Same! I bought the book two days ago, finished it, reread it, and couldn't stop. I'm glad that they made DK Arthas a sarcastic, narcissistic jerk in the book like he was in WC3, it made me what love him so much when I played the Scourge campain.

Bolvar Fordragon doesn't sound like himself anymore. Not only the voice, but the words. He's very much become the Lich King. One wonders if he'll be the villain in a future expansion
I'm hoping that the legion has remained in control of the lich king all along, I'm hoping that while we're on argus in 7.3, the new lich king rises and stabs azeroth in the back.
I noticed while hunting for the missing artifact (this one) for my DK, that the heroes that became cursed after Arthas slayed them, have their clothes resemble their Warcraft 3 counterparts, the paladins have colored cloaks, and the Dwarf has a blue uniform with a Hammer and an Axe :D
Nobbel, is it one of your goals to make lore videos for each of the class order hall campaigns? I'd love to see those videos! I know it would take a long time, but it'd be awesome if someday you get them all done and on your channel. Keep up the good work!

The SWORD is ALIVE. The Lich King lives in the Helm of Domination. Frostmourne is a separate entity. Ashbringer isn't sentient and telling paladins to smite everyone like it's the damn Ghost Rider.

safe? maybe powerful? not compared to frostmourne! also these two sword look absolutely hideous not to mention we dks should get a proper runeblade. dks are treated like crap while palas get the real ashbringer. they should also only be able to imbue a sword with ashbringers power instead of getting the real one
I rather would've reforged Forstmourne as a one-handed sword, maybe Frost- + Shadowmourne, than two blades lookin' exactly the same.
I could work with 2 swords if one was a one handed sword looking extremely similiar to Frostmourne and a dagger with a nicely resemblance to Frostmourne, but instead we got one sword and a copy

tbh tho its been almost 10 years, we have hundreds of weapons to tmog our artifacts too, i like the progression of power of the weps and the fact we can tmog them makes it so that its hardly any different

Keep up the good work. All your videos are a great watch, and I thank you very much for the work you put into them.
So when Arthas said "I see only darkness before me" it's because he was never free'd whatsoever when we defeated him, he was always doomed to be a victim of his own weapon and trapped within the blade along with Ner'Zhul, interesting, wonder if this new Bi-Polar Bolvar will truly be an ally or just wants the legion gone so he can then turn on what's left of our world
That moment when the dragon of time could not see the future where we now know that it was because Uther threw him into the maw.

But the text doesn't refer to the blades, the text refers to Ner'zhul/the Lich King and Arthas/us. As in, now WE are one with him and unless we manage to hold control, he will take control.
The second description is just a quote from the LK, I think the first one is more fitting tho, even if I liked his quote in the game. :D

I thought Bolvar was supposed to be good? In this he sounds pretty evil. Wasn't the idea after killing the lich king to put a good guy in control of the scourge and keep it in check?

do you know if you have to get the blades of the fallen prince first in order to find the Memories of Arthas? I pursued the Maw of the damned first and i can't get them to appear. i have seen them in the Beta with my frost DK, but my Blood DK can't find Arthas on the live servers.
B Ledger Not 100% sure, I know that as you level you can get the chance to go back and get the other artifacts. By the time you are 110 you should have every artifact that your class can get.

Don't the weapons have some text or something that you collect that tells you their entire story? I guess with these weapons their history is probably already known, but will you still talk about the other weapons using those things?
That's the plan. In the case of Frostmourne and Ashbringer, the books didn't add much to what I already wrote down .Will be used a lot more in for example Fangs of Ashamane since Ashamane was created for those weapons

