I was up there not so long ago, lovely peaceful place. Maybe they should put a small perspex roof over it to protect it from the worst of the elements.

Double helix, weighing scales... things are so old here in Ireland the details are starting to fade!

They should put it under roof. Otherwise the carvings will be lost to erosion. It's really beautiful!❤

Actually, the biggist problem for the cross comes from the ground, not the sky... I've seen it multiple times that Americans who come to visit Monasterboice "hüg" the cross for some reason, and in the years you really can see the worn out surfaces.. I mailed OPW a couple of times that this is happening, but unfortionally never heard anything from them. This cross needs to be in a protective greenhouse or something.

@@WhiteBug that sounds like a great idea. I'm American and I don't know why my fellow Americans want to hug the cross, but maybe they could put up a sign about that while waiting for the greenhouse.

What is the owl eyed shape opposite the cross? Christ figure cross over left shoulder ; what's over right shoulder? I'm assuming it's not trip advisor or odlums advert!

Jesus is standing, holding a floriated sceptre in the right hand and the Cross of the Resurrection in the left.

@@WhiteBug floriated sceptre appears in Mesopotamia. They are also seen with mysterious handbag symbol. I have reason to believe this symbol of the bag is actually a bell.

They all worshipped bulls as did we! Cow bell.
The sceptre represents dominion over egypt as does the crook!
Quran is very similar in irish- chorrain. How did Arabic words make it here or there? We didnt have 'q's! Brits brought those over.
      Lanulae couldn't look more Egyptian!
