This concept applies to a lot more than just finances.
Students who tie their self worth to their school grades often procrastinate on revising, and tell everyone "I hardly even studied for this exam" before taking it.
If they don't try, then at least they have a scapegoat for doing bad, as appose to trying and potentially still failing.

I love the storytelling you to in your videos Vincent! To answer your question, yes, I've failed to reach a goal. Using self-compassion and learning from it to try again is an important aspect of our lives. I agree with Jamie, these concepts apply broadly especially to students who are stuck in a fixed mindset tying self worth to grades.

Mindset will allow a more joyful and prosperous life. I also have codependent behaviors too. I go to support groups that are free and helping me to change my behavior. I find reparenting yourself with positive encouragement is so freeing.

“You only live once” is the mantra that keeps oneself working in perpetual cycles and not getting anywhere. Self pity is the mentality that keeps you competing with the proverbial Joneses. You deserve the best because you work hard. Right? Financial discipline is fundamental in a financial plan. You have to keep one step ahead of all the forces that conspire to keep you in the hamster’s wheel.

I just experienced this in the last 3 days or so. Basically I just built up a ton of stress in my head about not able to pay my credit card bill. The truth is that I'm not even in debt! I put money from University into an index fund when I was 18. I used some of it for investments that haven't really paid of yet, but they're far from failures - I once got offered 800 buck a night to work with this equipment, and hired people with me who loved the job. I also got one of the best deal on it you can imagine. I stressed out big time about it, then realized I only had to return two items I didn't really needed and call one person asking for my money back for a lost packaging, and do my minimum payment. I was super-stressed. "What if the guy don't want to to give it back?" "What if the other return get lost?" Well not only did he gave back the money on the 28 but it was processed to my card in due time for the 29 (even if it doesn't appear on your statement for another 30 days or so). I may be struggling with my rent as well but I can cover up a missing payment easily. I think that, well because my dad got parents who were directly affected by the war, he's always on edge regarding money, even if it's been 5 years after his retirement and both my parents are doing great and they have the house paid and rent money in. We just had a great diner with smoked salmon and good wine. It makes me sad how badly they treat themselves about it in the first place when they're doing incredibly well :(
