14:44 It is estabilished earlier in the series that the concubines, aside from being empress candidates, also have unique insight to the going ons in the palace, information they use to the benefit of their respective families/benefactors. Gyokuyou frequently exchanges letters with her family for example. We can safely assume that the new concubine may be receiving privileged information about the Suirei case, even though they tried to keep it under wraps. Or she could be a part of the scheme. This scene feels like misdirection by the author, to make the audience more suspicious. Or even planting for future payoff in a different but related arc.
I love how your biggest shock isn't that "Jinshi" isn't his name, that he's 19 or that Gaoshun is old enough to have grandkids but that Basen is his son 😂
@@normalpeoplelikemeMaomao locked on to the fact that they act similar, but as she prefers to keep herself uninvolved, that's as far as Maomao's epiphany went
Fun fact The resurrection drug Suirei used is a reference to the one Juliet used in the play ‘Romeo and Juliet’, which (as far as I’ve heard) scientists and doctors did mange to figure out how was made.
it's probably the "zombie" drug, that originated in Haiti, supposedly witch doctors would use that on people, bury them, then dig them up and brainwash them into mindless "zombies" to do manual labour, not sure how true that is, but the concoction itself is definitely real
Yeah the only issue is I'm pretty sure the theorized drug that was taken for Romeo and Juliet was a small dosage of nightshade, which wouldn't been a mixture of drugs like how Maomao was descrbing it, though I've seen some mention tetrodotoxin as a possibility too which is whats in pufferfish poison, though this would also have its issues as there is no current antidote for tetrodotoxin beyond expelling it from your body by emptying the stomach or giving them activated charcoal to bind the toxin to it, which either way would leave a lot of stuff behind.
The datura is known for causing comatose state. And it one of the most toxic plants in the world. It makes sense to use it for such a scheme. Now I don’t know if it works in real life.
Fun fact: The drug to resurect people is real and is where the modern myth of zombies come from. The zombie genre started with a movie that was based on a real Voodoo practice where they drug a person making it seems like death only then come and "reviving" them and made them there zombie slaves by drug them even more.

Spoiler warning I just realized something that I missed on my first watch and then reading the books! There is a reason why the emperor never could tell who loulan is when he visits! It is because she has her handmaiden dress like her and pretend to be her so she can sneak out and do sneaky stuff. I never realized the emperor was so perceptive.
My personal pet theory: In the very first episode, they mention a power struggle which is rooted in the need for a male heir. With no male heir, there is a vacancy waiting to be filled. But if Jinshi is actually the emperor's son, not his brother, that makes him the heir. Take him out, and whichever concubine next bears a male child of the emperor wins the power struggle. All it would take is for someone to first notice Jinshi's identity and then have the wherewithal to scheme like Suirei has in her ideal position as a court lady.
0:25 might I point out (based on what happened last ep, that shook her) to MY memory, think this is the FIRST time Licia's said "algorythm GODS" (not "gawds")... but yeah... last one was an eep, for sure..
its loulans father who implemented it. He is equivalent to a prime minister. he wants to kill jinshi as the heir apparent and have loulan become empress.
by the way if jinshi is nineteen now maomao should be 18 right now. also for those that rember that the the births of the emperors brother and son happened 18 years ago, the chinese used to count the years starting at 1 not 0.
Gut feeling, nothing more, I feel like that small scene with the new consort may be important but also a misdirect/red herring. Don't anyone confirm or deny it, please, even with little hints. Just pretend I'm some dude talking out loud to himself in the grocery store about something wildly unrelated to shopping. Which I may or may not be guilty of.
Seaweed came from the south. Regarding Loulan’s role is uncertain similarly we have no characters other than Lakan as mastermind, but if so then why get Maomao involved. Still early in the series so more cool characters to appear.
I know she will turn it into a joke instead of being serious and acknowledge her judgmental opinion but that's how the writing of the show is; misleading and retain a lot of information from us. But I can't wait for her reaction of the last 2/3 episodes
Maomao is so excited to find the Moriarty to her Sherlock

Maomao went supervillain so hard she ripped open her stitches. That's some impressive dedication to evil laughter right there.

So many twists and turns. Worthy of a Sherlock Holmes novel.
Somebody did point out in this episode "Holmes"meets her Moriarty.
I mean, we even have an equivalent to Mycroft.
This is Aoi Yuki's second great detective role l. Remember Victorique from Gosick?

So confirmed at this point; Jinshi and Gyokuo are the same age and Maomao is a year and a half younger

Jinshi really on hrt living the dream
The op is actually sung from Jinshi's pov.
Is about how he love maomao and want to stay with her,
and about how maomao never notice him back
