Now that is a TRUCK, I wish they never stopped making them so soon, don't see any around SW Pennsylvania, why did I buy one when I was younger, bummer :-) Hold on to that Power Wagon you have a great classic :-)

Thank you, Mike. Actually ironic that you haven't seen one, yet. They are generally more rare in the southern states (where humidity and rust are prominent). However, there was a great deal of work put into this truck. It has been in my family since the 1960's, and there are no future signs that it will go -- so no worries.

+Michael Fisher They stopped making them so they could concentrate on making trucks that last 10 years.

@snillocl If you think thats low, i saw a 91 dodge d250 with a cummins and it had a 7.11:1 rear axle. It was used in the military for towing airplanes

If Dodge would bring these back into production, they would "fly" off the showroom floors😎

~ Beautiful work on this, Chance! I love it that it hasn't been bastardized with idiotic things like high back bucket seats or some hideous gaudy paint job.

@D13fledermause "Power steering for sissies" haha not when you've been 4x4-ing for 10 hours straight it ain't ...I don't know how old you are but I tend to find the older I get the more I appreciate things designed for sissies like power steering, bucket seats, air conditioning :P These old trucks just run and run and run and they were beautiful and had tons of workmanship and engineering (for that time) built into them. They really are works of art compared to assembly line vehicles of today

Love the mention of driving in the uk . Driving lessons over here teach you to keep your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel (like a clock face) and feed the wheel thru your hands.
    Its definatly NOT safer.

Beautiful old ride, love the early Power Wagons to death! They just needed power steering :P Love Stacy Davids Sgt Rock, dying to build my own version of that monster ...but streetable and without the machine guns.

@cooperautosales no, it's not a stock color. originally, this truck was green (it was the dark, bell telephone green, i think).
Anyways, my uncle started the project and was going to paint it tan and brown, but once i got it, i just made it tan and black... just because many of the parts were already tan.

Around 1:08, i put the transmission into neutral and coasted down the hill.
At 1:16, you can see and here me rev up the engine and drop it into gear.
Thanks, the colors took a lot of work, and we were (as all are) super nervous how they could come out

@dalekrueger yep. I did for all of this December because our family didn't have an extra car, yet. I still have it, and people at school get mad at me, now, because I drive a Jeep Wrangler. However, I'll start taking it around again when the weather warms up. December was miserable. I can deal with no radio, Power steering, and a nonsynchronized, but the lack of heater almost drove me to insanity

+wysoft I think those power wagons weighed like 4 tons, that's a lot of weight for a wheezy old flathead six.

At 38 miles an hour in a dodge. They were built in America during a time cars were built right. I am pretty sure that the other car you hit will be totaled.

i'm not quite sure but i didn't saw you doing "double clutching" when shifting...why? as far as i know your New Process transmission are not sinchromesh.
BTW: nice truck with nice color scheme.

    • @tenaxxband
      @tenaxxband 6 років тому

if he's double clutching it's BECAUSE the trans. in a non synchromesh trans, i.e. all spur gears. so you need to double clutch in order to avoid gear clash. if it were a synchromesh trans it would have helical gears, except 1st (compound low) and therefore wouldn't need the double clutching in order to allow the geartrain to slow enough for the gears to mesh.