What I liked about this quest was how we see the new Lich King slipping so readily into the slippers of the old (true) Lich King. There's no compassion for the souls you need to overcome to get the shards, Bolvar even lauds your ruthlessness where 'the weak showed mercy'. He talks of making you his champion, the 'enforcer of his will'. The Lich King is still destined to be a merciless tyrant and I love it.
Still think Jaina the Lich Queen would be amazing though.
Frostmourne consumes the souls of people it kills ... so why does mal'ganis survive it ? yes i know he is a dreadlord and his soul goes back to twisting nether so you cant kill him but frostmourne is supposed to consume his soul.
Maybe it couldn't because the soul was already bound to the nether.
exactly and you must capture a demon's soul before you can purge/consume it an example is given on azshara when you are questioning the demons.
Or maybe when the Legion created Frostmourne they made sure it couldn't absorb demon souls so it couldn't break their ties to the Nether.
Well considering that Frostmourne was created by the Nath'rezim (Dreadlords) it makes sense that it can't consume Dreadlord Souls. And if I remember correctly, I think I have read that one of the "features" of the blade would be that it could not consume the soul of a Demon, so that Ner'zhul couldn't find a way to get to Kil'jaeden and consume his soul.
It's probably an over look by Blizzard which they decided to ignore.

The first soul claimed by Frostmourne was that of Arthas; and there it remained the entire time, in lockstep with Ner'zhul. I think both their souls were still trapped there even after Tirion shattered the blade, and have remained for the past 6 years. Perhaps this is why Arthas saw only darkness when we killed his body, because his soul was still trapped. Now he and Ner'zhul are in an ever repeating echo of the past. I'm not sure what to make of Lich King Bolvar but there's something very unnerving about this whole story. I suspect our Frost-Knights are going to be operating at the behest of someone else.
The blade was made by the dreadlords, was there ever any confirmation that Arthas was indeed its first victim? If the dreadlords had it before giving it to Arthas, chances are that they had already taken souls from other planets etc.
There was a line in Warcraft 3 I want to say? A line like: "Frostmourne consumes the souls of it's victims and your own was the first to be claimed by it." - Directed at Arthas. Also that is heavily paraphrased. That line was the point of reference for my little theory there.
CryHavoc Ya I remember that part of WC3 but I think that was the first soul that they know of. Do we know how long that blade has been in existence? It could easily have consumed more souls before Arthas took hold of it we only know its story from WC3.
That is true. The idea behind the scourge was to soften Azeroth for the Legion's invasion, and Frostmourne was the tool by which they would achieve it. They knew Arthas would claim it, probably for a very long time, they knew; so leaving it where they did was by design. Whether or not the blade was used by the legion previously is unknown. I think what's implied is that it was created for that express purpose and had not seen any 'action' beforehand.
@@Fairefacts No it wasn't. It was made at the same time as the rest of the Armor they attached Ner'Zhul too. Or at least that was the case before Shadowlands retconned every interesting thing left in the lore
Clever Lich King. Convince the death knights that you're "allies" in exchange for something you were already going to do anyway. A far more convincing approach than a simple threat.

I kinda believe that Bolvar lost himself to the Lich King and merged with him. More or less just another host for the Lich King.
Yeah. This whole "Getting Revenge on Demons" -thing doesn't really fit Bolvar. That's full-on Ner'zhul.
I think it is a deal similar to the end of Diablo 1 where the hero takes Diablo's souls and tries to contain it but time makes Diablo resurface

Yeah kinda like that. The Lich King is a god chained inside a helmet. Created by Nerzuhl and Arthas. I kinda think that its possible that Terenas at the end was maybe an Illusion controlled by the Lich King and Bolvar was planned as emergency plan for the Lich King.

I did question the Lich King's motives and fervent disdain for the Dreadlords and the Legion. Considering the "spirit of Ner'zhul" is still "alive" after you kill off Arthas's spirit, I'd assume that Ner'zhul still remains. However, the fact that they are specifically targeting the dreadlords (outside of strategic purposes) would suggest that Arthas still may be hanging around as well, and his hatred for Mal'ganis and his ilk may remain.

