I think this must have also been published as 'The Kraken Wakes' either before or after 'Out of the Deeps'. I'm a fan of Wyndham, and it's well worth checking out his other books: The Day of the Triffids, The Midwich Cuckoos and The Chrysalids being some of the best imo.
