks for the review. I bought one but didn’t watch lol send it back. Sounds like the MK2. Close but a transitor yuck sound compared to a tube amp. I’m trying but can’t buy in to this “ sounds like a tube amp”. It sounds like a “ I’m lazy so I’ll play anything than bringing my heavy amp. Lazy equals lame sound.
line 6 catalyst sounds better for cheaper IMO, The Bluetooth function is a win tho.

This is a different demo, that's for sure. Those interested in hearing the new "pushed" model as most people would use it should look elsewhere. Here it is played with gain way up making it sound more like an amp with a RAT in front than an amp at the edge of breakup.