That little part of the O Thanagor/Invincible soundtrack when you claim the blades was a nice touch, kinda sucks that Death Knights can't get the proper Frostmourne but I guess these will have to do.
those visions or art has the previous lich king, I can't help but think he is speaking about Bolvar or a higher power from my experience in running into him in high mountain. it's just about the same phrase that the old gods tell you in uldaur in pre legion.

Now Nobbel I have to ask you some help from you (and actually every reader), I'm (and many other frost DKs) in the quest of finding the hidden artifact appearance for this artifact, and I have to find an item called "The Runes of the Darkening" (got it from wowhead). Well I need someone to help me with this, and I figured you could help me, the item has a yellow text that says that the runes are "Written in an ancient language that no living soul remembers, yet somehow the words leap to your tongue, yearning to be read." knowing this, can you give me any suggestion on what they could be related to? Like zone or type of characters (aside from DKs)? All I've gathered is that it could be linked to the vrykul as they are those who taught the Scourge the way to use runes, or maybe Tichondrius has something to do with it, as he appeared as Tichondrius the Darkener in the Broken Shore and the runes are called runes of the Darkening.
I'd appreciate any help, thank you.

Even if they had the same powers (Bolvar hasn't done anything besides communicating with the undead as far as has been revealed), Bolvar has no armor and no weapon.

It wouldn't make sense lore wise to give frost dks Frostmourne since Sylvanas owns one of the shards. They could have made the blades look more like Frostmourne though.

Retribution paladins. My paladin quests as prot instead of ret because it is so much easier. Ret sucks. You should be complaining why you cant reforge the legendary axe from icc with the shards.
I don't get all the criticisms frost receives dps wise I main it and I've always topped the dps when there's multiple targets and still got consistent numbers on single targets in my mythics. Besides even if it is inferior that should mean blizzard will buff the spec so I don't see why people should let dps charts stop them playing what I feel an incredibly fun class spec

Woop!! Been wanting this. Rolled a dk recently because of this story. I'm so excited.
What makes me very curious how things go with the death knight campaign is that during the special interactions with Arthas while you wield the blades, Arthas does say you won't be free. Is the soul of the lich king trying to convince you to rebel against Bolivar and let the scourge be unleashed, or is Bolivar no longer in control and really is trying to discreetly take the Death Knights under his control. Only time will tell I guess.

Hey Nobbel! Do you look at the artifact research (in the class order halls) before you tell the story of the artifacts? Because if you are not then I think you should. It usually tells some very interesting lore like...

How Ulthalesh, the Deadwind Harvester was forged from Mardum to capture the very few demons that didn't want to side with Sargeras after he freed them.
Or how...
The Scepter of Sargeras was forged by Sargeras (after the War of the Ancients) so he could take revenge for loosing the war.
Frost OP. Everyone talkin about how powerful UH is well my friends, Sindragosa would kill all the ghouls with enough mastery and obliteration talent provides an amazing burst - 320k damage untill 6m damage. It goes down to 170 after a few millions but they, you're dead so..
My theory: Arthas never took contol, since the whole book happened in his head it is possible that Ner'zhul corrupted his memories, couse if Arthas tried to fight Ner'zhul i belive that both Anub'arak(cause of his hatred of Ner'zhul) and Kel'thuzad(cause of the friendship he created with Arthas) would have helped him, so he needed to make him think he was in control, while the truth was that Ner'zhuls whispers became his only thoughts, His helm is called Helm of domination for a reason, and he has done the same to Bolvar, that also explains why Bolvar Lich King acts like Arthas, it is because it's not Bolvar in control anymore.
So did Bolvar succumb to the darkness of Ner'zhul/Lich King? He talks with real disdain about the Light while he was one of the most formidable and noble warriors.
So there was really enough material, despite shadowmourne?
Shadowmourne didn't use shards from Frostmourne. However, when you finish Shadowmourne you get a quest to kill Arthas after which you'll get to bring one shard to Sylvanas.

