Rameswaram is significant for many Hindus as a pilgrimage to Varanasi is considered to be incomplete without a pilgrimage to Rameswaram. It is also said that The Shivling present at Rameshwaram temple was brought here by Ravana from Kailash Parbat. And it was worshipped by Lord Rama before rescuing Sita from Lanka. The town along with the Ramanathaswamy temple is one of the holiest Hindu Char Dham (four divine sites) sites comprising Badrinath, Puri and Dwarka.Though the origins are not clearly known, the Advaita school of Hinduism established by Sankaracharya, attributes the origin of Char Dham to the seer. The four monasteries are located across the four corners of India and their attendant temples are Badrinath Temple at Badrinath in the North, Jagannath Temple at Puri in the East, Dwarakadheesh Temple at Dwarka in the West and Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram in the South. Though ideologically the temples are divided between the sects of Hinduism, namely Saivism and Vaishnavism, the Char Dham pilgrimage is an all Hindu affair. The journey across the four cardinal points in India is considered sacred by Hindus who aspire to visit these temples once in their lifetime.
Pilgrims have to buy General ticket and VIP ticket for a meagre INR 50 and INR 200 for Mani darshan in Rameshwaram Temple. It is advisable to choose the tickets depending on the rush at the time of visit.
Rameshwaram 22 wells Bath Timings
7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Daily.
Daily 150 tickets released for online Booking. Reporting Place: Near Temple East Main Gate Entrance. Duration: 40 mins - 120 mins. Depends on the Crowd. Sat, Sun, Public Holidays and Festival days will be crowded.
Ticket Cost: Rs.25/ person
Guide Charges: Rs.150 - Rs.200. He will be guiding devotees on the bathing order. With Guide, One full bucket will be poured on the devotee. Without Guide, the bucket will be shared with other devotees. Devotees not allowed with wet clothes so dress change required after bathing. One must take but in Agni Theertham before taking bath in 22 wells.
