    Tee, you got this!! This was so relatable. I used to do payday loans all the time to make it to the next paycheck. You are not alone! Your story is just like a lot of others. Thank you for sharing.
    It's so much more than hearing about others' struggles and debt because everyone falls short sometimes. It takes so much to recognize it and ask for help and want to change. We get to hear about how people, just like us, found a way out through people like Jen!
    Jen, you should definitely do follow ups with the people you help, I would love to know how they are and if they take your advice!

      I totally understand how you feel I’m 61 and my husband is 65 and he wants to retire and we just can’t afford it yet because of my stupidity and credit card debt, and we have no house payment but we do need a $30,000 repair that needs done on our home that we can not afford because we r to old to keep putting ourselves in debt so I agree get yourself on track now because you are still young enough please ❤

    This is the first year we have had a 1000 $ emergency fund. Since Jan 1 we have had a washer die, refrigerator die, and our garage door just failed! Each one was about 3 months apart. I used the emergency fund each time and built it back up before the next. If we didn’t have it. We would still be paying for each one, total was 3000$. Please get your emergency refund and keep it separated. My husband says “ man we can’t catch a break… I said to him… who needs to catch a break when you can swing that emergency fund bat those issues!

    • @sarahschreffler5407
      @sarahschreffler5407 9 днів тому +1

      I get a lot of that mail that is offering loans and advertises REALLY nice interest rates -- but the names are totally unknown to me and so I don't trust them even fi I could consolidate my debt to a lower interest rate and I've been showing them to my teenagers to warn them NOT to take out a loan sent to them in a envelope like this and they've been wondering "Why not? Isn't 9% interest better than 20-something?" And I've just said "There's always a catch. I can't see it from here. But I don't trust this. They don't send these offers to you for YOUR good, but theirs -- now I have something else to warn them of. Make sure the payment they are paying 1) is applied correctly to their loan (I had student loan payments back in the day that were being applied to future payments instead of to drop principal) and 2) Will actually pay off the loan eventually.

    • @shawnda8317
      @shawnda8317 5 днів тому

      I just calculated my student loan payment using the site she used, and it says that I would never pay it off with the payment they assigned. Now I'm even questioning the validity of those loans 🤔

    • @sarahschreffler5407
      @sarahschreffler5407 5 днів тому

      @@shawnda8317 Are you on income driven repayments? If so I think part of the deal may be a "If you make payments on time X years, we'll forgive the rest at the end" (Which has a uncertainty of its own.) I know back when I had student Loans (late 90s), I had a hard time getting visibility on if my overpayments were actually being applied to principal and not to future payments. I was not getting receipts that made this clear and when I asked for records, they dragged their feet and when I finally got it, it'd be like a year out of date. I finally paid it off with a personal loan at my credit union and then paid that personal loan off -- which I could see everry payment in detail through my online account.

    This was a great breakdown video. I’m always shocked at how many people don’t budget or run the numbers to see if they can actually afford something. I’ve been working with my teen daughters to show them that they can afford anything but NOT everything. Life is about trade offs. I tell them when it comes to fancy cars we only know 2 things. Either that have a huge payment and insurance every month that they will have to work for 7 years on average to pay off or they are $60,000+ poorer because they paid cash. 🤷🏽‍♀️. I bought a used Honda CRV for $20,000. I put $5,000 down got a side hustle and paid it off in 14 months. I HATE car payments. 😒

    Tee & Hubs....you got this. It will be very uncomfortable for a while but you will come out the other side so successful.
    My recommendation is to create a spreadsheet and put all your pay dates and bills in there in date order. This way you have a visual and can easily see the amounts available to throw at those debts. This is all I use. I get lost in paper and having a spreadsheet that I can play around with helps me mentally.

    This was a great video. So many people get caught up in these predatory loans either because they have bad credit or do not have a budget in place. Trust me I know, I was one of them. It took time and sacrifice. And if you are willing to make changes and NOT "keep up with the Joneses", you will be on a better financial path. Tee..Jen has provided you with some great solutions but honestly, it is up to you and your partner to decide if you are sick and tired and being sick and tired. It will take some time and you will feel as if you are missing out, but you are not. Currently what you are missing out on is an amazing, stress-free future. Remember, these changes are temporary. I am a widow with 2 children. My daughter just graduated college, and my son is a junior in college. My car insurance increased even though we all have good driving records. When I called our agent, I found out it actually saved money by removing my children from my car insurance and having them get their own individual policies. I am also guilty of wanting to continue to support my kids. As a baby-step to increase their independence, and help me with separating my sense of obligation to them, I told them I would pay half of their insurance cost for now with the goal to have them take it over completely in a year or two. Hard to believe this is a significant savings with 3 individual policies versus all 3 of us on one policy.

    25/50 coverage is greatly underinsured. This is not saving money- this is taking an extreme risk that can ruin your financial future. If you own a home, you need at least 100/300 and should always carry matching uninsured motorists. You can raise your deductibles and not have roadside to save but you don’t want that low of liability.

I am living in europe in the Netherlands and we don't have here a lot of cc ore loans for cars. Now here is leasing a big up come but it is not good either. What i see is that people want a big expensive car for the status. I hope that you can say for your selfs your husband and you that other things as happiness and that you can live your live in peace without the struggle financialy. This story and video inspired me to do some car insurance shopping, and Man, oh Man! I am happy to confirm I just saved over $860 for a 6-month policy, with the exact same coverage! That means, if all goes well (God willing) I will save over $1,600 in 2025 on car insurance! (Which I can now set aside toward my deductible and car maintenance - that has never been possible before!) And my next bill isn’t due until mid-December, so I can put money aside for it and pay in full. That has also never happened in my life! Never have I been able to afford to pay off a 6-month car insurance policy. That is outrageously cool! You guys!!! Do yourselves a favor and just go shop around! Take the time and save the dime! ❤⚓️🙏🏻 I’m crying a little. I can actually see light at the end of the tunnel.

      Your comment made ME cry a little! 😂
      That’s awesome!!! It really is just a matter of checking! Sometimes, it may be for nothing but SOMETIMES- this happens!!!
      For me - keeping the same coverage still saved me but not quite that much.
      So since my situation has changed - I lowered coverage.
      I don’t need that high coverage on this car. I was still acting as if I had a loan on it- I don’t! I’m so glad I checked it again. Every 6 months, check! It’s worth it!