***** When you have the quest, Arthas drops multiple special boe items that you can eitther deliver yourself for some unique rewards, or sell for an insane amount of gold on the auction house. One of those items is for Sylvanas, so if you're alliance, just sell it.

Any ideas of the hidden appearance for these weapons? They are called Dark Runeblade, the item you get for them is called 'Runes of the Darkening'. Its got some interesting tooltip text. But no player has obtained them yet, that we know of. I'm sure the answer and location to these are in the lore somewhere. Please help nobbel!

This quest line makes it seem like the New Lich King is just Ner'zhul, and that Bolvar Fordragon isn't doing a good job of controlling the Lich King. If Bolvar was the driving force behind this new Lich king I don't think he'd be so merciless and hell-bent on demon killing.
One small question could Frostmourne devour the soul of a nathrezim or did Mal'Ganis return to the twisting nether ?

Could you please do Syntch of Elune next. I read the lore behind it, but i'm a bit confused, how this artefact jumps from Duskwood to Northrend to Gilneas to Karazhan.

Maybe the entity known as "the Lich King" is neither Arthas, Bolvar... or Ner'zhul. Maybe "the Lick King" was somebody else - the original wielder of the Lich King powers... or the powers granted by Kil'Jaden that developed their own consciousness and came to life.
I think this theory is not entirely crazy, because few things hint that this might be the case:
1) The original Lich King was said to be Ner'zhul... but was he? Ner'zhul was originally a shaman of the Horde, who was a semi-evil character. He wanted prosperity for the Horde (or just the orc nation back then), even if other races had to suffer... but he had severe doubts that attacking the Draenai would be a good idea. And once he discovered it was actually an evil plot made by demons, he didn't want to participate any longer. He even tried to work against it, but it was too late. Then he only wanted to save his people and move them to another world, since Draenor was destroyed. But yeah, in the books, it was stated that just before the final portal opened, Ner'zhul started to be arrogant, egoistic and stopped caring for others, only caring for his own power... but that felt like a rather forced retcon if you ask me.
The point is... ever since he became the Lich King... he never really manifested any of his personality traits, never manifested any of his past allegiances. Never really differentiated between the Horde and Alliance. As if he himself was controlled by an evil spirit. When the Lich King defected from the Burning Legion, he never showed any opinion on the Horde, never wanted vengeance against anyone... never displayed any personal value or trait that would create the illusion that his personality or memories had anything to do with Ner'zhul. Unlike Arthas and Illidan (and Garrosh too) for example, as their past lives and personalities played a major part in their character development, even after their "breaking point". It appears to me as if Ner'zhul had his mind corrupted by this other entity, which made him perform all those actions and have all those plans. If it was really Ner'zhul who was in charge, wouldn't he show some personality of his own? Instead of just acting as if was was simply corrupted by "power"?
2) In fiction, it is a common trope that if somebody is mind controlled, mind swapped, possessed or something like that, he changes his voice to the voice of the person being now in control. And the voice of the Lich King is different from both voice of Arthas and voice of Ner'zhul. And what's more - after Tirion places the crown upon Bolvar's head, Bolvar's voice changes to that of the previous Lich King too. And now, during this quest, we can hear the Lich King being completely cold, merciless and possibly having his own sinister plans. That's quite unlike Bolvar. If Arthas is dead, you might think it's the Ner'zhul controlling Bolvar now... but what about his voice? I think that if Ner'zhul was really so powerful, he wouldn't lost his control over the Lich King in the first place. And he wouldn't be now here telling us that his plans were ruined. I think it's "the Lich King" that is the real person speaking to us in that deep echoey voice.
3) You might think that this theory is crazy, because that would mean that the Lich King's mind is ridiculously overcrowded. You have Ner'zhul, young Arthas, old Arthas, Bolvar... and now the "real" Lich King all inside one body. But you know, that's to be expected if we are talking about an entity that feeds on souls and traps them inside after their death. And I think it actually makes more sense if the "real" Lich King is neither of these people with names, because that would mean that they always keep competing for control... and each time a new competitor is captured, he is added to the bunch and bother Lich King's mind some more. To me, that seems unlikely, as "the Lich King" appears to be very consistent with his demeanor and methods. He appears to always behave the same way, no matter if it's Ner'zhul, Arthas or Bolvar.
I think it even makes more sense this way. The "real" Lich King is a separate entity that is inseparable from the Lich King powers, and is always the one in charge. It corrupts all the souls who think they can control those powers, and makes them think that it's their own desires they fulfill once they get those powers. But in fact, it's always only "the Lich King".
Because Ner'zhul said fuck all of that during Beyond the Dark Portal.
He initially wanted to try and lead them to a new world, but when the alliance came to draenor and started fucking everything up and his agents going to Dalaran failed to retreive the eye, he finally just sad fuck it, I don't care anymore, it's all about me from here on out.
His torture from the demons after that simply re-enforced that goal.

