Yes, you can cut every single frond but make sure it is the right time of year. Generally not during the growing season. In Florida I normally do first week of January. Three months later it looks beautiful. If you want you can leave the top couple of rows on the plant as this will look good as well. You can also trim Palmetto's like this as well. They come back wonderfully in a few months.
Hi richard, thank you for the great video. My husband and I have been growing sago palms for nearly 30 years now. We have eight of them in our yard and we love them. Weird thing is all of a sudden we have some of our segos producing extra cones. One of them grew four cones from its Center and the other one grew about 8:00 with a few of them fused together. Strangest thing I've ever seen. Not sure what to think and wondering if you can help out on that. 2 years ago we had another one do a weird morph thing and it is growing kind of Haywire in every which way direction.
Why can’t the seller tell us at purchase?? Or even better, just give us an instruction sheet? 🙏🙏🙏 THANK YOU for helping me. Now I know how to cut it back. Does a female SAGO require a different method of care? Does this plant need special attention in cold weather? YOU ARE A SPECIAL HELP. 👍👏🏻👏🏻⭐️🤗
I've been trimming mine like this yearly but this time it has not recovered (no new beaches have grown in). Now the center flower thing seems to have died as well. Is it game over?
I have three sago palms and there growing very well in a Irish climate 😍 one of them has a bit of discolouration in the prong leaves what will have to be done to help it?
Robert, I have the same issue with mine. They are in full sun 5 of them .. I guess they dont like to be in full sun. I fertilize mine and water them often ,cuss mine are in a sandy environment too and they haven't turn yellowish any more. I did noticed that when sago palms are in shady area they do have that nice dark green look on them....Good Luck.
How might one distinguish a male Sago from Female ?? and is there different treatment ? why does some seem to sprout fromms quickly and others do not ???
Loved the vid. Thanks, I think I need to be more aggressive with trimming my fronds. Excellent communications. Thanks. I'm near Memphis, TN, have outdoor Sagos, that come inside for January. Peace to ya'll.
Yikes, I didn't realize you could trim it back so much; I've been trimming mine from the bottom only. Your camera person could back up a bit to show more of the plant :)
I did this and trimmed it all a couple months ago, both my male and female. Female came back great, but male not producing any fronds on top. Any advice
"I dont want to have you just run in, cut everything and go". Is it just me? Should I trim my crepemyrtle like this while I'm out there? Is it preserved just like you "trimmed" it four years ago?
They’re new fronds, mine sends up new fronds every two years. There is absolutely no reason to cut all the fronds off like this guy did, cutting the dead ones from the bottom is all that’s needed to keep it looking nice. In nature the dead ones would fall off anyway.
We leave the cone alone and then break it off later when it is ready and just snaps off. By then the plant has grown so many new fronds that the cone isn't at the top.
You're very good, mate. However, with all respect, please ask your cameraperson to focus on what you are doing - your hands and tools - as opposed to filming you face and missing the action.
Please keep the camera on the plant while you work instead of always on the person that's doing the trimming. I could not see too well what you were doing. Didn't get to see the plant before you started working on it.
I trim all the leaves off a few months ago and I don't see any growing back the only thing that came out was the pineapple looking thing but no leaves what do I do, I wonder if it needs any type of fertilizer what do you recommend
I have several sago palms with the large yellow "thing" in the middle but never have seen one trimmed with just that left.......what is the thought behind that...it looks a little weird
I love the compassion! I’m new to this. Thank you for the video.
How is it going to achieve photosynthesis if you take all of the leaves off? Shouldn’t you have left a few on? Thank you in advance.

GREAT video! Thank you for educating me.
Thank you! Never knew there existed a Male and female variety.

Hello, what kind of a process takes place after male cone is formed? When do new leaves open?

I do not want to cut mine back. It looks too good. Wonder how long it takes to grow back
When will the new fronds come out?
What fertilizer can I use for smaller sago palms?
What time of year is this?
How might one distinguish a male Sago from Female ?? and is there different treatment ? why does some seem to sprout fromms quickly and others do not ???

If you cut off all the greenery... does the plant get the alleged energy to "send up" via a government subsidy , or do you use deionized crystals ?
well that just looks butchered! Why would you trim your Sago this way???
I did this and trimmed it all a couple months ago, both my male and female. Female came back great, but male not producing any fronds on top. Any advice
Very Helpful! thanks!
This should be called “How not to trim a male Sago Palm”.
cutting them back hard makes them flush out.
Can I stop a male sago from splitting once it starts?? I have 2 cones starting up but only want the one???
"I dont want to have you just run in, cut everything and go". Is it just me? Should I trim my crepemyrtle like this while I'm out there? Is it preserved just like you "trimmed" it four years ago?
Mine has two blooms on top, is that normal?
I just moved to the south and bought a sago Palm. So what do I feed it, care for it and make sure no bugs?? Thanks for videos
😁😁😁😁
how do you know when sago is male since babies
I have a sago palm and I noticed it's growing long green stems is that nature?

@@kevintango6567 thank you for responding,I thought something else was happening lol
How long does it take to grow branches back. My Gardner just took mine all the way down and now worried I won’t see leaves any time soon.
chad paris I’m in San Diego CA and mine seems to produce 3 to 4 rings of leaves per year.
Why did you not mention how to cut off the male flower?
Will the cone fall off or bloom?
My sego has a double cone
Mine also, I've been asking if it's normal, with none giving me information!
What happens to the flower?
How to prune a cycad female flower
We leave the cone alone and then break it off later when it is ready and just snaps off. By then the plant has grown so many new fronds that the cone isn't at the top.
Cut from the top? New to me.
Thank you so much!
i was worried about the seeds in the center, i did not know what to do.
On my sago I leave the green leaves and cut the yellow seed pod off and in 30 days a new sprout comes up
😀😀
Oh, glad to hear this. I castrated mine too because I didn’t know what it was! I get new layer of green branches every August.

If you’ve never trimmed your plant it would be helpful to have a better view of how he is trimming it. Thanks.
That big yellow thing will turn into what??
I trim all the leaves off a few months ago and I don't see any growing back the only thing that came out was the pineapple looking thing but no leaves what do I do, I wonder if it needs any type of fertilizer what do you recommend
latinmoni23 That was my fear, what happened with your plant?
sago or cycad palm?
You fucked it mate, congratulations
Are these plants poisonous?
yes. These trees are very poisonous
Keep dogs away from any clippings
When do you do this?
How poisonous is the sago palm?
I have several sago palms with the large yellow "thing" in the middle but never have seen one trimmed with just that left.......what is the thought behind that...it looks a little weird
Cut off every single frond?
What’s that pineapple looking thing?
How long a con develop my plant is 15 year
❤
What is that yellow sprout in the middle?
Why?
🌴🌴🌴
If you cut all my leaves off of my sago you might as well throw it in the trash.
Mow blow go!! Haha.
beautiful
Looks more like a massacre than a trim. This action will slow down growth besides making the tree less attractive.
Your not suppose to trim the top like he did. Cycad society will tell you tht
Bad camera guy
r u mad ???
cycad
Yikes!