Mal'Ganis really should have reached final death, struck down by Frostmourne in the hands of Arthas. 'Soul devouring blade'. Even with demons' nature being tied to the Nether, even if you argue a demon has no true soul; Frostmourne should have gobbled up whatever essence there was of Emmy-G with room for seconds.
Frost may not have the same numbers as UH when it comes to single target, however, Frost does have better cleave damage and keeps up greatly in the AoE department as well, also, it's funnier to play than UH, of course I love all three specs as Death Knight is my main, but I would say I prefer Frost over UH, though, I do like Blood the most, it's just too fun to tank.
A good UH build does stupid Cleave though. The one that makes popping festering wounds cleave, the Plague damage cleaves, not to mention the AoE. It's not a shitton, but it does crazy cleave.
Dang, this is so amazing compared to the Shaman's storyline. For the doomhammer you had to do some generic quests for the stonemother because Thrall dropping his hammer. And instead of standing on top of ICC we were in some random cave that was invaded by Legion trashmobs.

Sandro Guzelj True, but it doesn't matter. Ashbringer has shattered Frostmourne before and it would do so again. The lore is our only guideline.

the language regarding whether the Ebon Blade/player are either allies or subjects shifts so frequently, even just during this video, I can only assume that there is more a respect of the Ebon Blade for the power of the Lich King if the Ebon Blade does believe they are allies, Darion says "So the Lich King chose you to be his hand," followed up by "We are not bound to this new Lich King" these statements don't gel with the current belief of Darion... then at the end where the Lich King marks the "player" as the "enforcer of his will," it seems vague, very murky territory
Also, Arthas using frost powers like the razorice makes no sense in that scenario, he was still wielding powers of the light prior to taking up Frostmourne, guess it was just for dramatic effect

I find it conspicuous how much our new Lich King has retained the motives of Ner'zhul. The way he still fights against the legion, going through underhanded and downright evil means to do so. The way the echoes in the broken isles almost seem to be _warning_ you of "him." Almost as if you never really left "his" control.
For now this is just baseless speculation but _man_ the death knight story has me curious.

soulkutu Illidan says otherwise during the DH starting area. He claims like with powerful demons, his soul also returns to the Nether to reform. As is the DH player's, if they chose to sacrifice themselves for a quest.
Demons have souls, but when they are defeated they just return to the Nether to reform. As for a logical explanation as to why Frostmourne doesn't steal Demon Souls probably because it was forged by Demons as a weapon to steal Mortal Souls. Other then that I don't think its explained in any other way.
Well, in any case, now it can apparently claim demon souls as well.
"Soon, they (your weapons) shall feed upon the souls of my enemies!"

If I'm not mistaken, then he should be the (more or less official) racial leader for the orcs, and I know enough about him to know he deserves more attention.
